***Official 2013/2014 NHL Regular Season Thread*** (1 Viewer)

@StapeNewsday: #Isles have traded Thomas Vanek, source says. Waiting to hear where and what's coming back.
Sounds like it could be the Ducks

#Isles send Vanek to Canadiens.

Return is believed to be a 2014 2nd round pick and a prospect.
Genius is a word that shouldn't get tossed around lightly and in Garth Snows case it should still remain this way

I, sadly, have not been following hockey this year like I have in the past. But I still love it.

That said, can someone explain to me why the Flyers would trade Meszaros to the Bruins for a 3rd round pick?

Was this a cap space thing?

To make room for Macdonald that they acquired yesterday and they weren't going to re-sign him this offseason.

OK. That makes sense. I'm happy with our team going forward. Not thrilled. But I have high hopes for them. Especially when you think about how the season started.

Next to pack his bags as GM is McPhail.
:goodposting:

It's incomprehensible that McPhail can watch the abomination that is his defense and somehow conclude goalie is the problem. I hated the Forsberg-Erat deal last year, and feel like GM's been chasing it ever since.

Ugh. I don't even know who else was involved in the trade, and I already hate it - because GOALIE IS NOT THE ISSUE.

Didn't know you were a fan of the OnB Sheik.

Yea my hopes are tempered, their D isn't too good. Unless Mason stands on his head I can't see them doing much damage in the playoffs if they get in. Nice turnaround from the start for sure, they're just too inconsistent. Continually signing guys like Andrew Macdonald to 5m/yr contracts is what got them in trouble with the D to begin with, but they just keep towing that same old line. We have the most expensive and underperforming D in the league.

I don't understand his thinking at all with his D.It's flat out terrible and has been for a while now and all he can do is throw new goalies at the situation as if it's some magic potion that cures all.

Get some NHL quality D men in the system past the top 3 and then work on team D,that's a great start.

In that Philly debacle this weekend, the Caps were out shot attempted 61-21 after the 1st period. Holtby played great - was so clearly not the problem.

I know the Isles are going to get Raked.... And I'm all for it, and Killing Garth Snow for any change.

BUT.... The guy hung his Ballz out there to try to secure a top talent and that line with Tavares looked great..

They tried till the end to deal with Vanek, upping offers....

IMO, the biggest issue isn't Snow... It's ownership. If you don't have your team Salary at or near where contenders are then it's like comparing the past 20 years of the NY Yankees to the Royals....

Talk was they weren't keeping Moulson either so, Bottom line they lost a 1st round pick next year...... meh...

In the end they are still a young team with talent that either needs to Spend Big or Place Blame Squarly on Ownership.

Not sure what OnB stands for, but yeah, I've been a Flyers fan since about the '87 season. Somewhere around that era. Poulin, Sutter, Kerr, Sinasalo, Dave Brown, Tocchett, Berube, Eklund and Lindburgh. Loved those guys. When I moved to Texas, it became hard to really follow the NHL, so my knowledge of the players faded. I still love the Flyers and watch them as much as I can. But I still don't know all of the players. It's kind of sad. People ask if I follow hockey and I tell them I love it, but then they start talking about other teams and I'm like a deer in headlights.

I just want them to make the playoffs this year. Hockey is definitely the sport where all it takes is one team to get hot and anything can happen.

In the NHL - if you are a goalie chances are you are on the move. Has to be a record on goalie movement this week.

I'm guessing OnB stands for Orange and Black.

Final deal

Halak deal ends up being he and a third-rounder to Washington for Klesla and Neuvirth.

Weird fact of the day, heard on HNiC radio:

The last time the Rangers traded a captain was 2003. Mark Messier to the Sharks for a 4th-round pick. That 4th-round pick became... Ryan Callahan.

:tinfoilhat:

Detroit shutting Datsyuk down for 3 weeks, but no surgery needed. Helm also shut down for a few days.

What bad timing with Datsyuk and Zetty out for the big stretch run.

23 looks in jeopardy
