***Official*** 2007 Chicago Cubs thread! (1 Viewer)

Cubs are on a nice little roll. I'd love to see them put Soriano into a run producing slot in the order, but I doubt they change anything while they're on a streak.

Still, they're 3 games under .500 and the Brewers show no signs of slowing down.

Keep the faith -- it's a long season and at least they're starting to play to their potential

I've got my Keith Moreland autographed cap ready to wear to a Cubs World Series game!

I'm coming down from Milwaukee for the Saturday game. Can I get tips on parking etc.? The guy I'm going with suggested The Cubby Bear and Sluggers for the pre-game warm up. Any thoughts on these bars?

All help is much appreciated.

Parking? NO CHANCE. $40 close to the park, $15-20 a couple blocks away.Pre-game: Give Murphys a try. They sit just beyond Center Field, and have a pretty nice beer garden.

Get there early! Like Wrigley is saying- park away from the park and get all day parking deal if you are staying. Keep this in mind- even in places that are a few blocks away will lure you in and then ask you how long you will be staying for the game. If you go to the game and leave right away you will be trapped in. If you tell them that you are going to hang out in the neighborhood after the game the price of your parking has just gone up another 10-20 bucks. So, to beat this get there very early like 9:30 and try to get parking a safe distance from the park and walk or cab. Get a good breakfast in and then take on Sluggers or Cubby Bear or Murphy's. This way you can leave when you want to leave and not get trapped in. It is a very good time after the games to hit places to hang out and have a cold one and not to rush off.....

Big series starting tomorrow! Not liking the pitching matchups though...

Fri: Gallardo vs. Hill

Sat: Sheets vs. Marshall

Sun: Bush vs. Marquis

Unfortunately I see the Brewers taking 2/3 this series unless the Cubs bats come alive in a big way.

Here's a secret on parking: park as close to an intersection as possible. Do this at your own risk ... but when I go, I park like right on a corner because it's always open. Nobody wants to take the risk of a ticket or anything. But on game days, i assume they let some things slide. Last three or four times I"ve gone, this has gotten me free street parking about 5 or 6 blocks - if not less- from the park.Oh, btw, some will call B.S. That's cool. Just keep leaving those spots to me.

I've done this before, you are right about one thing....it is scary not knowing if your car will be there when you return.Because if it's not, instead of paying $40 for an easy out spot, you just paid $250 for a not so easy out spot.

 I thought about the dancing pickle as soon as I heard about the game ... but just got home from work. :)
 Huge win today. I recorded the game, but the DVR didn't get the bottom of the 9th. I was all depressed until I looked at the score and saw that the Cubbies somehow pulled it off! I have Cordero in my fantasy league, but I couldn't be happier about this blown save! Big kudos to the bullpen for shutting the Brewers out after Hill left the game. This kid Petrick really surprised me. I saw that he was just recalled from A/AA and thought he was going to be the sacrificial lamb. His pitches seemed to be going right into the middle of the plate, but it must've been either deceptively fast or had more movement than it looked on TV because the Brewers were not able to make good contact off him. Fontenot continues to impress -- I can't help but think if Dusty were still managing the team, Izturis or Jacque Jones would be batting 2nd.

I see Cubs "fans" are coming out of the woodwork after this thread has been silent all year. I love that ####! It takes balls to jump on that sinking ship. Congrats to all who have posted for the first time in the past 5 days. True baseball fans, no doubt.

disclaimer: I don't care about the Cubs, Tigers, or any other baseball team. :lmao: at calling Cubs fans bandwagoners. the franchise hasn't won anything in how long?

also pretty sure the Tigers bandwagon has tripled in the past year or so.

and how 'bout them Seahawks?

:goodposting:

Actually I wasn't calling them bandwagon jumpers sensistive Sally, I was actually wondering where they all are since there are so many Bears fans on this board. I have nothing against the Cubs exept they beat the Tigers in the 1907 and 1908 World Series'. I'm over that now. Tigers bandwagon is hard to gage, it's very local, and I address this at another board every day. The Seahawks don't really have bandwagon jumpers if any at all because of geography.

And don't give us the disclaimer about not caring. Since you live in Chicago and have to be around those fans you have a vested interest in the Cubs whether you like them or not.

Not really. I still don't see too many Cubs fans around here when we constantly have to hear what great fans they are even following a loser. Maybe there just aren't that many Cub fans here and I'll stand corrected. But if they make a run, I predict cockroaches.

Can you honestly say that you were as big of a Tigers fan when they were trotting out Robert Fick, Dean Palmer, Wendell Magee and Jose Lima as you are right now?

I was in the neighborhood but I also lived in Europe and access to the team was difficult as the internet was still in its' infancy and AFRTS airs teams that are good. 2002 was the first year I had MLB radio and I think I listened to about 80 of their loses. But I follow baseball closer than the other sports anyway so I guess my case would be a little different than most. Detroit is a good baseball town so the core fan group probably has the same interest but they are just more excited now. The periphery fans have been drawn back in now which is a mixed blessing. They create a more desirable baseball atmosphere at the games and bring more revenue to the team but they also drag down sports talk radio and the internet forums. Then there are those who had zero interest and are just getting involved. I like this group much more but the older ones who are pessimistic Red Wings and Lions fans are annoying. Cubs fans are always solid in my book. The periphery fans usually know baseball pretty well and are usually worth talking to. The core fans are great and I watched the 2002 NLCS with a monster Cubs. After the Bartman incident and the error I just got up and left. Didn't even say goodbye because I knew what that must have felt like and I really hoped they were going to win that series. Also please don't hate on Wendell Magee. My best Magee memory was a two run homer he hit against the Indians in the only game I saw at Comerica in 2000 which was it's first year in existence. I think he hit it off Chuck Finley but they were down early and that HR was huge. They ended up winning that game. I think I remember saying to friends later that day, "man Wendell McGee was huge today." That was probably never uttered again.

Been out of town at my son's baseball tournament in Wi, (Watertown). I missed the exciting, come from behind win Fri, and the butt whipping Sat. Today's a big one for the Cubs. . Marquis better turn it around or it will be a LONG day.

It's game time, Go Cubs.

Cubs are on a nice little roll. I'd love to see them put Soriano into a run producing slot in the order, but I doubt they change anything while they're on a streak.Still, they're 3 games under .500 and the Brewers show no signs of slowing down.
Keep the faith -- it's a long season and at least they're starting to play to their potential
I've got my Keith Moreland autographed cap ready to wear to a Cubs World Series game!
Anybody with a Keith Moreland autographed cap gets 5 stars from me! His overall numbers never were that impressive, but it seemed like he'd go on these 2 week tears where he would crush everything in sight. Ryno, Jody Davis, Ron Cey... I still get depressed when I think about the '84 series with the Padres. :D

5-0 in the first. This better turn around fast.
Cubs-Brewers score. Currently 5-3 in the 8th, so there's still hope.
The :D was directed at Power Monster who's a White Sox fan
I am a fan of the WS first and foremost but I am a fan of baseball in general. I am not going to hop on the Cubs but I would rather see any team in the MW win before I see a team on the East coast win so the Brewers, Cubs, Tribe, Tigers and Twins all have a shot.

With a Brewers loss earlier today, an opportunity is knocking to pick up another game tonight.

If the early lineup for the Cubs I saw is correct, they are going to have a hard time scoring runs.

Izturis, Jones, and Ward all in the lineup.
