Oak RB w/ Gradowski:Update Bush "starting" vs CIN (1 Viewer)

Thinking about picking Michael Bush off the waiver wire (over guys like d ward s morris, mewelde fwiw) as he is fresh off a nice 119 yard game (with 60 yd run fwiw). Thought it was weird that a guy in the top 40 rbs this week, isn't even among the top 250/70 rbs going forward. He seems to have been the most prolific of the hoard of backs they have in Oak. Add to that that Gradowski takes over. while he's not sexy like a 1st round pick, this guy has a bit of flutie/gannon/ in him where the offensive numbers HAVE to go up (without the Jamarcus picks/drive killing decisions).

Haven't followed the oakland rb situation much all year. As I've loved fargas from his days at Michigan (yes MI, played 2 years there before USC) and he always has been an unsung runner. But Bushg seem to do the most with his opportunities, and whomever is the back should get tons of dump yards.

Edit to add that RB40 is vs Cincinatis tight defense. That # could be a lot higher this week absent that.

I don't know that things will improve with Gradowski manning the ship. He is not an NFL quarterback either from what I've seen. If only Jeff Garcia had stayed these guys would have some value...

This is admittedly as much to keep other backs from teams that Just lost rbs ( a lot this last 2 weeks) But consider it a lottery ticket. dropped r brown so we'll see.

But Bush gets GL carries (when the raiders get there) curious how the :goodposting: 's see it playing out.

Your thread is a good one. I was hoping to maybe start a thread to discuss Bush after waivers tonight. I am glad I was still able to pick him back up.

There are a few things you should know. Michael only ran 14 times, but busted off a 60 yarder and had 5 straight runs at one point. Then he asked for a breather. Once they put in Fargas, the drive stalled and the next drive, they went back to the JaMarcus Russel to DHB bad pass to bad hands experiment. So conditioning may be an issue. He's got to want to be a bully for the ball.

I believe that coach Cable understands the error, and is committed to having a competent gameplan that takes out the garbage from the playcalling. With Bruce Gradkowski in at quarterback, they finally have a capable game manager that can make play action passes effectively. The Raiders will need to pound the ball and dink and dunk because Gradkowski has a weak arm. But the inside joke is that what difference is it that you have a big armed QB that can't hit the target downfield? Now, defensive coordinators will have much more to have to consider when they plan thier schemes.

The Raiders line is much better, as it is now healthier than earlier in the season. They only gave up 2 sacks the last game, and even those could have been avoided. This team can compete, and has the playmakers in Bush, Schilens, and Miller. All they need to do is announce the benching of DHB, and I'll really feel better about the starting lineup.

Benching JaMarcus and DHB (I wish) are decisions that are based on accountability. It doesn't matter where you were drafted, or how much you make. If you aren't ready to perform on Sunday, and let down the other 52 guys that are busting their tail, then you need to ride the pine. The Raiders season is lost. But unless Cable makes them respectable down the stretch, he knows he's losing his job. I think he rolls with the best players and lets the chips fall where they may. What does he have to lose?

The Raiders schedule does look rough till you get to week 16 vs Cleveland. But if they get a head of steam going, Bush just may be the "key" to many people's fantasy season.

That particular drive may have stalled, but Fargas's overall stats last Sunday (4.1 YPC and a TD) were solid, and the team still wants to see what McFadden has to offer. But no matter who is in the backfield, I think their chances of being productive are much higher with Gradkowski under center. I just hope they pick one horse and ride him.

Coach Tom Cable revealed Friday that Bush will be the Raiders' starting RB in Week 11 against Cincinnati. Bush started Week 10 and had 119 yards on 14 carries against the Chiefs, but now faces the Bengals' No. 2 rush defense. (by Deadpool5 11/20/2009 8:42 pm EST)

Cable was on the radio saying that DHB specifically needed to kick it up a notch otherwise he was going to be benched as well. Is a Javon sighting possible?

If your counting on Bush to be the "key" to your season, you must be planning to be playing in a toilet bowl game.

Positives:

Good o-line

Team runs it a lot

Negatives:

Rbbc

It's the Raiders

Tough schedule

I want to pick up Bush but I'd have to drop Bradshaw or Mike Bell...and honestly, I view those handcuffs as having the greater upside. What's the upside with Michael? 15 carries a game plus the goal line work? If they ever GOT to the red zone that might be worth something, but they don't.

Gradkowski looked decent. And when was the last time Jruss had a 2:1 TD:int ratio?Too bad cable's definition of a starting RB gets FOUR carries... :lmao:

Raiders force late fumble, kick field goal to shock Bengals Nov. 22, 2009CBSSports.com wire reportsOAKLAND, Calif. -- Before the season even started, the Oakland Raiders picked this week's game to dedicate to Marquis Cooper, their former special teams star who died in a boating accident earlier this year. With Cooper's family watching, it was only fitting that it was the type of special teams play Cooper took so much pride in that decided this game.Bruce Gradkowski threw a 29-yard game-tying touchdown pass to Louis Murphy with 33 seconds left and Brandon Myers forced a fumble on the ensuing kickoff to set up Sebastian Janikowski's game-winning 33-yard field goal that gave the Raiders a 20-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday."He caused the fumble," linebacker Sam Williams said. "That was unbelievable."Bengals-Raiders videosRecap: Harlan, Wilcots in OaklandBengals-Raiders linksPostgame reports: Bengals | RaidersCooper died in a boating mishap off the Florida coast earlier this year. He went on the trip with three friends on Feb. 28, but their boat capsized about 70 miles west of Clearwater as the men tried to free a stuck anchor.Cooper, free-agent NFL defensive lineman Corey Smith and former South Florida player William Bleakley died in the accident. Nick Schuyler, also a former USF player, was the only survivor.Williams and Justin Fargas showed Cooper's wife, Rebekah, mother, Donna, and 4-year-old daughter, Delaney around this weekend, allowing Rebekah to see the locker where her late husband prepared for games after joining the Raiders last season. After the game, coach Tom Cable told the team that the only game ball would be presented to Cooper's family."Before the game his 4-year-old daughter said she was excited to watch the game. She said, 'I get to see my daddy play!"' Williams said. "Man. I just spread the word and everybody felt the emotions of that. It was special."It took nearly all 60 minutes, four turnovers and a thrilling comeback for the Raiders (3-7) to improve to 10-0 all time in Oakland against the Bengals (7-3), including one playoff win.But this had to be one of the most painful for Cincinnati. The Bengals maintained their one-game lead over Pittsburgh in the AFC North after the Steelers lost in overtime at Kansas City, yet this loss could prove critical to seedings or even a playoff berth down the stretch."Coach [Marvin] Lewis talks about it all the time, about really stealing games on the road," receiver Chad Ochocinco said. "These are one of the teams -- no disrespect to them -- that we should have had the game."Oakland rallied from an early 14-point deficit and trailed 17-10 with 2:06 left and the ball at the 20. Gradkowski, who took the starting job from JaMarcus Russell this week, threw a 19-yard pass to Zach Miller, then a 16-yarder to Chaz Schilens on fourth-and-10.After a spike, Gradkowski found Murphy near the goal line. Murphy got loose from Morgan Trent and dived across the goal line for the tying score."As a team, we're not really known for fighting back, and we came back," Murphy said.Just when it seemed the game was headed to overtime, Andre Caldwell fumbled the kickoff return, giving the Raiders the ball at the 17. After three kneel-downs, Janikowski delivered the winning kick, setting off a celebration in the crowd of 34,112. Nnamdi Asomugha intercepted a last-ditch pass from Carson Palmer to seal the victory. "We came out today and didn't play well enough to win," Palmer said. "It's not something we need to sit around and talk about. The point is we lost. Anybody is capable of beating you on any day of the week no matter how good you think you are. When it comes down to it, you have to make plays and beat teams you're supposed to beat, and we didn't do that today."The Bengals scored touchdowns on two of their first three drives, but managed only three more points the rest of the way. Fullback Jeremi Johnson fumbled at the Oakland 15 with Cincinnati leading 17-10 and Shayne Graham also missed a 37-yard field goal in the third quarter.Palmer completed 14 of 22 passes for 207 yards and became the first Bengals quarterback to run for two touchdowns in a game since Jack Thompson in 1979. Rookie Bernard Scott ran for a season-high 119 yards in place of the injured Cedric Benson.Gradkowski replaced Russell in two of the past three games, but was unable to lead a single scoring drive. He did plenty with an entire week to prepare, giving the Raiders their first two-touchdown game since the opener. He connected on a 10-yarder to Miller in the second quarter and then the tying TD to Murphy. He finished 17 for 34 for 183 yards, with two turnovers, including an interception with 6 minutes left that almost cost Oakland the game."We're just fortunate the defense did a great job, got the ball back," Gradkowski said. "We made a couple plays and that's it."Notes

That is pretty telling of how bad JRuss is.
I hope that the ypc is what is telling here, and not the total yards rushing. This is remember a very stout defense they were playing against. And in catchup mode for most of the game. Gradkowski would be a huge dropoff from a Manning or Brady, but Russell was equally as much a dropoff for the entire Raiders team. Having 3 healthy backs only helps all of them succeed. They can stay fresh, and sustain drives. The offensive line is back and healthy again, and they are very effective. A game plan that doesn't ask Gradkowski to execute low percentage throws, and features the power run game, will help time of possession, rejuvenate the defense, and keep games close. As a fan, I'm excited to see the progress on Thanksgiving against the overrated Cowboys.
