Thats what they would use their picks for. IMO you do not trade for a defensive player when 90% of your defense is horrid. They will have to build that defense through the draft over the next few years. McNabb is a nice bridge to appease the fans into what you hope is a starter in Kolb. That being said if I were the Broncos I would take a deal with quite a few draft picks before anything else.

Well yes, Denver will eventually need to address QB, but they're not going to get good value at the QB position because no one trades QBs in their prime if they can help it. If they want an older vet like McNabb, they can sign a free agent. If they want a young guy to develop like Kolb they can look to the draft. If they want to trade a star player for a star player they're going to need to look at another position. Well what makes more sense for Denver?Give up Cutler for:McNabb, Kolb, a 2ndorJulius Peppers (one disgruntled player for another), sign Jeff Garcia, develop Simms and maybe draft a rookie.or 1st, 3rd, sign Garcia and address defense and QB in the draft.I'd have to think its either of the last two...

Thats what they would use their picks for. IMO you do not trade for a defensive player when 90% of your defense is horrid. They will have to build that defense through the draft over the next few years. McNabb is a nice bridge to appease the fans into what you hope is a starter in Kolb.

You have to start building that defense somewhere. And lets face it, a lot of defense is about attitude. So maybe you go out and sign an emotional leader <cough> Brian Dawkins <cough> to kick the butts of you're underperforming players and then you draft/acquire some good young talent and you car turn that defense around in a hurry.But I'll agree with you, that I think they're most likely to go after draft picks. They might pick up a guy like Kellen Clemens + picks (2nd and 3/4 maybe) but I definately dont see them trying to get a veteran QB in exchange for Cutler

I really think the Eagles are in a great position right now. I can understand some doubt concerning their offensive line but they are really set. Look:

LT Herremans will play here (even if he was a RT in college he is versatile enough to succeed here)

LG Cole (is developing nicely and with a full camp at the position will thrive)

C Jackson (he did badly without Shawn Andrews and Andrews HAS to play this season).

RG Shawn Andrews (the signing of his brother will solve his depression problems. Also, a mid-first rounder who doesn't play for two years on his rookie contract is bust-worthy. He will play this year.)

RT Stacy Andrews (I think that he will be ready for the season simply because a FO doesn't sign players to big contracts unless they can play or they have a contingency plan.)

In terms of other things:

A) The Weaver deal is a very good deal and really helps the entire offense out. Any OL inconsistency can be helped with his blocking, help the passing game by adding another weapon that can free Westbrook easier, convert those short yardage situation, et al. I think Eckel could be used as a blocking tight end or even block for Weaver when he is in at TB (which I can see definitely happening.

B) I haven't given up on Hunt yet. Hunt just hasn't learned how to not get jacked up every time he touches the ball (everytime I see him with the ball it is followed by him getting owned).

C) Concerning the draft:

--The 28th pick is probably going to get traded for a later first day pick in this draft and a future first day pick. That is what always happens.

--I think Percy Harvin could go at 20. He can play running back and wide receiver. Although he isn't big and physical, a physical tight end can be drafted later to help with red-zone difficulties.

--If the Eagles make any big moves (Edwards, Boldin) it will happen on draft day. Braylon Edwards is probably worth that 28th pick and maybe a couple of second day picks which is not a bad deal IMO.

--The eagles will probably consolidate at least two or three of their later picks into a better pick. I think they will get their OL pick there although I don't see him getting starts this year (barring injuries).

Just a comment on Dawkins. When I found out he got a five year deal the first thing that came to mind was that he could play a year or two at FS and once his athletism gets even worse could play at Linebacker. He doesn't have the size but it will get to the point that it is all he can do yet still be effective.

yeah, that's exactly what i meant. i personally think the birds should have traded for Anquan AND Braylon, resigned Dawk, Snatched up Plax, snagged D Ward, paid up for Fat Albert, and managed to get Gonzo too.I also think its just brilliant how to make your argument (talking to you, None-more-blick), you bring up one of the few teams who has made less noise than the birds this off season. Reports are that Eagles are working out Heyward-Bey WR from Maryland. This really surprises me. The last 10 years the Eagles have needed a #1 WR. Now they have a decent group here (Best since TO years). When I look at the potential players to be available in the range the Eagles will pick I would think they would be able to get their RB and a OT or TE. Just seems odd.

In your opinion, how would you rank the offseason moves by the eagles, giants and cowboys? You can throw the skins in there too if you want, though history probably tells us how that will turn out.

Some teams use Private Workouts and visits as a Red Herring to throw off others to their true intentions. Philly would play that game often and hide what they are doing to everybody except a select few. Bringing in Andre Smith of 'Bama is a good idea. He really hurt his stock and could really explain his situation making him a valuable pick later in the 1st. They have been known to make efforts for talented but immature OL and believe the risk is not outweighed by the reward.

There are plenty of options for them to make moves and nice picks. Value is something IMO they look at differently than the averatge NFL fan (and FF junkie).

They were all over Brian Westbrook, for example and many folks predicted we would draft him higher than others had him pegged [and we did], and on the bust side I recall when we had McCoy come in for a workout and everyone was shocked [he wasn't invited to the Combine] and that led to speculation he was on the rise, and we eventually wasted a 1st day pick on the stiff clown.

If not already mentioned, Shawn Andrews is not playing on his rookie contract. We locked him up 2nd year of his deal IIRC, for long term

I don't care what he calls himself, I'll take him. He would be an instant upgrade to the entire offense. That being said I don't think they will be willing to give up what the Bengals will be asking. If you had to get 1 RB, 1 OT and 1 WR with those picks, I would greatly prefer Moreno at 21, Peters for 28 and a rookie WR at 53...

1. its too late for him to change his name back for jersey's. that was the issue from last season2. he would sell a lot of jerseys in Phi. Still the 3rd biggest jersey market IIRC

Sure, but Peters is under contract for another 2 years and isn't afraid to make a lot of noise when he's unhappy. Just doesn't strike me as the kind of guy we're going to line up to break the bank for, particularly when Andy has always done a great job of keeping the O-line intact with solid depth. No reason we don't keep it a priority in the draft and move on.

You can forget about Oklahoma State's Brandon Pettigrew, he won't be an Eagle but I'm feeling better every day about this year's group of TE's. I'd like to see the Birds take two of them so we can say good-bye to Matt Schobel.

The Eagles need more than one tight end who is a good blocker. Brent Celek is trying to improve his blocking but there's no telling how much success he's going to have.

You need more than one tight end who can block in order to run your goalline and short yardage formations. That's why I want to see the Eagles draft two tight ends and get rid of Schobel, who can't block or run.

Thankfully, this draft is deep at the tight end position.

Jared Cook of South Carolina and Cornelius Ingram of Florida are guys who Reid would love to bring in because they can run. They're both better pass receivers than they are blockers.

Cook ran the fastest forty-yard dash by a tight end at this year’s combine. Ingram is just as fast even though he's coming off of a knee surgery.

The problem with these guys is the fact that they can’t block or haven't proved that they can. They would be a good gets for the Birds but the Eagles are in desperate needs of some blocking tight ends.

The Birds must discern whether these guys have the mean streak needed to handle tough defensive ends and linebackers.

I would rather see them grab Shawn Nelson of Southern Mississippi. He’s not as fast but he's still a 4.6 guy. He’s big at 6’5” 247 and he can block. It seems that he likes to block which is vital to the Birds running game.

They can get him in the second round.

The guy which I want to see them grab is North Carolina tight end Richard Quinn . This guy is big and he can block. I'm told his stock is rising because there aren't too many tight ends in this group who can both block and catch the football.

Quinn is 6'4" and he weighs a healthy 264 pounds. He ran a 4.76 forty-yard dash, so he's not a burner.

He caught only seven passes in his senior season because the Tar Heels ran a three wide receiver set. They threw the ball almost exclusively to the wide out because they had some good ones.

He did a good job of running routes and catching the ball in his workouts, so I think he can do what the Birds need him to do in that area. I'd like to see the Birds grab him.

I think they can get him in the fourth or fifth round.

One thing to point out is that Banner has said that there's no way they can possibly spend all the $ they have under the cap.Now with getting Peters, they could start to get there (and they have to get to 86% I think).

Yeah, JetMaxx was the Eagles rep for this one. He ended up with Vontae Davis, Peters (via trade) and one of the 'big 3' RB's with his first three Picks. I'd be estatic if that really happened.
