Picks

12 Team PPR

Team A gave up:

Tannehill, Ryan MIA QB

Spiller, C.J. BUF RB

Year 2014 Draft Pick 1.07

Team B gave up:

Rodgers, Aaron GBP QB

Austin, Tavon STL WR

Year 2014 Draft Pick 3.02

Year 2014 Draft Pick 3.06

Year 2014 Draft Pick 3.11

Rosters are short in this league (22) and Team B now has 5 picks (1.02, 1.07, 1.08, 1.10, 2.06) and wouldn't have been able to use the 3rds due to not having guys to drop for them.
Seems like this one got lost in the shuffle. Anyone have thoughts?

PPR .5/1/1.5

Team A gave up:
Taylor, Stepfan ARI RB
Fitzgerald, Larry ARI WR

Team B gave up:
Stacy, Zac STL RB
Boykin, Jarrett GBP WR

When marshall is done playing, Julio will still be a stud for like 5 more years, maybe longer.

I think that is worth the #3 rookie pick. I will take 5 stud years over any unknown rookie.

Only way I dont take Julio is if i know I can deal pick 3 for a top 10-12 rb, which isnt likely.
he's only 4 years older and Julio relies on his freakish speed so i wouldn't be surprised if it were shorter than that. Speed isn't something that ages as gracefully

Still i agree he will be a force as Marshall declines

considering Spiller and 2 1sts was the price for Rodgers a page ago i would say a solid bargain

I don't think we've seen enough of Julio's game yet to say that he'll be a guy who must rely on his deep speed to be an effective fantasy WR. He's still developing and rounding out his game, which is the scary part.

Like I said, if I can get a nice and fairly young proven rb with pick 3, I will take that side. But if I HAVE to draft a guy at 3, I prefer Julio over marshall and whoever I would take.

But who knows how much longer Julio plays at a high level than Marshall. Could be zero or 8 years. Since he is 4 years younger I will say 3-4. To me 3 years of a stud WR is worth an unknown, especially when its not a talent like a Peterson, Fitz, sjax, green, Julio kinds of guys that will be there at 3.

12 team ppr

Give: Floyd, 1.10, 2.05

Get: 1.03, 1.05, 1.06
So Floyd is now a top 3-5 dynasty WR??? I wouldn't even think floyds mom would pay that.
That package is not likely to land anyone a top 3-5 WR. Still, as good as Floyd is, what is essentially a little more than 1.3 and 1.5 for Floyd is a nice haul.
In my 12 team, 1/2 ppr for WR/TE only league, I gave up J.Cameron for M.Floyd.

I tried to move Floyd to a rebuild team that has the top 5 picks in the draft, and he wouldn't trade any of those picks for Floyd.

Just a reminder: It's draft season.

Unless it's top 5 at a position, most of the trade evaluators responding will choose picks over established veterans. Shiny new toy season.

When week 3 of the 2014 season rolls around and you have to actually start some of these rookies, the opposite value will be higher.

Just keep a level head when trading either way.

Very few, if any, of the guys in my leagues want top picks. They all prefer established and proven players.

None of the people in these threads are in any if my leagues apparently.

Somebody's WR just got alot better

Give me Decker and Garcon
I'm trying to gauge Austins value. While those are two good WRs, Decker is not going to have Manning though. I'll take the picks and Austin but I am higher on Austin than most which makes me ask, why all the Austin hate this year? He is going to get his chance to succeed and have plays built around him being the 8th overall pick last year. Bradford will be back, he led all STL WRs in catches as a rookie (Not hard to do in that group) and gets chances in the Punt game. If they get a legit outside WR, I think we could see a special player. In a deep draft those picks can get something nice. Full disclosure I own Austin in one league and am looking to trade for him in another and love this deep draft.

I'm with you. Was Patterson's rookie year so much more impressive? I don't understand why one is in the 10-12 range and the other is in the 30-35 range.

Perception. He is small so not a prototypical WR. Patterson passes the "eyeball" test meaning he looks like Dez/Julio/DT.

I do think Austin saw alot more opportunity so not what he did. I think his rookie season was pretty good...and Clemens is no better than Ponder/Cassel/Freeman I thinkthe Patterson hype is more based around what he did with limited opportunity that I think has people salivating. That way the score every 10 touches on offense extrapolates out very favorably

Anyway I wouldn't fault anyone going to the other side on that deal. I just think both Garcon and Decker are pretty underrated/undervalued although I think the return in this deal was pretty well top dollar

Austin had 69 targets and 9 rushes. Patterson had 77 targets and 12 rushes.

I agree it has to do with size and prototypical WRs.

Patterson 45/469/4 and 12/158/3

Austin 40/418/4 and 9/151/1

Both had nice return games and have almost identical numbers. While TDs are product of offense and are great, will Patterson score on one every 10 plays? I hope I have him in WSL, but doubt it. I love Patterson but I just like Austin the same and am not hearing the same response about him from others. Have seen some deals here lately involving him so its good to get a tell on him.

Mainly it is perception.

The rookie that doesn't get playing time early is perceived to have a disadvantage over the one that does. Not about targets or actual opportunity.

14 team PPR devy league.

Earlier in the offseason I moved the 1.01 devy pick and small pieces for the 1.02 devy pick, Duke Johnson, and a future devy.

I then moved the 1.02 devy pick for the 1.07 devy and 1.14 devy picks. Now the draft is over:

I gave:

Melvin Gordon

Andre Roberts

Stedman Bailey

I got:

Duke Johnson

Karlos Williams

Devin Funchess

Future devy pick that I used in a trade for Spiller.

Julio is not just a speed guy. He's strong as a bull, runs routes well enough and can run after the catch.

Other than maybe the 2013 version of Freeman, I can assure you Clemmens is far worse than those guys.

Austin missed the final three games too, so he isn't at top of minds heading into the offseason. Patterson had 2 TDs week 17, so that helps in the perception.

It's not perception with me. Patterson looks like a real player. Austin looks like a player who will have some big games and a lot of duds. Or be hurt a lot. I didint particularly like him much coming into the league.

This comes down then to you putting your own eyeball test over what both guys rookie numbers and the huge difference in draft position tell us. Not saying definitively that you're wrong in this case, but over time it's pretty hard to out scout NFL franchises IMO.

I'd go the other way. Buy low on Pierce and Austin, sell high on Decker and Garcon. I'm really liking the value in the mid-to-late first round this year.
I might take the picks side too, but I'm not as sold on this rookie draft or with Austin. I like Garcon. Decker concerns me. His value seems higher to me than I think his actual worth will be if/when he does change teams and no longer has the Denver offensive support.

That doesn't make any sense because before they were drafted the NFL teams didn't have the luxury of seeing them play an entire season against other NFL players. No draft would ever be the same the following year if they did it over.

Not to mention NFL GMs aren't doing a fantasy football draft.

Obviously true. But irrelevant in this case. Austin and Patterson had essentially identical rookie years. And are essentially the same profile of player -- great big play guys / returners with questions about how they'll develop and fit in as go to NFL WRs. Somehow Patterson is seen as a dynasty WR1 while Austin is seen as a WR3 at best. What happened in 2013 to radically change the market value of these two players? Certainly nothing concrete that I can find...
