***Official 2013 NLDS Cardinals v Pirates thread*** (2 Viewers)

Did Clint borrow Dusty Baker's coaching manual last night? I like Hurdle a lot but what was he thinking letting Burnett get pummelled like that?

You're kidding, right? You don't win playoff series by having hangover games.
Lance Lynn is pitching tomorrow, so if it is a hangover, good time to bounce back.
Lynn is pitching today...
:goodposting:

Brady has been too busy waffling on whether he wants to see the Pirates beat his Cards or not that he has lost track of when the games are. For shame.

Not feeling too bad if the Pirates win does not = wanting the Pirates to win.

For shame indeed.

Rationalize it away however you need to, GB. I'm praying to Stan for you.

:lmao:

Pray away. BTW, I met Mike Ditka yesterday and, even though he grew up in Pittsburgh, he grew up a Cardinals fan because of Stan Musial.

If they're good enough for Iron Mike...

While I dont recall it ever happening that early in the game with Burnett, usually more the 5th-6th inning, there has been at least a handful of starts he's had since the All Star break where he was clearly done and Hurdle just left him out on the mound to die. Not surprised to see it again but you'd think he learn his lesson at some point.

That's not to say Wacha's a slam dunk. He has road concerns, too, though I actually worry more about what pitchers seem to do the game after throwing a no-hitter these days. Apart from the CO start, he looked awfully good after coming back up.

Yeah, I wasn't even saying you were wrong to leave him off. More just a statement to how difficult it is to actually leave him out of the rotation. That said, you can't argue with the 3 guys starting. If anything, I would have put in Miller today over Lynn. You can't sit Kelly or Wacha right now.

I'm not sure if having this tough of a decision is a good thing or a bad thing yet. Today will kind of let us know.

I thought this was a slam dunk. Lynn in the long relief role would have been the way to go imo. Though he did get it back together a little down the stretch. If he struggles to find the plate today, I hope MM doesn't hesitate to yank him for Miller.

Nice job by Cole not getting into trouble after walking Carpenter. I say bring him back out for the for the 7th inning unless it gets to him in the order.

Who starts game 5 now if needed? I think Hurdle will go Burnett but I'd be happy with Cole.
I want Cole out there. He's only given up more than 2 runs once since August 8th, and is 5-0 in his last 6 starts. Im also not worried about him being a rookie because dude has icewater in his veins.

In this same time frame, Burnett has given up 4+ runs in 6 starts.

+ 1 for Cole with Burnett in relief.....

So every single game in the series is a day game. All the Cards starters are righties. This thing si set up for Pedro to blow up. He needs to be moved up to cleanup.

Burnett is a leader of the team. I really don't think you can do this. I am really hoping we don't see game 5. If we do, I don't really like the Pirates chances either way.

I don't care if he's a leader of the team. The Cards couldn't touch Cole and quite frankly not many teams have in the past month. His stuff is electric and he seems to be able to handle pressure. I think Cole gives them the best shot in a game 5 situation on the road. I agree that Hurdle will probably go with Burnett though. I pray it doesn't get to that because Burnett in St Louis scares the crap out of me.

Yeah, I say #### leadership. If Burnett wanted the chance to be on the mound in Game 5 if it gets to that point, he shouldn't have given up 7 runs in 2 innings. He's probably not coming back next year anyway, so why not show you have confidence in your young stud who has earned that right.

I consider this a must win game for the Bucs. I can't see them winning 2 in a row with Morton on the mound in one game and having to face Wainright in the other.

Couldn't agree more, cole has been on. I just don't trust burnett right now.
