*** OFFICIAL 2008 PITTBURGH PIRATES THREAD *** (1 Viewer)

Doumit is on fire. :lmao: :lmao: :)

"In the three-game series, the Pirates catcher went 9-for-11 with four home runs, two doubles and seven RBIs to help the Pirates win two of three."

I know this won't last, but one can dream...

It really is a shame that they are wasting this year's offense. Third in the NL in runs, fifth in MLB. And yet here they are, 11 games out and under .500 yet again.

yeah, but it was a good week:

1) ian snell finally on the dl.

2) ended a 48-year losing streak to the yankees (probably the longest in the history of sports?)

3) pissed the yankees off big-time thursday by playing the extremely rare night game on a thursday at pnc (at least that is what it seems like), then delaying the game for 2.5 hours before the PPD. yankees have a day-night doubleheader today (friday) against the mets (why this is scheduled for friday and not saturday and sunday to avoid this is beyond me).

What a game!

I listened to the entire game on radio... absolutely amazing comeback!

OH... Pirates pitching sucks.

I am no longer a fan of baseball, thanks to the 1994 strike. Millionaires striking against Billionaires just totally turned me off. I used to do Rotisserie Baseball, but stopped immediately after this season. And despite my friends at the times best attempts to get me to go back, I didn't because of my new hatred for Professional Baseball.

But, I do still follow the Pittsburgh Pirates, being a local.

And I am sick to death of the Pittsburgh Pirates at this point. Their pitching is so pitiful, it shouldn't even be called Major League pitching. And I'm quite sure the wonderful outfield of Jason Bay, Nate McLouth, and Xavier Nady won't be together any longer than this season. So be prepared, Pirates fans, for the demise of one of the better offenses in the National League.

And I put the blame for the current state of the Pirates on the previous General Managers, particularly Dave Littlefield. Dave Littlefield believed in drafting pitching. Nice thought. But absolutely lousy in execution. How many more of the future Pirates pitchers will be beset with arm problems?!?!

So, Pittsburgh Pirates fans, be prepared for more years of losing. And you're welcome in advance Philadelphia Phillies and their fans for removing the stigma of having the most losing seasons in a row. The light at the end of the Pittsburgh Pirates tunnel IS AN ON-COMING TRAIN!!!

:jawdrop:

Nice little 4 game win streak to pull us back in, before ripping our hearts out again as they surely will do.

I'm now convinced that if they really want to win, they need to KEEP all of the offense. Pay them what they deserve. Most of those guys want to stay in Pittsburgh, so show them the money.

Do all you can to develop pitching. Trading proven offensive producers for unproven pitching isn't the answer, IMO. It's pretty risky. With a few pitching improvements, this team can contend. Ok, so they need a lot of pitching improvements, but why break up an offense that's so productive?

I am really hoping they keep Bay, Nady, etc. I wouldn't mind if they could find someone to play 1B for the 1st half of the year until LaRoche gets hot.

Your front-office is embarrassing.
Do those guys really all project to sucking?tabata is supposedly a good prospect, although I dont know why we would ask for another CF having McCutchin ready to contribute next season.George Kontos, 23, who has 103 strikeouts in 1071/3 inningsPhil Coke, 26, 9-4 with a 2.60 earned run average. Coke has struck out 109 and walked 38 in 1141/3 innings this season.Ohlendorf is 6 feet 4, 235 pounds and throws his fastball in the 97-mph.Clearly not the greatest deal for BOTH of our main trading commodities, but I dont know the other offers out there. I'm willing to give Huntington the benefit of the doubt at this point. This isnt as bad as the Aramis trade.

you're way overrating nady. he's having a career year. though considering jason christiansen netted brian giles, it would have been nice to get more for marte ... lol.

any thoughts on thursday's haul?

lot of nice prospects, but prospects have a tendency to not pan out. if just ONE of these guys turns into an all-star, i think it worked out well.

hansen will be a nice 8th inning guy to set up capps and help the SP.

laroche ... nice story playing with his brother and all, but not sure he is better than bautista and he surely won't be able to keep alvarez out of pittsburgh for long once he signs.

moss and morris don't know too much about ... never like seeing a pitcher who missed a year though.

Andy>AdamDodgers have never really given him a chance to play everyday. He might be able to move over to 2B also and the guy has just raked in the minors.

The Bucs are in year 13 of their 25-year rebuilding project. If Andy L is as promising as billed, why did LA commit to Dewitt instead?

Because they are idiots. Seriously. Ned Coletti is a moron.

I believe you. There's no reason they shouldn't be better.
