Offensive Lines for 2007 (1 Viewer)

Is anyone tracking changes to offensive line changes in this of season? I haven't had time but I know NYG just lost Petitgout and I see some other old reiables are pondering retirement because of wear and tear.

Obviously, line makes a huge difference to skill position players productivity.

I think of the Chargers, Eagles,Miami, Colts and Vikings as having good lines but I'm unsure beyond that.

Any input out there :D ?

The Jaguars will actually sport a very solid line this season. Theyve added Tony Pashos who should aid in the running game quite extensively. Thats a nice tandem with LT Kalif Barnes who is a stud in his own right that just needs to learn to shut his mouth. The interior is great with that excellent, Pro-Bowl caliber guard tandem and Meester returning to call the shots.

Im very excited about the Jaguars running game this season. :hot:

Redskins line should be good as usual, but they'll have a new starter there for the first time in two years with LG Dockery's departure:

LT - Chris Samuels

LG - ???? (Todd Wade, Mike Pucillo, Ross Tucker???)

C - Casey Rabach

RG - Randey Thomas

RT - John Jansen

Considering that this was only the 2nd change to this line in the last three years, they should be ok. Wade's got the best shot right now, but we'll have to see how this plays out through camp.

Its too early to consider the Browns OL, since it is possible they will get Joe Thomas which would probably be a huge upgrade. And even then, if they don't get Thomas, maybe they get someone else would uprades a spot. After the draft we'll have a better look.

Miami's line is one of the worst in the NFL IMO. Cannot run block to save their life, which was disappointing after seeing what (insert OL coaches name) did in San Diego. Hopefully another year will help, but they need to address the line in the draft.

As a Redskin fan, what can you tell me about Dockery?

The latest news on the Denver Broncos line is that FA G Cooper Carlise is most likely to sign with Oakland. With Matt Lepsis recovering from an ACL injury, the line should look something like this:

LT Matt Lepsis

LG Ben Hamilton

C Tom Nalen

RG Chris Kuper (new starter, going into his 2nd year)

RT Erik Pears (played extensively, and quite admirably, at LT after Lepsis' injury in 2006)

The Bears have an excellent pass blocking unit, but don't have the legs to be anything more than an average run-blocking squad. Tait and Brown are fairly solid on the left side, and Kruetz is a solid center, but Garza and F. Miller will have to be replaced in the coming off-season(s). Tait and R. Brown may also be on their last legs. If I had to guess, the Bears will spend their first round pick on a T.

Overall, they are a god-send for Grossman, but Benson can't be too happy.

After getting Rookie of the Year honors in 2005, C. Williams was a bust last year, and I attributed a good part of it to TB's line. Have it improved at all?

We're greatly improved already, one more player would make this line very formidable.

I dont think of Miami has having that good of a line. The rest make sense although Vikings are a bit overrated.

I can offer a Jets outlook....

As of now, it loks like the line will have the same starters, but I do expect at least one first day draft pick to upgrade at RG or RT.

LT- D'Brick Ferguson- He was what I expected, a rookie LT that had a rep for being less than a stellar run blocker, and a guy who will have trouble against a bull rush in pass protection. Check and check. His rep for struggling to keep weight on was also apparent and he wore down late in the season giving up 10 sacks, mostly against bull rushers. Can he beef up, get stronger and keep the weight on? He can pull and block in space, as can his rookie counter part Mangold, but those atributes were not utilized very often last year.

LG- Kendall- A solid vet, but getting old.

C- Nick Mangold- Best player on the unit. Smart, strong, should improve his second year. Only weak spot is against monster NT's. He is already the glue that holds the line together as the blocking assignment play caller.

RG- Moore- He's there because he's cheap. He's cheap because he isn't very good. The most likely of the five to be replaced on day one of the draft. Can you say Ramirez?

RT- A Clement- Was allowed to walk in FA... and in a year where FA O linemen were buying mansions and yachts, Clement had no takers.... and re-signed with the Jets. He's a below average RT, better at run blocking than pass blocking, but that isn't saying much. Hold the fort guy. He's the Alamo of that genre. He'll hold up, but in the end, he'll lose the fort.

So, the run blocking hasn't improved, beyond whatever development Ferguson and Mangold can bring to the table. Jones is NOT going to fix the Jets run offense. Slightly better, maybe, but I wouldn't put much money on that either, without some new blood on the right side. It was a rarity to ever see Houston, Washington or Barlow ever get through the LoS without getting hit. That hasn't changed, and few RB's can run effectively through trash like that. The pass blocking is adequate for the Schotty lite offensive scheme. Lots of quick sideline outs. More of the same, barring a solid rookie who could be ready to start from this year's draft.

Jets left side is pretty much set with Brick, Kendall and anchored by Mangold. It's the left side that worries me. Moore (G) and Clement (T) are average at best.

I see the Jets using the 2nd of their two second round draft picks to grab one of these guys unless Chris Houston (CB) falls or Ugoh (OT) is there in the 1st. I personally feel they'll go OT as the guard spot is easier to patch than the tackle spot.

OT Doug Free

OT James Martin - my pick.

OG Manuel Ramirez

OG Andy Alleman

Dallas should have a better line IMO.
hey BGP I like the Browns to be a sleeper team this year and their O-Line should be vastly improved especially in October if LCB makes it back. Of course I'm seeing this through fan's eyes lol

I like Dockery and wanted him back (though not for the price paid), and given what I understand about Buffalo's line problems he'll be an improvement. The bad news is that he was no better than the fourth best starting lineman on the Redskins and maybe fifth depending upon how big of a Casey Rabach fan you were. He's a massive guy but I never felt like he consistently blocked as if he was, and often some smaller guys would push him back. He's a much better in-line blocker than he is pulling and blocking out in space, and sometimes he would trip over his own feet because he wasn't the most athletic guy. Some think that he benefitted greatly from blocking next to a multiple time Pro Bowler, Chris Samuels, throughout his career. In short he's a good but not great OG who is still young, and he's a good teammate, but there's no way he was worth that contract.

Well they played 2 rookies last year on the right side so I guess that could have had something to do with it but otherwise it was largely the same line as the year before and was generally considered an improving line. The addition of Petitgout is an upgrade and probably moves A. Davis to a backup role and with K. Walker backing up as well they have some depth on the outside. They really seem to be lacking depth on the inside, however, with no one behind Wade and only Terry to backup the OGs...they probably need to address the interior prior to the season unless one of their 7 OTs can be converted...Current Depth Chart:ROT - Jeremy Trueblood - Massive and improving...needs to work on strengthROG - Davin Joseph - Was hurt some last year...has elite ability if he continues to developC - John Wade - Functional but getting older...lets hope he takes his vitamins cause there are no backupsLOG - Dan Buenning - Probably should have started over Mahan last year anywayLOT - Luke Petitgout - Solid and versatileMain BackupsOT - Anthony DavisOT - Kenyatta WalkerOG - Jeb TerryOT - Torrin TuckerYoung Guys that may??? developC - Andrew Economos (3rd year)C - Nick Mihlhauser (2nd year)OT - Donald Penn (2nd year)OT - Dennis Roland (2nd year)OG - Jonathan Clinkscale (3rd year)

Calling Petitgout solid and versatile is a stretch.... but not near as much as saying the Jets O line will be rock solid!

Panthers line will be improved simply by having two starters return from injury. That equates to 40% of their line that missed virtually all of last year, and they had to move lots of people around to accomodate things. They ranked 24th in rush yds and 29th in TD's rushing last season, so a jump to the teens in rush yardage rank and low 20's for TD's would be my estimate for '07. Not great, but better.
