***Official*** 2007 Chicago Cubs thread! (1 Viewer)

Surprised this one hasn't been started.

The calendar has turned and with it, so has the play of the Chicago Cubs.

They've crept back to within a game of .500 and are in second place, albeit still 5 games out.

Soriano's hot. D-Lee's unconscious. Believe it or not, Dempster's blown just one save. Rich Hill is fast approaching Barry Zito status. And we're just two weeks away from the Cubs/White Sox series.

With the hitting coming back to meet with the pitching, it's an exciting time right now for Cubs fans.

It's looking good after the SWEEP this weekend. I know it's only the Nat's but these are the games they have to win, and they did. :lmao:

:bag: I've been a Cub believer since the early spring. Even put $100 on a longshot futures ticket for them to win the world series this year. Their offense is heating up -- just hope the starting pitching can keep their luck going.

This has been their problem the past several years, they just couldn't seem to beat the "bad" teams......Things are looking up.

They played like crap Monday. Hell, they even got the benefit of some bad umpiring and still couldn't put up a W. They deserved to lose, and unfortunately though, it was one they should have easily won.

Thank you Cardinals for Jason Marquis!

Now if only we can get Prince Fielder and the freakin' Brewers to stop winning!

I have never seen a team so cursed. Lou is probably sorry that he came back but they should hit. Hey if we combine the Sox and the Cubs we might have a contender!

Why doesn't this franchise just fold? I mean really, it's been 99 years now.
The embarassment that is Chicago Cubs baseball is almost 100% complete.Players fighting with each other like 8 year olds.Which we now know is only behavior that is following the example set by the manager, who himself acted like an 8 year old and porbably cost himself 20 games with his little tirade yesterday. And if that wasn't enough, the Chicago Cubs faithful showed themselves to be no better than the players or the manager by once again showing why they are the worst behaved fans in baseball by littering the field with debris while Lou was putting on his temper tantrum. The icing on the cake will be the century of futility and the Eamus Catuli Y2K clock strikes midnight. Then you can fold it.

Even though they've been playing well, they've still only won 9 of 15 or something like that. What a frustrating season. Even when we make headway, the Brewers find a way to pull a couple more games away.

Why don't you run on the field and beat up some unsuspecting 1B coach while your at it.

Come on you can do better than that. What about Disco Demolition? BTW- Derria Lee throws a punch like a girl and then hides behind Lou? I don't care what Cubs and Sox fans have to say BOTH teams are a joke to MLB this year....

How is your search going for a new team to root for now that the Sox suck? Going with the Angels? They seem to be winning a bunch of games. Maybe the Tigers? That way you could savage the fans of your old favorite team. Could be right up your alley.

White Sox fans obsessed with the Cubs, what else is new?
Why would a Sox fan want to be obsessed with the Cubs?
Actually, you seem to be remotely cool in this thread. Ask your good buddy, Limp Frontrunner why he's obsessed. Honestly, being a fan of one team, swiching to the other team then proceeding to berate the other team's fans has to be the dooshiest thing I have ever seen out of a sports fan. Seriously.

Seriously?

Five perfect innings by the bullpen including Marmol with 5 strikeouts in 3 innings.

So does this mean tomorrow there's a bullpen blowup due?

I'll keep this one going, I guess.

Good game Friday (of course, because it was a win, lol). After losing 2 of 3 to the Rangers, a sweep is almost necessary. Sure, it's kind of early. But they have to show themselves that they can sweep a team. Otherwise, 2 of 3 won't cut it if the stupid Brewers keep getting hot every now and then.

Rumors are starting that J.Jones may be traded today to make room for the 12th pitcher the Cubs want to carry??? Anyone else hearing anything?

So what is the word on Big Z and his contract situation. Tell me the Cubs aren't going to make the same mistake the WhiteSox are about to...

 :lmao: I'm sure it all has to do with the sale of the team.I hope everything gets straightened out in a timely manner though.

And what mistake is that?
Failure to sign a home-grown ace due to cheap owners/whatever company line Kenny Williams has been spewing...

1. He's not an ace2. It's a bigger mistake to let him go after the year and get nothing in return3. Jack McDowell, Wilson Alvarez, Alex Fernandez, Mike Sirotka are all names that remind me their company line when it comes to signing pitchers to long term deals isn't a bad idea.

I understand what you're saying, and I agree that in most cases 4+ years for a pitcher is a mistake. I simply think MB is the type that will last, and while he may not be the proto-typical ace, he is pretty close. I hope I'm wrong, but I think this move will haunt the Sox for the next few years.

So the Cubs just had me excited for a 4-game winning streak. Then they had me cursing Piniella for sending Eyre out there for a third inning. THEN I was wondering why the hell Marmol isn't getting a chance. Then I KNEW they wouldn't do a damn thing in the 9th inning. Finally, I knew Soriano was going to blow it with the bases loaded. ANd then, FINAL FINALLY, I was jumping up and down waking the neighbors.

Being a Cubs fan sucks.

There is no search and you're a moron if you think there ever will be one. The only thing that could stop me from being a White Sox fan is them relocating out of the immediate area.As for your beloved Cubs, it's nice to see that the embarassing behavoir of the fans reached new levels tonight as some idiot Cubs fan (but really, aren't most of them?) ran out on the field and tried to attack Bobby Howry tonight after his 9th inning meltdown. This trumps the Ligues 10 fold. At least our fans don't attack our own when things are going bad. It's a shame they pulled that one out tonight. It's always a special moment at Waveland and Sheffield when they raise the L flag in celebration of yet another defeat in Lakeview. I hate to see the fans deprived of such a special moment on any given day.

Haha. I just said something along those lines in the other thread. And I'm a Cubs fan. lol. Rough day for me. Idiot Cubs fans? There are plenty of idiot fans everywhere.

I was hoping Marmol would get the call as well. In fact I told the kids that's who I wished had came in.I also told the kids that I was glad Theriot was up, then when he reached, I told the kids that Soriano would strike out.Oh well, it was not pretty, but it is indeed a win. The W flag is hoisted !!

I'm still in the process of giving you the benefit of doubt that you're part of the minority

Haha. THat is exactly what was going through my mind. I think we're conditioned to expect defeat. lol.

You're right, instead Sox fans get drunk with their sons and then go and attack helpless 60 year old first base coaches.
