#askhartnell on twitter. It's been fantastic.

Lucic fighting in a Couver bar on video this weekend.

Thornton was so sorry for what he did he's appealing his suspension.
He's appealing the 15 games, not the suspension itself.
Ya. What I said.
It's possible to think that Thornton deserved to get a sizeable suspension, and still believe that 15 games was too much.
Torres got 21 games reduced from 25 for his hit on Hossa. I think what Thornton did is worse than what Torres did. Torres' was a dirty hit to the head during play. Thornton's was a cheap, bush league move after the whistle that is just a hair away from what Bertuzzi did IMO. 15 was a gift and if he was at all sincere about his regret he should have taken it like a man.

I think 15 games was the minimum. Appealing makes him look bad and out of touch.

You don't understand how important Zetterberg is until he's gone for three weeks. As much as I love Datsyuk, Zetterberg is the backbone of the franchise. Z, Datsyuk, Howard, Helm, Dekeyser and Alfie all have/will miss significant time this year.

Stephen Weiss can stay out until March, he's a ####### disaster.

it's about $, lots at stake for him

Nice win for the Pens last night. They beat the Leafs while their top 4 defensemen were out, along with Malkin. Their defensemen included 1 guy with less than a year experience, and the rest were baby Pens from the minors. Keep it rolling guys!

Toronto should be ashamed.

I swear, Jaroslav Halak is two different hockey players. When he's great, he's great. But when he's bad...hoy vey. He just got torched for three goals in barely over a period against the Sharks, and just has had a bad run in general.

Ugh. If Halak were more consistent, he'd be in the upper echelon of the game. Instead, he's in a timeshare with Elliott.

(yes Brasky, I'm blaming Halak.)

Nyquist gone for ten days plus, Franzen also out tonight. :lmao:

Wilson from the Caps almost broke B Schenn's neck on a boarding/charge. It was was a dirty hit but I feel for Wilson because he's an honest hockey player.

Oates is ####### delusional, right?

Oates on Wilsons hit: Hes a big strong guy, he hit him hard, yeah. To me its a clean hit. I dont even think its a penalty. At all.

Yes but Schenn could have protected himself better. Saw the hit coming and turned into the boards. Wilson has to be more responsible when a guy is that close to the boards.

The honest hockey player comment was directed at some of the B's fans and media who are defending Thornton.

Anybody catch the first 24/7 episode on HBO featuring the Wings and Leafs? Great series.

It's cool how Datsyuk's own teammates speak of him with such awe.

nope. nobody saw it.
Awesome. Can't wait until you have a question which I have an answer to. I'll be just as much of a knob.
:lmao:

I brought it up in this thread on Saturday night while I was watching. Nobody replied to me either.

Why so sensitive?

nothing personal. every single time I see someone start a thread or ask a question like that, that's the first response that comes to my head.

"anyone watch this?"

"nope. you were the only one".

dunno. just me I guess.

I guess nobody else cared enough about the show to discuss it. I loved it.

I'm not a Flyer fan or a Cap fan but I see that hit on Schenn as a result of Shenn heading behind the net and turning milliseconds before Wilson hits him. There was, IMO, nothing dirty about the hit. If Schenn doesn't turn his body it's still going to be a big hit due to the speed of Wilson coming at him but at most it's a charging penalty. I don't think he deserves any suspension. Hell, I'm a Habs homer and the elbow Emelin clipped Downey? with was worse and he didn't even get a call from Shanny. or last night, Marchand hits Monahan into the boards. He's looking directly at Monahan's numbers the whole time and still drives him into the boards. That's a dirty play.

Not just you

Has anyone ever been to Guam?

No! As a matter of fact, I have no idea why they even waste the ink putting it on the map.

The possibility of Guam tipping over makes it far too dangerous to visit.

Agreed. If anything, it was a charging penalty, but Schenn was still facing forward the second before Wilson hit him. Schenn turning away at the last second is why he went head first into the boards.

@jprutherford: BREAKING: #stlblues and Alexander Steen agree in principle to 3-year, $17.4 million contract extension ($5.8 AAV)
Sweet.

Hey Detroit Homers,

Have any of you ever had tickets that allowed you into the Olympia Club?

I just got 4 tix to see St Louis in Jan 8 rows from the glass, and Olympia entrance is included.

I will have my 2 boys and my nephew. Can kids go in there? Do players (maybe scratched players) ever go in there? Cost for dinner?

Any and all info is very appreciated

He was called for charging. It was absolutely charging but I do agree it was worse by Schenn turning

That could be a steal if he keeps his production up esp with the cap going up!

Guy has a career shooting percentage of 9.9% while his shooting percentage over the first 33 games this season is 19.6%. Imo it's a pretty safe bet that he won't keep this production up. Pretty surprised the Blues would sign him now considering he most likely has no where to go but down from here, especially since he hasn't exactly been a pillar of health in his career. Still, I think he's a damn good player who can play in any situation, so I guess there are worse ways to overspend your money.

I guess the more prudent move would have been to let him walk in the offseason, have another team give him more money/years and have him continue to have a shooting percentage in the upper teens.

If he keeps up this pace, he's worth a lot more than $5.8 mil per. It's a slight gamble, but one worth taking, IMO.

Yes if he keeps this pace he's definitely worth a lot more than $5.8mil, but I see little reason to believe that to be a likely outcome, specifically a player who's going on 30 years old increasing on his career shooting percentage by 6+% on a consistent basis.

Though even if the gamble fails, which I expect it will, it's not like you're left with ####, you still got a player who can play multiple positions in all situations who can get shots on net, so I'd say he's got a pretty high floor.

He won't keep up his scoring pace. In fact he's already falling off. Not sure this is the best timing to re-sign a player - after what will probably be a half season career outlier. But as someone mentioned already Steen has value in his overall game, not just his scoring ability. Not the worst contract ever, but I can't help but wonder if the Blues could have signed him cheaper at a different time.

The timing may be interesting, but even if he halves his offensive output the rest of the way, he'll be a proven goalscorer who is more than just a goalscorer hitting the FA market before he's in his 30s. I'm good with them locking him up. He's a good player to have around for a variety of reasons, not just his goal scoring.

Don't forget it may seem more than his value right now but wait till next year when the cap goes up and his deal will look great.
