It is just a casual league with maybe one other shark, but it has one quirky scoring rule. QB's get one point per completion but 4 per TD. It is also a ppr league. I ran the league settings through DD, and the top ten QB's are all projected to have more points than Adrian Peterson and Arian Foster COMBINED. I have the 4 pick of 14 teams. How would you draft? It is tempting to pass on a RB and get the top QB, because noobs love to grab a qb early even though they do not understand the scoring format. I'm worried that the top 8 might be gone by 2.11.

In this (bizarre) scoring format, you're looking for QBs with high attempts--the completions will come.
At pick 4, I'd likely go Brees. A sneaky play if you want to wait on QB is Schaub. How long has this league been in existence? Have other leaguemates picked up on the effects of this scoring?

Like with everything else scoring wise, it comes down to looking at it from a value perspective...Is the dropoff from who you would draft in the 1st at QB to who you'd draft in the 2nd or later more or less than the dropoff from a top RB to the next tier of guys?Last year's numbers should be the easiest way to determine that.Without looking at the numbers though, I think your intuition is probably correct and Brady, Brees or Rodgers would make a lot of sense at #4. If you do go RB, you may be okay waiting on a guy like Bradford who passes a ton in that McDaniel offense.

You want high attempts all the way. And the value will drop quickly after the top guys. Last year's completion leaders were:Manning 450Brees 448Schaub 365Palmer 362Rivers 357Ryan 357Bradford 354Eli 339Brady 324Rodgers 312Flacco 306Henne 302There is roughly a 90 point drop from Manning/Brees to the next bunch clustered around 360, or put another way, approximately a 22 TD (with 4 points for passing TDs) gap that would need to be made up for someone in the 360 comp. tier to compete with the 450 comp. tier. Now, if you look at what Dodds projects out for this year, Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Rivers, Manning, Schaub and Romo are all pretty close together just over 350 completions. Bradford is projected at 332, Stafford at 329, Ryan at 330. I would make sure I got one of those guys, but unless you think one of them really stands out as the leader of a pass happy offense with a shot to get 400+ completions, then I don't think there is that much differentiation between them. IMO Brady or Rivers probably will chuck it the most, but not sure I'd project either to clear 400 completions.

This might be one of those situations where pairing up a QB/WR duo could pay off, especially Manning/Wayne: 450 completions for Manning and 111 receptions for Wayne... The only other QB/WR pair who is close is Brees with 448 completions last season with Colston's 84 catches. After that, the other big QBs are around 350+/- on completions. You're literally giving up 100 points no matter what you do if you pass on this strategy.
