Judge Smails

Footballguy
Friday is the appetizer with 4 BC races, and then Saturday is the motherlode with 9. I'm not going this year. Will play from home after TVG account got $1800 fatter with a nice tri at Delta Downs of all places while bored last weekend watching football.

Couple things I'll be watching:

1) Dirt races early on Friday. Last year at Santa Anita it was absolute concrete on Day 1 and speed dominated. Could not close. They might have sealed it again as there's a 30-40% chance of some rain. If so, you want a horse in the first flight.

2) Euros on grass. One could make money many years just by boxing all the Euro's in exactas and tri's. The West Coast grass horses just suck. Many times New York based horses don't ship as well to the West Coast. Euros will dominate. Love Dank in the Filly/Mare race.

3) Shared Belief vs. California Chrome and Tonalist in the Classic. Really believe this is a 3 horse race. Bayern probably doesn't want to go 1 1/4, and Moreno will assure a fast pace. California Chrome is drawn outside, is working great, and LOVES SA. I think this will be one of the all-time classics. Chrome gets the lead, opens up, and Shared Belief and Tonalist come flying. I do think Shared Belief is the best horse and Mike Smith rides him with Zenyatta-like confidence. Maybe too much confidence. Either way, it should be an incredible stretch run with these 3.

Hopefully some of my FFA brethren will hit for some nice scores.....

Is TVG the preferred online wagering site? Is it quick to open an account and easy to actually get paid from if you win? I'm going to be home watching these races all day tomorrow and unable to get to my usual simulcast spot (dog track) so I was thinking about throwing a few bucks into an account there.

I use TVG. Used to NOT be the best as they charged .25 per wager, charged for access to live video, etc. They don't anymore. So they are OK. I really should be on DRF Bets (XPressBet) to get free racing forms. TVG is easy, and they do pay quickly. I do direct deposit into my account

I'm really wanting to find a way to play Divine Oath in the 4th on the undercard Pletcher/Castellano, has shipped and ran well on many tracks, likes 1 1/8, learned to rate, etc. Also drawn well with 4. I think he sits a good trip. Question is if he's good enough with no Beyer's in the 90's. 9/2 but price may go up. I'll key him with Ring Weekend and Enterprising. I think the 2 closers who could get in the tri's/supers are Patriots Rule and Talco.

Thanks, man. I really only play the big events usually, would be nice to have the ability to bet from home rather than having to drive to/from the dog track or jai alai arena every time.

Uneventful first day. Just treaded water. Had Untapable and threw out Close Hatches trying to hit a bigger exotic. Handicapping now for Day 2 - rains coming down in So Cal - wouldn't think it will do much to the track though.

My main opinions after handicapping Saturday's card:

1) My big play of the day will be Rich Tapestry in the Sprint (race 10). Any horse that passes Goldencents to win is good enough for me. Actually is drawn better in this race from post 6 and I think his jockey/trainer combo will keep his price fair. 5-1 morning line, don't think he'll go off above 3-1, maybe 7/2. I think he wins by a length or two and I will be loading up to win.

2) Bobby's Kitten will be FLYING in the stretch in the Turf Sprint (race 7). Chad Brown .56 with route/sprint move, and the horse raced well on SA in the Juvenile Mile in last year's BC, leading all the way only to finish 3rd. 10-1 morning line. this will be a grab bag (though I like the 13 and 14 to be in the tri) so with his price I'll just load up win and place.

3) I give Puca a big shot in the Juv Fillies (4th). 6-1 ML, Mott great with fillies, best work out of 96, won her maiden by 16.

That's it from the Judge. Good luck all!

Twinspires vs. TVG vs. Xpressbet. Any opinions? I read a bunch online but I really only trust opinions expressed here. TIA

I like that they have Bo Derek as some sort of ambassador for horse racing. The old mare looks pretty decent for 57.

I've always used xpressbet, but they're probably all pretty similar

when you first sign up for one of them there might be some 50 bux sign on bonus, or whatever deals they run, that you can maybe use to bet with, otherwise you might have to deposit money using a cc.

I think setting up direct deposit from your bank acct requires mailing in some paperwork, but maybe it's different now.

I prefer TwinSpires

Have used Xpressbet to get some promos but Spires is my normal outlet

I have spires linked to my savings account but I believe there was some paperwork needed to be sent in

Can't remember how I funded Xpress...I don't remember having to send anything in though

Looks like xpressbet has the best bonus but naturally they all require you to play the bonus credits within 15 or 30 days, which it's unlikely I will do now. However, come triple crown season, I will. So I'm thinking about NOT opening a new account with xpressbet so that I can save that new account bonus for May. That's assuming that these bonuses are fairly consistent year to year though.

Maybe I'll use twinspires today since their bonus requires playing 500 in a month which I'll probably never do. I can fund it through a debit card instantly though, correct?

I think they're always offering some sort of new player bonus, especially around big races
Seems so. Xpressbet requires by far the least amount of wagering to cash the bonus, an amount of play I'll easily hit in May, I just have to hope they have the same or similar minimums when TC season rolls around.

0 for the day so far. Riding Dank here over the 2,5,and 10 in chalky exact wagers. Dirt favoring early speed so far, hoping Dayatthespa falls off after pushing the pace here on turf.

OK, playing the bias here. $20 on Stonetastic. A win would get me back up on the day. Down $30 at the moment

I am just a 100% idiot. Bet the Tapestry bet first thing this morning, but then spread $200 worth of exotics for this race and don't hit Bobby's Kitten to win. Idiot. How many times am I going to do this? Derby deja vu.

Here's how it's going. Played a $5 exacta 9,12 with 7,9,11,12,13. However, when I placed it, it flipped it around so I had the 5 horses to win and the two favorites to place. I didn't notice until about 2 minutes to post and quickly scrambled to change it. Thereby turning what would have been a $250 cash into another $50 loss.

Down 110. :sadtrombone:

Down 142. I cannot buy a win. Thinking about loading my last 58 bucks on Toronado and then just watching the classic when he loses.

Dumped another hundred in. GD it.

Heavy on Toronado this race. Keyed him over Obviously, Mustajeeb, and Tom's Tribute in a $0.50 superfecta (boxed the latter 3 under Toronado) and then played a $5 exacta Toronado with the field. If Toronado doesn't win then it's clearly just not my day. I'll gladly piss my remaining $90 away on the last race, though.

We gotta f#&king get ONE, right?

In other news, my wife bought 18 frigging pounds of candy for Halloween and we had 4 groups of trick or treaters. I'm going to gain 10 lbs in the next week.

bayern and shared belief are pretty fast in here, and might be tough to beat, but i'm going with moreno to shock the world.

cigar street box, and probably the aforementioned couple defensively
