Oakland Pass Defense? (1 Viewer)

I am going with Ward over Stallworth today but I am nervous about the Oak pass defense. I looked at their games this year and no WR's have had any type of game to speak about. Just wondering if it is because other teams are running wild on them and winning easily or because they are that good. To me, it doesn't seem like they have been blown out that bad that everyone will pull the reigns in completely on the passing game. How good is this Oak Secondary and Pass rush and do you expect Pitt. to have to throw in this game? If so, how does Ward matchup since he is basically Pitt's only big time WR. I expect H. Miller to do pretty well today IMHO. Not asking WSIS just wondering how good this defense is and if my concerns are warranted. Thanks.

Haven't seen much of the Raiders this year, but it seems like teams feel sorry for them and essentially look to kill the clock as soon as they put points on the board. See Shanahan's unusually conservative approach in Denver's recent win.

No. How many teams do you know that pass when they're up by 20?
Obviously somebody who doesn't watch games.. They might not really have the #1 pass D but it's better then most think.. Yes when other teams are up they won't pass as much but it isn't a huge drop off.. They are easily top 10.. Over the next few weeks will prove that.. If you haven't noticed the Raiders are getting better and it started with the Denver game..

They are easily top 10..
Week 4 against Charlie Frye & the Browns = 192 yards & 3 TD's.Week 5 against Alex Smith & the 49er's = 165 yards & 3 TD's.

If those two offenses can put up 3 TD's apiece through the air...no way Oakland is a top 10 pass D.

Lowest attempts against in ALL of football (second is Indy... why? Because teams run all over them). 8 TD passes, mediocre at best. 6 INTs, again very mediocre.

So your going by TD's?? Didn't think that was the mark of a pass D.. Last time I checked it was yards.. Like I said they are not the #1 like the stats show but much better then what people realize..

so you'd rather have your QB throw for 275 and no TDs as opposed to 160 and 3 TDs? Fantasy-wise, that is.

Passing defenses should be measured in yards/attempts/completions - it's a better indicator of the actual quality of the passing defense - TD's are far more variable.

Spoken like a true Raider Fan. Signed,crazyhorse1581 - Chiefs Fan :banned:

The Raiders' D is actually not that bad. 4.5 yard/play against is #5 in the league. And 3.9 yards/rush against is middle of the pack -- they aren't getting run over at all.

The problem is that the Raiders' offense sucks. Averages 4.4 yards/play (31st in the NFL) and has turned the ball over 20 times in six games (worst in the league, no one else has more than 17).

The defense is better than average, all things considered.

Every number against the Raiders D has to be taken with a grain of salt given the vanilla, "we've already won the game" offense played against them.

San Diego is the perfect example. Denver is another.

Those teams could've combined for 15 pass attempts and still would've won by 20+.

Having seen a couple of Raiders games this year, my thoughts are that the pass defense is decent. Schweigert and Huff are the real deal, imho. I think they definitely need help at corner though. My guess is CB and o-line are the two things they focus on addressing this coming offseason, via free agency and the draft.

Anyway, I think the Oakland pass defense is decent, but the low numbers they have allowed thus far is more indicative of teams going up early on them and running most of the 2nd half. Just my opinion from what I've seen and the stats I've looked at.

Schweigert absolutely stinks. Huff has been mediocre.

I've been impressed with their corner play. Asomugha is finally getting better and Washington looks to be decent.

Actually, it's both Raiders Fan. Yards allowed & TD's given up.

Teams don't throw for many yards against the Raiders, because they don't need to. But obviously when teams get in the Red Zone against the Raiders, they can take their shots through the air if they want and will usually be successful.

Sorry, but they really aren't that stout against the pass.

Not bottom feeders, but certainly nowhere close to Top 10.

Thought this might be interesting: It's quarterback fantasy points allowed per pass attempt... It's through tonight's games... Obviously there are some problems since it divides all quarterback fantasy points by only pass attempts, so teams that have allowed more rushing points from qbs will appear to allow more points per pass attempt...
