I just have this feeling that the Jets will have no mercy on the Pats this weekend. I'm not calling it a win for the Jets as I still think the Pats can compete without Brady... But with the bad blood between these two teams, and if the Jets get up early, they are going to run up the score without mercy. Expect big things out of Jets O.

Disagree...The Jets came into this season Pre-Favre as a team that wanted to build it's lines, run the ball and play good defense...

I don't think Mangini is wavering much from that Favre or not. Especially at the start of the season with 1/3 of the starting roster still learning the systems.

If the Jets do get a lead I would expect Thomas Jones to get a good work load though.

I'm takin the Bills in the East.

But unrelentlessly running up the score, I'm all for it. I have Cotch in my starting line-up.

I am benching Favre in two leagues, one for Cutler and one for Eli Vs St. Louis. I expect 300 yards and 3 TDs from Eli (probably 2 ints as well)

This "great" Jets team barely beat a 1-15 (should have been 0-16) Miami team last week. Calm down on the Jets hype :D
1) Miami is worlds better2) Mangini is getting killed in NY for shutting down the offense in the 2nd half3) 1/3 of the starting roster is new and still grasping the systems.4) Heat index was 100+But, yeah, if you want to just look at the outcome that's fair. I think we saw flashes of what the Jets can be but, like the Giants last year or many teams - The Jets need to build as the season goes on, cut down mistakes and implement more and more of both systems while getting used to each other.I think overhyping the Jets can go overboard right now but, I don't think that Miami game means much other than a division opponent on the road and a "W" in 100+ heat and Miami is back to being competitve.Pointing to Miami being 1-15 is as meaningless as overhyping the Jets IMO.

Thanks for letting us know. Back to the topic of the Jets running up the score. I really don't think they could even if they wanted too. My guess the game is a battle. Expect a high dosage of Maroney and Morris and safe play calling by NE-dinks and dunks with som screens mixed in. Pats a la 2002-2003.Final ScorePats 23 (moss and maroney reach pay dirt with 2 gotkowski fgs)Jets 17 (coles and jones get in and a fg)

Shocking.I do expect the Jets to get to Casell at times though with a few sacks and INT's.I think the Jets play it close as well - try to run the ball and unleash the new defense - I think they hope that with Jenkins in the middle they can shut down the running game and force Cassel to beat them..... Hopefully put up a few scores and put the onus squarly on the new QB.

I'm there brother! While I don't share your enthusiastic prediction, he is the better start. Man, STL sucks.Mangini is going to do what he thinks is best to win the game.

Favre will do this: 'Whatever that last play was.....same play'. :lmao:

Since when does brady play D ..??

Do you really think that the turnover prone Favre will be able to "run up the score" against the Defensive scheme of a Belichick team..??

Favre will probably throw more INT's than td's this week...and even if he does not , there certaintly will not be any scoring at will.

Cudos for the bold prediction , but sometimes when you stick your neck out it gets cut off.... we will see though.

I would not be surprised one bit if the Pats come out four wide because everyone expects them to pound the ball. Also, one area where Cassel can hurt the Jets is with his legs. He has good mobility and if the Pats spread them out it will give him some space. IMO the key to this game will be the QB play on both sides (gee, that's a reach). Cassel's questions are obvious. For the Jets does Favre play smart, mistake-free football or does he make some of those headscratching throws he's no stranger to. He's still new to the offense and the Patriot D will be a great test as to how he fits into the Jet offense. There's a solid chance that this game will be decided on turnovers and I think it's pretty easy to see scenarios where either QB has a tough day and a bad decision could mean the difference between a W or an L.

Do you really think that the turnover prone Favre will be able to "run up the score" against the Defensive scheme of a Belichick team..?? Sure, why not. Crazier things have happened in the NFL. From what I saw in Miami, the Jets run D didn't look so bad. Stop the run and put pressure on Cassel to execute. If the Jets D stops the Pats O, I don't see why they'd take it easy and continue to pound the ball. Favre needs to learn the offense and what better way than on the job training?

When is the last time any NFL team has been merciful regarding its opponent?

Also, the Jets offense plays against NE's defense. If you think Cassel will completely crumble under the pressure of being the starter, you may want to think twice.

Nobody has any idea how Cassel will respond, including you. The guy hasn't started a meaningful game since high school.

I expect Cotchery to do well because they will have their best corner on him and he can beat their best corner...who is that again? However, Favre will still have to deal with guys like Vrabel, Mayo, Harrison...the Pats D is still one of the best in the league and I think they got substantially better up front with Mayo. However, their secondary is notably weaker w/o Samuels. Therefore, start Cotch, temper expectations for everyone else...

You mean the Asante Samueless NE defense? That defense?
NE's defense (like many other 3-4's) doesn't need great play from their secondary to be effective. They take a lot of the burden off of the DB's, by putting pressure on the QB with their pass rush.

UGH, this thread is the epitome of what MoP's diatribe was about in his Shark Pool thread. Anyway...

First, to those that think the Jets/Phins game was indicative of how the Jets will be this year...you're wrong, plain and simple. This was a good team pre-Favre. Last year the O-line was destroyed. It's healthy now, and improved. The D was solid last year, and better this year. They are also relatively young on that side of the ball and will continue to mature and I expect them to be one of the better NFL units by the end of the year. Indeed, I'm a Jets fan, but that being said I feel a little bit qualified to speak on their behalf. I'm not in the locker room, but talent-wise, they are very good.

With regard to this weekend's game. I'm confused. Why, just because Cassell is the QB, does everyone assume the Pats are going to run run run? Belicheck will have Cassell ready. This team still scares the crap out of me. Cassell is no Brady, but I think he'll be good enough that their passing stats will still be top tier in the AFC. Defensively I think the Jets will move the ball on them. Actually, I think it'll be a pretty high scoring affair. But even with the Jets solid D I don't think we'll keep the Pats O in check for 4 quarters. I think we'll bottle up the middle and make Cassell beat us. And frankly, i think he can.

As a homer I think the Jets win, but not by much and I sure ain't betting on this game.

One last note on the Phins of last year. While their record sucked, keep in mind that Brown was a beast until getting hurt. I'm just sayin'.
