Raiders | Bush could start Week 3

Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders RB Michael Bush could be the team's lead back Week 3, depending on the condition of RB Darren McFadden (toe).
Raiders | McFadden No. 2 running back Week 3?

Sat, 20 Sep 2008 05:46:46 -0700

Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden (toe) will need a pain-killing injection to play in Week 3, according to head coach Lane Kiffin. McFadden will be closely monitored during pregame warmups to determine whether he will be the lead back or change-of-pace back during the game.

John Clayton reported McFadden will play with a steel plate in his shoe and may have an injection before the game to help with pain. "Michael Bush may start, but McFadden will get his carries".

NFL Network now saying that McFadden just said "reports of him starting are news to him" and that he hasn't decided yet.

Is it his choice?
I watched that report also and it sounds like it is going to come down to whether he is going to take "the needle" or not.
CBS Sports has confirmed that Raiders RB Darren McFadden will play at Buffalo in Week 3. McFadden took a pain-killing shot in his toe and will play with a steel plate in his shoe. Sounds like he got needled.

McFadden is an honest kid, gotta think about the context here. This might be what happened, "Yo Darren, heard you're starting today" and Darren smiles widely and says "Thats news to me" and then Darrens walks off jumping in the air and pumping his fists.

I'm quoting Kara Henderson on NFL Network (she is in buffalo):

"I just talked to Darrin McFadden as he got of the field after his early warm up. He said reports of him starting are news to him. He said he hasn't even decided yet wether or not he's gonna get an injection for that turf toe pain killing before he goes out there. He said when he comes out for pre game he'll make that determination and they'll also be able to figure out exaclty then if he'll be able to start."

I feel that he will still split carries with Bush, but that he's needled and playing with the plate that he has been practicing with this week, makes me think he will start and have the potential to do well. Was debating starting Bush over Ronnie Brown in a PPR league -- with this news, I'm temepring expectations for Bush accordingly and rolling with Brown. 'Cause I know you were interested. :tumbleweed:

Not to turn this into a WDIS thread so I'll keep it kinda vague.

Given the recent injury news, who will have the better fantasy day; Bush or McFadden?

3rd week as a pro and hes already taking the shot... lets see what the kid is made out of.

I got him going in my leagues today...

I actually think that a decent amount of McFadden carries will only HELP Bush have a better day. The defense is going to be so worried about not letting up the big play to him, that he may be overlooked a bit like he was last week.

John Clayton reported McFadden will play with a steel plate in his shoe and may have an injection before the game to help with pain. "Michael Bush may start, but McFadden will get his carries".
Interesting. NFLN reporting that McFadden will start.
So is Clayton:"As expected, Justin Fargas (groin) is inactive for Week 3, according to ESPN's John Clayton. Darren McFadden (toe), though, is active and will start. Michael Bush will back him up and get a decent handful of carries, considering how much of a part of the Raiders' game plan the running game is. McFadden is a must-start"

OK, here is a bold prediction. McFadden's going to have a lot more than 18 carries today; he will have a big game, and Bush will barely seek action.

And I know this because McFadden is sitting on my bench behind Barber, Turner, and Forte, and at least one of them is going to get outperfomed by this guy, as usually happens to me...

It's generally a good practice to do the opposite of whatever Clayton says. McFadden doesn't look like he is going to do much today.
