Yet they still signed him and guaranteed him 10 milly. Most in the shark pool with no 1st hand knowledge of the knee could have predicted what a bad move it was at the time.bengals didnt operate on bryant afaict. his knee never recovered from the surgery in 09 preseason. the bucs seemed to rush him back too early and forced him to play throughout the season.
Maybe, do they work for Wellington Sports in cincy? They looked at my knee a couple years back...Anyhow, one of two things happened:
1) The doctors gave a pass on Bryant's knee (or at least too rosy a prognosis) when they shouldn't have and the Bengals acted on that misdiagnosis.
2) The doctors warned the Bengals about the knee but Mikey Boy ignored the advice and signed him anyway.
It seems like the first scenario might be closer to the truth - especially when considering he was cleared for that one practice (massive mistake) and some of the other things that have been said about the med staff in the past. That doesn't necessarily clear Mikey Boy as maybe he got a sweetheart deal for the services of these guys and didn't want to spend more money for someone of a higher pedigree.
They did hire new doctors btw, not sure what the background is of them however. Maybe one of the FBGs had a knee done by one of the new guys?![]()
Reedy reported that Reggie Kelly is probably not coming back. This is too bad and I'd like to see him end up as a coach if that's the case (assuming he doesn't catch on elsewhere as a player of course).
According to Hobson it looks like the Bengals are not going to use the franchise tag on J Jo (or Benson, but I didn't think it was realistic that they would use it on Ced). It seems they are gambling that they can get a lower price under the new CBA. I'm pretty nervous about this game of poker. Obviously CB would way up on the needs list if we lost Joseph :(

I don't want a QB in the 1st. I think one will fall to the 2nd. The problem though is that everyone knows the Bengals will take a QB in the 2nd and someone might trade up to grab one in the early 2nd. I can't see Mikey don't anything to stop that.I know the Bengals won't do it but I'd rather see them grab a defensive player in the 1st. There isn't anyone who will instantly fix the offense at 1.04 so they might as well build a stronger defense.Bump as we're getting to draft week. I really hope we hold off on drafting a WR. I think if Gabbert is there at 4, I wouldn't mind us taking him. In a perfect world, somebody likes him or another QB better and we are able to trade back to like the late teens and get Dalton or Ponder. My gut says, though, that Mikey Boy will insist on Green which would be a mistake IMO. It stinks that Dalton and Ponder both improved their stock probably too much to last until the top of round 2. The nightmare of course would be Green at #4 and then getting Mallet at #35 - I wouldn't like that at all.Any other Bengal Brothers and Sisters have any thoughts?-QG
I don't have a problem with picking Peterson, but I think he ends up at safety. He's only 20 and already a beast. His filling out years are still ahead of him... 230lb corner?'QuizGuy66 said:I'm with you on the defensive desire with the pick. If he ended up at Safety (and we somehow kept JJ) I'd be down with that. A nice athletic secondary would be a big boost.I know that last year we were all so predictable with Gresham, but I really have a funny feeling that we will get a curve ball this year and go either defense with Peterson or even do something incredible like actually trade down.If they actually let teams trade players in the hours before this draft, things may suddenly get interestingI don't have a problem with picking Peterson, but I think he ends up at safety. but I'm sure Mikey Boy will rain on that parade.I must be the only person that thinks that WR is way down on our list of priorities - and I'm coming at it from the perspective that Ocho is gone. I really think the 3 kids are the deal and the way we should go. Get a guy later and let him develop slowly. Why add a high profile WR who's bound to give us a diva at the position yet again. One thing's for sure - we won't be boring.-QGThis is what scares me as a fan. We know how this team operates. Picking Peterson gives them a reason to let JJO walk. Even if they keep him, what a strange team makeup. You could argue our best 3 playeres would all be CBs or at least DBs.If he ended up at Safety (and we somehow kept JJ) I'd be down with that. Actually anyone with experience not named Palmer playing a year or so in front of Dalton is a good thing IMO. Assuming we get this guy we'll have the bonus of not criminally giving away a game to him for like the 100th time. I'm a little contrary in that absent a decent price I'd just as soon see Palmer pout and stay home and file the papers. Let me wait a year and get traded. If we can get like a 2nd round pick for him, I say go to town, but Mikey doesn't roll like that.DWill - I honestly think this is Mets-style lip-service pretend interest. That is they called, found out DWill's price tag and said "Moving On"J Jo - I hope to hell they really are doing everything to sign him. They have to spend the money and the guy is totally worth it. They need to lock him up sooner than later, preferably while Asomugha is still unsigned.Gallery - We need a guard since they totally and stupidly botched things up with Mathis. Gallery is capable but this smells like an Antonio Bryant deal waiting to happen - overpay him and he gets hurt. Scares me.Benson - we have to be the entire market for him at this point. Obviously he fits but the legal stuff is more than a little trivial at this point. If we could get a guy who can be the every down guy I'd probably prefer him to Benson. Brandon Jackson is not that answer. If Benson's legal stuff is cleared up he's probably the best alternative we can realistically get. Wouldn't mind see us look at Snelling. Keeping Fanane and Brandon Johnson would be fine. I wouldn't mind seeing a replacement for Dhani if that's what they choose to do. Perhaps Muckleroy is ready?Sorgi doesn't excite me one bit. Gradkowski at least knows Gruden's system inside and out. I'd be okay with him as a stopgap.Really would rather see Leonard resigned than Brandon Jackson.-QGHobson says the initial targets are DWill, JJo, Gallery, Benson as well as some minor names of our own like Fanene and Brandon Johnson. Gradkowski and Sorgi according to other reports. Sounds like we may be in a bidding war with Detroit for JJo.I guess this means the end for Dhani that he isn't on this list. Also, if Fanene is coming back, Odom has to be cut right?Things finally starting to take shape a LITTLE bit.
Hope he's gone one way or the other. Can't believe they want him in camp. *sigh*-QGUntil MB gives up control of football decisions the Bengals will continue to suck. It will be interesting to see what happens with 85 since he is rambling on about about "honoring a committment". We'll see whether it's a one way or two way street.
Won't the Carson Palmer situation make up for Ocho in the distraction department?Seems the most successful franchises have the attitude 'if you don't want to be here, then we don't want you.' I can't recall these kinds of standoffs benefiting the team. Let him go or trade him, and move on to building a franchise that's at the top of player's wish list to play for.I like the Ocho trade. Mainly because I think our receiver corps will be fine without him, there will be no distraction, and hopefully it's another $3.5m that they can give to JoJo.Think the locker room atmosphere is going to improve this year at least even if it takes a couple years for it to show up on the field.-QG
Carson's not gonna be in the locker room, so actually I don't think he'll be a distraction.-QGWon't the Carson Palmer situation make up for Ocho in the distraction department?Seems the most successful franchises have the attitude 'if you don't want to be here, then we don't want you.' dude, bangals are a lock for nhamdi. faith, brother.
More like a lock for Nate Clements at too many $ or something similar.-QGhaha, we have a better chance of Mikey inventing a cloning machine and bringing us a mid 90's Deion Sanders.'cvnpoka said:dude, bangals are a lock for nhamdi. faith, brother.
I have to say as a long-time Bengals fan (that grew up elsewhere), the negative of this fan base is not to be underestimated! It was the one thing that struck me when I went to the playoff game in '09. I do agree that it is a fair point to consider whether it would be worth it to have 1/6 of the salary cap tied up in just 2 CBS ($10m + $10m for Hall presumably). I've been think about doing a generic pole on this subject in facti dunno, lots of insta negativity. thats a huge deal for joseph and i think they are better off without that investment.
-QGFunny thing is that I think if we win the LHUCKStakes, er Luckstakes there's an excellent chance that we deal away that pick. Given the new CBA and the fact that it makes the contracts much more reasonable, a huge haul could be expected to be had.-QGHi Andy Dalton... meet Andrew Luck.![]()
Bet a good chunk of that goes to extending guys they already have. For example Leon Hall makes just a hair over $3 million this year.Given the contract Joseph got and the fact they preferred Hall it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't get a deal in that $9m-$10m range. That's $7m right there. They'll hold back $ for a Carson power play just in case and then past week 10 they'll dump that $ into extending others.Obviously it won't be just that, but I'm saying that I wouldn't be surprised if a good chunk of that $49m is already earmarked.-QGAntwan Odom releasedSirius Reporting the release of Odom, which is not at all surprising given Michael Johnson and and the kid from Florida-Dunlap.....What is surprising, is they are now reportedly 49 million under the cap.Who are they gonna spend 90% of their cap on? I have never seen a team mismanage rosters and and moneymore than the Bengals
