'Offensive' Offensive Lines (1 Viewer)

Just kinda thinking out loud...

There have been a ton of posts about how much Addai stinks, because his production has been putrid behind his OL.

On the other hand, Steven Jackson, Larry Johnson, and MJD seem to be getting passes for their lousy production, because they have bad OLs.

How does one gauge whether the OL is bad enough to excuse the RBs performance or not? Personally, I think Indy has the worst of these 4 lines, but I would accept an argument that KC was worse. I just don't see Stl or Jax having that bad of OLs to excuse Jackson and Johnson, when Indy's OL is not an excuse for Addai.

I think part of it is expectations.

going into the season a lot of people expected great production from addai, and drafted him accordingly, whereas even people who took jackson high knew there was some risk going in, after last year.

johnson and mjd won't take the heat because they didn't face the same expectations.

OK, let's hold the Jacksonville RB's accountable. The Jags are without their starting LG, C, AND RG. Furthermore, their top backup was shot and lies in a hospital bed, their now-starting LG has a bum knee, and they started a guy at RG who signed with the team days before the game in Buffalo. But, yeah, it's not that bad.

Addai has also gone up against two solid run Ds.
Jonathan Stewart and Ryan Grant have looked much better in my opinion against those same defenses. Grant isn't healthy either. And I agree with eballer - Johnson and MJD weren't viewed as Top 5 picks. Jackson was in some quarters but he was dropped by most even after his holdout ended. So if those players don't produce it stinks, but it's not the same as a Top 5 pick busting (which Addai has been thus far).

Carolina and GB have better o-lines right now than Indy, who've had to shuffle the entire group. Grant didnt look so hot against the Bears either and GB's o-line >>>>>>>>>> Indy's o-line

You mean the Lions, right? And again, Grant is hurt. He clearly isn't himself and despite that he still looked much better against the Vikings in my opinion than Addai did.

Did he have some semblance of a hole? Cause Addai had nothing. He was hit over and over again just as he was getting the ball. Might as well of played without an o-line

This is entirely subjective but I thought Grant ran harder the Vikings. Even when the gain was minimal, he just looked much more aggressive and assertive hitting the hole and trying to gain yardage than Addai did. So it wasn't a surprise to me he got a big run late because he had been running so hard early. Addai just isn't running very hard in my estimation. The line isn't helping him but he's not helping the line much either.

It's hard to know if you can only look at the stats. I guess TFL is a good one, but watching the game is the only way to know for sure. Addai was hit behind the line more than a few times versus the Bears and Vikings, so it's hard to blame him...

I knew he would suck prior to the draft.

Was he really THAT good before? Give Great Dayne carries from inside the 5 enough times and he'll score as well.

Not sure which of the 4 RBs I referred to in my original post you are speaking about....However, by your comment about number of carries inside the 5, my guess is it doesn't matter who you are talking about, since you don't know your stuff.
