Ochocinco Teams Up With Motorola to Lift Cincy Blackout (1 Viewer)

Bengals fans were poised to receive a blow this weekend. With 1200 unsold tickets the game between the Bengals and the Texans began to look more and more like a blackout. Per PFT, Motorola has teamed up with WR Chad Ochocinco to purchase the remaining tickets. The tickets will be handed out at 11:30 a.m. With Motorola's extensive NFL investments it would more than likely be a net loss for them if the game didn't air so don't look upon it too admirably. Getting Ocho involved was a great idea to take some of the heat off of themselves, but it leaves one to wonder: how many of these 1200 seats did Motorola purchase, and how many did Ocho purchase? Were willing to bet the latter didn't drop too much coin.

After a couple bad years of bad press, Ocho is doing this right to get on the good side of fans. Becoming one of the more likable guys in the NFL.

Why would it matter how many Ocho bought? Anything more than zero is more than necessary to him. If you follow his Twitter feed he does a ton of stuff like that.

Today he bought 40 tickets (the theatre capped him at 40) to some movie and he's giving them away to fans that show up. Also said he'd spring for food/drinks.

That's just one example. Dude is always giving #### away to fans.

Ocho is fastly becoming one of my favorite players in the league for this reason. He really seems to appreciate what he has and is very generous with sharing his wealth. Very cool dude.

I agree. Ocho seems like one of the good guys. Unlike many of the other prima donna WRs like TO, Crabtree, etc., I've always perceived Ocho's antics to be more in good fun and intended to entertain. Childlike vs. childish.

Glad to see he's back on track this year.

:bs: I agree. Chad gets a bad rap. Sure he loves the media attention, but he's always light-hearted and good-spirited about it unlike a T.O. He may have flaked out for a bit there, but he's back to being his normal likeable self and it's showing in both his play and in the Bengals performance.

If you havent heard theres a thing called a recession going on. This recession has hit the midwest especially hard. Alot of times during recessions people lose there jobs, and end up unemployed or forced into part time work. Going to a football game isnt a priority to alot of people these days.

Of course not, I think everyone knows and understands that. But if the Detroit Tigers can sell 35,000 seats regularly, I'd think the Bengals could at least sell out a home game.Besides the fact that the Tigers are very beloved, their city is also hardest hit by the economy.

Did you miss last spring/summer/fall?

it's amazing how much your mood improves when ryan fitzpatrick isn't throwing you the ball.
Isn't that the truth. Ochocinco seems to be running just a tad bit harder this year. He and Palmer have still missed on a few plays, but overall,Ochocino's performance and attitude appears much improved.

It's about money of course - marketing for both Motorola and OchoCinco (he has lots of stuff for sale on his website). But contrary to my impression of him in the past, I really do think Chad "gets" it now - the whole deal about being famous, WHY he is famous and what KEEPS him there on good terms (mainly the fans). I think he has matured a bit and can even see the humor in it all. I like the guy now. The league could use more people with that kind of attitude.

I am a little suprised at the tone of this article.

What does it matter how many either party purchased? The fact that the purchased 1 or 1200 to lift the blackout is a tremendous gesture!

Why does the fact that Motorolla needed or will benefit from the TV revenue make a difference? There is now several million (guessing on population) people that will now be able to watch the game that would not before unless they actually went down and purchased a ticket they probably couldn't afford. I think that Motorolla desereves a couple extra purchased phones for this type of action, good for them and good for Chad Johnson (I'm still in denial of his new last name).

I have looked down on Johnson in the past, but even if he only bought a couple tickets speaks volumes to me on his character!!! Maybe I will now call him by his new last name...maybe not. It really appears to me like he takes care of his fans better than most players in the NFL.

Nice selective cutting...

Chad's twitter is telling what movie he's going to tonight to see, anyone who shows at his location gets their ticket, snacks and drinks paid for as well..

Couple nights ago he went at midnight and picked up NBA LIVE 2K9 video game, those who showed up he bought the game for, then took a picture with them all..

Wish he was a BILL, Would love seeing him in the community.

Tell me about it..."but it leaves one to wonder: how many of these 1200 seats did Motorola purchase, and how many did Ocho purchase? Were willing to bet the latter didn't drop too much coin."What a horrible, cheap and uncalled for remark.

Wow, what a loser. Some people are gonna try dog a guy no matter what he does. Ya just can't win huh? Ochocinco rules. I wish the Skins would have traded for him now.

He buys tickets to every home game (or is it every game?) and gives them to fans. He's good for the game.

Bengals shouldn't exist. If it's a recession, and businesses are tightening up they belt and cutting the fat, sports should do the same. Cut the fat.

its cool and all, but it seems like a very poor way to manage one's money.

actually, all this good press coud get him a better deal next time 'round... hes the antithesis to TO right now

Wow, thought i was hyping up CJ or CO, my bad sorry if you guys took it the wrong way. Im just not on the side of big corporations, I doubt the motorola intent is for ppl to see the game, rather it is for ppl to see the game so they make x amount of dollars.

They're a business, most businesses do things with the intention of generating revenue in some form or another. Nature of the beast. The company I work for sponsors all sorts of community events, such as school carnivals, city BBQ's, etc, etc... It's a form of advertising for sure, and meant to help draw customers in, or keep current customers happy. All the same though, it's a lot more rewarding for the community when we spend our marketing dollars on things that help provide entertainment for the community, as opposed to shelling out millions for TV ads, or burying people in junk mail.

It wasnt all on the field. He didnt change his name on the field. He didnt demand to be traded or released on the field. He talked a lot more to the press at press conferences than on the field. The demand to be traded and not practicing hard was what hurt his image the most, the rest was mostly clowning which got him both good and bad attention.

Not just a better contract, if Ocho has a huge fan base he gets contracts with all the sponsers as well, not that's where the real money is for athletes.

A ticket to sit in the worst seat at a baseball game doesn't cost $64. To take a family of 4 to a Bengals game is going to cost you $300+. That's not cheap in Ohio. Sitting on your couch is warm and free.

The NFL is going to have to realize this reality. With massive HD televisions, NFL ticket, NFL Redzone, following your fantasy team on your PC, etc. - the "real" NFL experience on Sunday is starting to shift to the home and away from actually attending a game.I've been a Bengals season ticket holder for 10 years now, and even with a strong start, a large part of me would prefer to stay home on Sundays.

Hugs to Chad. I split my season tickets with my siblings, and this is one of the weeks I don't have the tix.

Too bad I'm playing the Ocho Cinco owner.

 So true. With how crisp TVs are now and with all the different camera angles you can appreciate, more people will opt for that experience.

Detroit is also 2x a large as Cincinnati.

:hifive: GB Chad.

The economy is likely to blame for most of it. That said, sometimes it takes awhile for a perennial doormat to gather the "fever."

I'm not sure if the Bengals are for real. We'll know soon enough. Either way, they're much improved.

Anyway, kudos to Chad. He's one of the good guys, IMO.

The Tigers had the biggest percentage drop in attendance in the American League, despite being in first place for 80% of the season.Kiss the baby.

:blackdot:I've always liked chad, even when bizarre. He's far more like Deon Sanders than Jeff george/Andre Rison as he is always portrayed to be. Even if it is Ochenta-y-cinco.

:blackdot: must be a browns fan.

The thing that I always find funny is that even when the NFL was fining him for his antics, the NFL network was showcasing the very same things and having him on weekly for interviews and making sure that all things Chad were covered. I think that for the most part, he means well and wants to succeed at the game. I have never seen any other pro athlete do the things off the field that he does with the fans.

yea, this is great and all, but he still changed his name to Chad Ochocinco. Lame.

and he did that stupid "future HOF'er" jacket after a TD. Lame.
