***Official 2013 NLDS Cardinals v Pirates thread*** (1 Viewer)

Man this has been the flukiest inning I have seen in a long time. Two easy outs are not.

This team really loves to hit on the first pitch.

Nice call for the home team, now i hate the cardinals even more if thats possible. No wait i hate the idiot ump that has a couple grand on the game

I can't help myself. I keep thinking about what a WS lineup would look like if Craig could make it back.
If Craig plays, who sits? My guess would be Adams...who just hit a very clutch homer.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Beltran this offseason. He's a FA and Holliday is locked in LF, Craig is locked in at 1B or RF, and you have Adams, who has proven he deserves to start.

In the AL park, Adams would DH.

I don't think you worry about Beltran playing center for, at most, 7 games. Jay sits

Even better than mine since I didn't take into account the AL parks.. Would that be 3 or 4 games in AL Park?

Does anyone remember who won the All Star game?

And Beltran has said he wants to come back, but he won't take a lesser role. And you have to think Jay will sit for Taveras. Should be a trade for a real SS in there somewhere.

True. But, in a couple years, Holliday will be an AL guy too.

My thoughts exactly. Cleveland has a hole at 1B and they have Assdribble Cabrera.

Just saying.

Yeah, the Red Sox

This series could easily have gone to the Pirates. Congrats Pittsburgh on a great season and it's good to see you guys among the cream of the crop again. You guys will be back next year.

That said... :pickle:

Congrats Cards fans. Im not so sure we'll be back next year, but if we are, we still will likely have to go thru Waino/Wacha/Kelly or Kershaw/Greinke. This was our chance. Of course I have hopes for next year, but this year just felt like it had something special.

I didnt see it posted by fans of either team, but I thought pulling Cole after 5 innings was a horrible management move. I like Hurdle, but that just screamed like we need a run. If we had Cole out there past that, I could honestly see the game being 2-1 going into the 9th. Awful management.

I was surprised they didn't call the pinch hitter back when Barmes reached base

Not to be Debbie downer but I tend to agree that I'm not sure will "be back" next season. I think they'll still be competitive but likely not a playoff team. They had a lot of things go right this season:

1. Burnett was very good again

2. Liriano had a comeback season of the ages

3. Melancon and Grilli were damn near perfect for most of the season

4. Locke was very good in the first half

5. Morton was even pretty good

6. Their one star player remained healthy

7. The Nats had a horrible first half of the season

8. The Reds Never quite gelled despite all the talent

9. Byrd was a great acquisition

Next year they lose Burnett and can we count on Liriano to remain a stud and the bullpen to be as dominant? I doubt Byrd will be back. Who will replace Burnett's productivity? I doubt they make the playoffs next year but in 2015 I think they'll be good again. The good thing is they seem to have a GM who knows what the #### he's doing.

The problem is that Jones stinks. At least with the pitcher batting, you get a sac. With Jones batting, it's a guaranteed out (likely on 1 or 2 pitches) with a high probability of a double play.

Hey Kenny Powers and all the other Pirate Fans here - so glad you got a great run this year - welcome back from baseball purgatory. I want to say you're going to be great in the future - but since you are in the same division - I hope it's always a game or two behind the Cardinals. You have a heck of a bullpen and some great new young starters - maybe you can get another year out of Liriano and Burnett. They were some great rehab jobs.

Tonight was another magnificent performance from Wainwright - and some real awesome at bats from the like of John Jay - and Mr October David Freese. This team is turning into a special one in Cardinal history - they had to really work all year to stay at the top and hold the Pirates and Reds at bay. Every night the Cardinals would get a win - Pirates were there. Every night Pirates would win - the Cards would rally for a clutch win.

Now lets go get the Dodgers!

Definitely this. Pirates had a magnificent year and it was an accomplishment to hold them off for the division let alone this series. Had they pulled out the win, I'd have been rooting for them the rest of the way for sure. Certainly wouldn't mind a rematch next year and hope it happens.
