Today's Big East games:

(4) Louisville (2-0) vs (8) Villanova (2-1) - 10am

(2) Cincinnati (2-0) vs (6) USF (2-1) - 1pm

If Villanova or USF wins, there will be another game later in the day.

Big East final is at 1pm Saturday on ESPNU.

Big Bearcat fan here. With St. Johns out, I like our chances. Cincinnati is really hitting right now and they already had a pretty solid rotation. Even if they don't win it, I think they've done enough to get in the tournament. Louisville did take 2 of 3 in the regular season though so if that is the final, it will be interesting. I don't really see Villanova or USF winning a game today, but you never know.

1 Michigan vs 2 Purdue to advance to the Big10 title game tomorrow. Loser has to go down and win one to get the rematch.

 
FSU once again has one of the best teams in the country (and HFA through the Supers) and will once again get promptly shown the door by an inferor team. The only question is who.

 
Well, the Pac-10 got hit hard with this selection process.

Where is two-time defending champ Oregon State?

Oregon State made it into the field as a No. 3 seed a year ago and ended up repeating as champion. That won't happen this year as a 28-24 record (11-13 and tied for sixth place in the Pac-10) and a late swoon that saw the Beavers finish 6-6 burst their bubble. It's understandable that Oregon State's overall résumé wasn't strong enough to merit a bid but is hard to reconcile OSU's omission with Oklahoma's inclusion in the field as a No. 3 seed. The Beavers won series against No. 1 seeds Georgia, Arizona State and Arizona and against No. 2 seeds UCLA and Pepperdine.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma went 34-24 overall but just 9-17 in the Big 12. It failed to win a three-game series against a team that made the tournament field and won just three conference series in all. The Sooners also lost three of four at home to Washington State, which finished last in Oregon State's Pac-10. Oklahoma played well late in the year, grabbing league tournament wins against Texas A&M and Missouri before losing a late-inning heartbreaker to Texas, but one strong weekend can't overtake the résumé Oregon State posted.

2. Arizona the only #1 not hosting a regional. They said there was too many West Coast regionals, but I didn't hear any whining about all the regionals in the South. BS as well.
 
UCD going to have to beat Stanford and Pepperdine tomorrow, and then Pepperdine again on Monday to get a berth. Not looking good, but at least they're still alive.

 
Buster Posey with four homeruns in the two games today. He's pretty much carrying Mike Martin and the gag around his neck to the Supers.

 
I can't believe that we're almost through the first weekend and I haven't posted in this thread yet.

 
Texas needs to win tonight and tomorrow over Rice to advance, and they just went behind 6-4. Things aren't looking pretty.

Taking out the 2-0 team is very difficult. For those unfamiliar with the format, the two 1-1 teams play each other, and the loser is eliminated. The winner goes on to face the 2-0 team that same day, needing to win that game and one more to advance, whereas the 2-0 team need only win once.So the 1-1 teams playing each other is an elimination game, but you have a game immediately thereafter if you win, and then another game the next day should you win that. It makes for some interesting strategic decisions, and it rewards teams who have pitching depth. The schedule is so accelerated that you can't bring your #1 pitcher back at all, except maybe for a couple innings on two days' rest.

Interestingly, Texas held their ace (Chance Ruffin) for the Saturday game. They lost Friday, but not because of the pitching. Ruffin pitched Saturday, then came back and got the final out in the early game today. If they somehow pick up a miracle win tonight, it's Johnny Allstaff tomorrow.
