Ochocinco changing his name again (1 Viewer)

Much like how Ocho Cinco is not Spanish for 85, Hachi Go is not Japanese for 85, either.Johnson's an idiot in many languages. :boxing:
Actually no.From Ocho:

"I'm not sure how Mr. Goodell is going to take it," Ochocinco said as he held up the jersey.

But why "Hachi Go"?

A Japanese film crew was in town a couple weeks ago to do a piece on the Bengals for a NFL show over there. They said all NFL fans in Japan know who Chad Ochocinco(notes) is and they seriously made a proposal to Chad to change his last name to "Hachi Go".

"Some fans of mine that are Japanese said I should change my last name to 'Hachi Go'."
And that's the rest of the story. [/Paul Harvey]

Isn't possible, maybe even OBVIOUS that he knows that it's not a literal translation for the word 85. Everything that man does is exceedingly calculated, and he probably prefers the pronunciation better.

I love how this guy irritates people. :boxing:
Agreed. Finally a guy that loves the game and wants to have fun. What does he get? A bunch of crabs. I don't see how this affects anyone other than him and maybe the NFL (a crabby collection of crabs hellbent on not enjoying life).I completely enjoy it when he does this stuff.

I've done almost a complete 360 on this guy.Went from "He's a attention wh***" to "Pretty cool, he's just having fun."And now i think it's more about the attention. Yes, he's having fun, but part of his fun is about having his name talked about. A lot. It's like the class clown we each had in grade school. They're just having fun too, but at the same time, they're annoying.

Of course it is about the attention. No question. I guess I don't have a problem with that. The way some people react to him you'd think he was beating baby seals in the center of the field of something. I personally think that 90% of the players in the QB, WR, and RB positions wound up there because of the attention they garner. Now if he starts beat baby seals or pushing down old ladies I will definitely change my opinion.

He's rather brilliant, actually.

He gets money for each jersey of his that sells. With each name change, people buy replacement jerseys.

He's going after different markets. How many NFL players do you think the Japanese can really name? He's spreading both his brand and the NFL.

He's not always been a perfect player but he's been one of the best at his position for several years. This year it seems he finally 'gets it'. He doesn't get arrested, beat women, or do drugs while partying it up at nightclubs.

He flies Bengals fans to road games on HIS dime, buys his fans movie tickets, video games, dinner and drinks.

He clowns around a lot but so what? He clearly loves his job. He's an attention whore and maybe that's not your individual style but why should that matter? We should all be so lucky to have a job we enjoy half as much as he enjoys him.

If his act isn't your cup of tea that's fine. But if you actually hate him for these antics, you need to have the stick removed.

I completely agree, the guy knows how to market his own name, and the NFL. To get more ink he tallies up fines. But he is not doing anything unmoral or ethically wrong... or something to bring down the image of the NFL.

Except like last time he'll either have to wait until next year or pay the rest of the jerseys produced.

Hachi Go.

What's next?

Unless he personally ordered the jerseys to be produced in the first place (or made some type of promise to the jersey producer about not changing his name) I don't think he should have to pay to replace them. Although can you imagine how much money he will make if the jerseys catch on in Japan?

People worship Marvin Harrison, Michael Irvin, Brandon Marshall, Randy Moss, Jimmy Smith and Plaxico Burress, but Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens are reviled.

If Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens shot off their firearms in the middle of a public building, or snorted the sideline, or beat their girl or ran over a traffic control officer, maybe they could garner some public support.

Whatever you do, don't change your name for publicity. Don't do situps in your driveway. People just won't support that.

Is it Japanese for eighty-five or just the numbers 8 and 5? Maybe he should've learned the right Spanish word for eighty-five.

You've got the outline of a general point that I agree with, but c'mon. That's a massive reach. If there is a person on the planet who worships Plaxico Burress and reviles Chad Johnson, please let him speak up now. And everyone's always been completely positive toward Randy Moss and Michael Irvin. There's two guys with squeaky clean images yesiree.

I love Hatchi. The hidden gem imbedded in the articles is that instead of making his announcement to the news media/radio/tv etc, he chose a platform that helps pirates stream the games. That's TOTALLY INTENTIONAL.

Chad Ochocinco Changing His Last Name Yet Again

Posted By Glenn S. Moore on Sunday, December 6th, 2009, 9:10 am

Oh boy. If NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell thought Chad Ochocinco’s name changing days were over, he has another thing coming.

Ochocinco announced on his live USTREAM broadcast Sunday morning that he will be legally changing his last name to “Hachi Go” next season.

“Hachi Go” is Japanese for 8 - 5.

While cooking breakfast, only six hours before his Cincinnati Bengals took on the Detroit Lions, he held up a custom made Cincinnati Bengals jersey with “Hachi Go” on the back.

“I’m not sure how Mr. Goodell is going to take it,” Ochocinco said as he held up the jersey.

But why “Hachi Go”?

A Japanese film crew was in town a couple weeks ago to do a piece on the Bengals for a NFL show over there. They said all NFL fans in Japan know who Chad Ochocinco is and they seriously made a proposal to Chad to change his last name to “Hachi Go”.

“Some fans of mine that are Japanese said I should change my last name to ‘Hachi Go’.”

He legally changed his name to Chad Javon Ochocinco on August 29, 2008. The Cincinnati Bengals decided to allow him to have it on the back of his jersey, though Ochocinco continued to wear his old “C. Johnson” jersey during the 2008 football season, due to contractual obligations with Reebok. He has played with “Ochocinco” on the back of his jersey since the 2009 preseason. He wanted it to read “Ocho Cinco” but the NFL will only allow his legal name as spelled on his name change paperwork.

If he was on your team how cool would it be to have his live stream of chad making breakfast and firing himself up for the game on in a stream while u do the same/check your lineups. It would prolly lead to starting him more.

Personally I don't see why announcers don't just call him Chad Johnson.
Same reason they don't call him George Jones. It's not his name.sincerely,Marion Morrison
He's Chad Johnson to me. I would love to see him get traded to a team where #85 is already taken and he won't give it up. Would he change his name to the new number in spanish?

How bout he changes his name back to Chad Johnson. He was alot better then, now he's just another mediocre WR. Keep changin ur name dude, nobody cares. You're an average WR on a team that gets 0 publicity. Gotta do what you gotta do to get on sportscenter i suppose. We all know you aint gettin on their by your play on the field.

They may not deserve to be on sportscenter, but these Bengals would embarass your cowboys, unless they played in December in which case the cowboys would embarass themselves.

That's not saying much. Neither team is winning anything so who cares. Not talkin bout the Bengals, talkin bout Chad WhateverHisNameIs, he's a mediocre WR who thinks hes a superstar. Please, do not use Chad WhateverHisNameIs name in the same sentence with T.O. T.O. is a first ballot hall of famer. Unless they open up a spot for name changes in a career or post touchdown celebrations in the hall of fame Chad Whatever won't be gettin in.

62 catches, 910 yards (14.7ypc) & 6 TDs in 12 games.I'm sure you perform that well at your job.Seriously, how much more do you want?

Why does it bother you so much? His name is legally Ochocinco, deal with it and show some respect. He is a good citizen, he doesn't drink or do drugs he is active in his community and he is a darn good player on the field.I hope most of you judgmental types appreciate how lucky you are not to live in glass houses because I am certain you would not appreciate any scrutiny of your lives.

remove those 5 years and his stats don't look that much different. I think (especially he is gonna have another 1200-1300 yard season this year) it's waaay to early to rule him out of he hall. Especially if the bengals get a ring this year. I mean TO has been in high powered offenses with three of the more competitive teams of the last two decades. Hachi Go has been with the bengals and done what he has, with far less talents around him, on the line, and throwing the ball.

This would be cool. If the new team's player with 85 refused to sell it to Chad, then he could step it up a notch. He he could use a new number and a hyphen!!OchoQuattro - OchoCinco or perhaps 2 languages Chad OchoQuattro - HachiGo. People on each side of the stadium could take turns yelling half his name.

Yes he would. Because he cares more about pissing you off than his number.
Yeah....that's the ticket..... :hot:

....or better yet, one side of the stadium shouts "CHAD!!", and the other side shouts "JOHNSON!!". Maybe his first name used to be Harry?

Ochocinco is better than any WR on the "cowboys" and the Bengals are better than the Cowboys. As soon as you said "another mediocre Wr" your post lost all credibility.

With the 1st name change, that was what I thought too. Like the old dude in the barber shop in "Coming to America" talking about Ali.I'm not participating in a 2nd name change though. He's just screwing around now (he was before too, but I'll respect a man's right to be called what he wants once). I agree with Hoss, he should now only be referred to as Chad Johnson, and I think he will (if the name change happens). The first time, it was kind of cool, but a 2nd change takes away from that. It was really important to him to be called Ocho Cinco, now, it's evident that it wasn't that important. He's getting ready to cast aside his Hispanic fans for Japanese fans.If he changes his name again, I'll assume he's not really that serious. It means these name changes are not "real" to him. I'll take it about as seriously as a kid who wants to be called "Zorro Angel of Death". I'll play for a little bit, but eventually, I'm calling by his real name.
