avoiding injuries

Orioles began the season getting swept in MIN. The only positive was that we were able to hit Santana.

We just wrapped up our first series in NY taking 2 out of 3 and very well could have swept if it weren't for a complete melt down in the 8th and 9th inning yesterday. I spent 4hrs of my Saturday watching that game only to have my mood shattered with one swing of the bat.

Tomorrow is our home opener and I will be at the game. I'm getting into the city early and should be at the bar around noon. Anyone else going? First :loco: on me.

Tigers coming to visit tomorrow. I'll be living in the BW area in the next few years so I do monitor the Orioles more than I do with other teams. I do not really care for them however, but I already consider the Nats my NL team.

gl in that division though. Wouldn't mind seeing the O's make some noise.

One year the O's are going to break out and be good. It will most likely come out of nowhere and could be this year if the pitching holds up and the bullpen gets their act together. I wouldn't mind if they signed Markakis to 10yr contract to assure we have him locked up. He got another 3 hits today and looks incredible.

DD, how do you not care for a team who consistently fights for 3rd? I can see not paying attention to them, but nothing negative. Maybe I'm just a blind homer...

Old rivalry with the Tigers. I never forget. :)

Orioles heading into their second straight extra innings game. The good news, they have 1 run this time as opposed to being shut out last night. The bad news, they're playing the Royals.

The pitching has been great(not including the two game winning grand slams).

The offense has been horrible the past few games.

Will this thread be similar to the Madden threads if I am the only one posting in it?

O's finally caught a hit at the right time for a 2-1 win over the Royals. :bag:

2 runs in 33 innings before that run. Hopefully they can take the momentum from this win into the weekend and get to .500 and maybe above with a sweep.

J Wright put on the DL today with a sore shoulder. Guthright to get the start in his place. I heard he has a good story but haven't heard any details. Maybe someone else will read this thread and have the answer...probably not. :loco:

been reading along? yes I have...althought I don't have an answer for your question, know that you aren't in here alone---I just don't get too revved up for baseball during the first 100 days or so

keep up the good work, AI!

Thanks!

Bedard has 9 K's through 6 innings. Looking STRONG although he's throwing a lot of pitches and probably won't last much longer.

Bats are starting to come along. They had 12 hits last night and are working on 9 through 6 tonight.

Tough start going @MIN, @NYY and home vs AL Champ DET. This KC series followed by TB could be what the Dr ordered...

AI, I was wondering if there were any other O's fans in the threads. This would make 2 of us, :kicksrock:

O's lose tonight to TB, I don't know why they have so many problems every year with TB, it really irks me.

I think the pitching will be decent, I'm more worried about the offense. Hopefully when Payton and Hernandez get back, the offense will be a little more consistent.

BTW, is it me or does Gibbons look like a toothpick this year? Any chance he was juicing up and got off the stuff after he got his big contract? He's been crap ever since and now he looks like he has lost a LOT of weight.

Go O's!

I think we're up to 3 now. :hifive: .

I agree with what you said. The pitching should be alright this year. They made the necassary improvements in the bullpen and the starters are a year older and a year more experienced.

I think the hitting will come. They've been scoring a lot of runs and were playing in the cold(balt). Payton was our best offensive acquisition* during the offseason and hasn't played a game. Once he and Hernandez get back, I think the lineup will be considerably better.

I'm not sure about Gibbons. I noticed the new hair more than the body. He has hit safely in 5 of the last 6 games and has his avg up to .273. He won the game against KC last Thursday with a 10th inning single. He will lose some at bats when Payton gets back but overall I'm not too worried about him. At least we got rid of Jeff Conine.

* Forgot about Huff and don't feel like changing the post.

Make that 4 O's fans. Even though I live outside DC, I've always been an AL guy (Senators, then O's) and so can't get into the Nats and the NL. Give me the Yankees, Sox and Tigers vs the O's rather than the Phillies, Mets and Bravos vs the Nats.Anyway, I like the make-up of this O's team, although they do need a big bat somewhere in that line-up. Bedard and Cabrera are a pretty decent 1-2 punch to through at teams.

After all the money spent on the bullpen, so far so good. I think if they can get decent pitching from their starters, they may be able to challenge for the wild card, but that's probably just the homer in me talking.

Anyway, I like the make-up of this O's team, although they do need a big bat somewhere in that line-up.
I agree that one more big stick would be nice, but I think Markakis is on his way to be a superstar in this league. Roberts, Mora, Markakis, Miggy, ?????. Millar, Huff, Hernandez, Payton and Gibbons will likely rotate through that 5 spot. Not sure who I like best there.

My giant BoSux fan buddy tells me that Millar is done and was done in Boston or the Sux would have signed him. He does appear to now have "warning track" power, although maybe the warm weather will get him going. Roberts power was a flash in the pan, I'd be satisfied with 15-20 dingers from him.I agree that Markakis has the makings of a 12-15 year career RFer at the Yards. TPTB just better sign him up long term before he gets a chance to hit the FA market or he'll be playing in the new Yankee Stadium full time.

Another come from behind win for the O's. They're winning games so far this year that they never would've won the last few years. The bullpen is unbelievable so far, esp. Parrish. Who figured Parrish would be a key part of the bullpen this year?

Markakis does it again. Althoguh the hit would have been a double play had the infield been playing normal. F-it, I'll take what we can get.

Baltimore moves into 2nd place, 1.5 games back of Boston(yes, I know it's April). :goodposting:

Boston 11 5

Baltimore 10 7

N.Y. Yankees 8 8

Toronto 8 9

Tampa Bay 7 10

Loewen goes 5 2/3 letting up 2 runs but walked 7. Bradford comes in with 2 outs and bases loaded to get Adam out of the jam.

This bullpen is looking rediculous!!! Nice to see Jay Payton get into the game and all we need now is to have Ramon back and we have our team.

Even though they are 3 games above .500, I just heard that it was a year ago tomorrow that they last had that record. Hope they can hold it up.

I love this bullpen, but we're gonna have to have starters go at least into the seventh innining come June to have a chance later on.

Goood win tonight!

Someone get me a broom smiley. O's are 7-2 against the AL East and have Boston coming later this week.

Everything is looking good especially Markakis. This guy is my favorite Oriole and I wish they would sign him to a 10 year deal to avoid FA, ever.

Traschel pitched good but another short outing by our SP. Bullpen was fantastic again and there was no need for Chris Ray(who got me 52 points in my H2H league this week).

Awesome start to the spring!!!

I totally agree about Markakis. He's young and should only get better. It's about time the O's produced a position player from their farm system and he looks like he's gonna be solid for years to come.I'm not worried yet about the bullpen, mostly b/c they are carrying more relievers than usual. Even though the bullpen is seeing a lot of action, no one is being overworked. Most relievers like regular work anyway, though the starters will have to step up sooner or later.Great start, esp. since they're still not playing with a full roster. Roberts is out a few days, Gomez steps right in and plays well. Hernandez should be back this week some time. Let's see what they can really do with a full roster.Go O's!

I don't want to only post when they're winning so...

Bedard didn't look that good last night. He got 6 K's in under 5 innings but they were hitting the ball hard off of him and got 5 runs. Again, the bullpen comes in for 4.1 and only lets up one run. Solid.

We had plenty of chances to win it and I'm not going to mention the bunt or Patterson on third. Miggy had two at abts to do something late in the game with runners on including the last out and came up short.

Oh well, Oakland has our number. One more against them today and then Boston for two.

OK, you won't mention the bunt play so I won't either, but if Patterson looks at his thirdbase coach and has his head out of his ####, he scores on Roberts hit up the middle and it doesn't matter. And Miggy, WHY would you swing at the FIRST PITCH with the bases loaded and 2 out? Take a strike, DAMN IT!

Great game tonight to get the O's back to .500 and alone in 2nd place. Ramon back in the lineup with a huge base hit in the 9th to score two insurance runs. Not to mention his hit in the first inning to get the Birds on the board first.

Patterson had a clutch hit in the 8th to plate the tying and go ahead run. Bullpen came in for 3 scoreless innings and Bedard got 11K's in 6 innings!!!

Well, this thread has been pretty quiet for the past week while the Birds lost 9 out of 10 to drop to 4 under .500. Now Lowen's hurt, Wright's on the DL and nobody's hitting.

Sheesh, is this going to be the same old Orioles AGAIN this year? :banned:

Latest on Loewen??

A Dr. is supposed to be checking him out and he may miss his next start. Evidently there is some pain in his left arm that is not going away. Could be nothing, could be everything...

Bad news

So Brian Burres looks to take Loewen's spot in the rotation. Haven't heard anything about this guy except that he is a long reliever.

I was hoping maybe they would call Penn back up and get some work in. I don't see how Penn could fair any worse than this Burres guy.

Great extra inning win last night. Hopefully the momentum carries throughout the home stand.

Penn is out until at least August with another injury, that's why they didn't call him up. I had high hopes for this year, but those hopes have faded along with the team. I think you'll see the O's call up Garrett Olson soon, their top pitching prospect. He's pitching well in Norfolk and since they won't have much to play for, why not throw him in and get him some major league work? It's gonna be a long summer for the Birds.

 I didn't even hear about that. Sucks. If they are not contending, no need to rush Olson up either. We'll see what happens. Good 8-2 win last night.

Four ####### feet away from tying the game.

O's fall back to 3rd place behind the Yankee's who just signed Clemens. Great.

Eta: Sizemore may be the most exciting player to watch in the outfield. He covered so much ground and had a few great defensive plays.

Holy ####, I am so embarrassed by the last inning yesterday. To the point I want to change my avatar and delete this thread. Should have had 2 of 3 from the 1st place team on the road(Should've, Would've, Could've).

Time to go to Canada and try to get back to .500.

Bullpen blows it again and now we have a clubhouse tiff. J Payton and Mora went after each other when the game was over last night because Mora took third while Payton was batting breaking his concentration and causing him to look at strike 2.

Something tells me if Payton had gotten a hit there would have been no problem. Shut up and take responsibility. I agree Mora shouldn't have taken third but these guys need to own up to their own actions.

This season feels like it's completely falling apart and we are just outside of 2nd place.

Six weeks in and this thread has no mention of O's sideline reporter Amber Theoharis? What in tarnation is going on here?

Danny Baez should be traded for a bag of rocks. And if Perlozzo keeps using him as the setup man he needs to lose his job. Actually, I think he and the rest of the staff(EXCEPT Mazzone) should be replaced no matter what they do.

Another solid start by Berdard wasted yet again.

Guess who gave up a 10th inning homer and picked up ANOTHER loss. Yep, Danny ####### Baez. His 5th homerun given up in 21 innings.

Why the #### does he even pitch anymore? I know it was the 10th, so at least they did not have full intentions on using him. At this point he is taking up a roster spot from someone who could have a positive impact on a MLB team.

To make matters worse, the #### sucker struck out the side with a HR in the middle so there is a chance that the coaching staff see that as something to build on.

It's a shame, a ####### shame. I actually watched the Red Sox/Yankees game on ESPN over the BAL/TOR game last night b/c it's getting so hard to deal with. I feel like crying or punching a wall.

5 game winning streak. Took two from OAK and just completed the sweep of KC. Rough times coming up with a West coast road trip to ANA and then SEA.

We're one game under .500 (10.5 back) and I'll be happy if we can stay there after the rest of this road trip.

LET"S GO O'S
