** Official 2014 Philadelphia Eagles Thread ** (1 Viewer)

I remember when DeSean started his label and was interviewed on the radio about how he's trying to be smart with his money and start businesses, acting so adult. And this is what came from it. It is kind of unreal.

Anyone else thinking that there's more to this than what the press has out there at this point? I guarantee that DJax isn't the only guy in the league that grew up in a rough neighborhood and continues to associate with bad characters. And there are tons of guys in the league that have done waaaay worse than throwing up gang signs, as dumb as that is. Say what you will about Jackson -- on the field he is a difference making player, and it's pretty rare for a guy like that to just be handed his walking papers.

It may be that there is so many red flags and smoke surrounding him that Chip and Howie had enough. It's a very bitter pill to swallow but it may end up making sense. At least I hope so.

Knew it had to be something. While the Eagles should have got something for him, I understand the situation better now. Hopefully Howie learns for the future how to not show your hand and get something for a guy you're getting rid of.
Everyone knew and the trade was a last ditch effort. Them making the move now confirms it IMO. Howie knew they wouldnt get a thing for him.

Herm Edwards saying good for the Philadelphia Eagles. Adding that they have way more info on him than we'll ever know in order to make this kind of move.

You may be right.

So the fftoolbox twitter site was correct. A lot of eagle fans gave them lots of crap when they first reported that Desean was a goner when FA was about to open up a few weeks back. Turns out they were correct.

I don't think DeSean grew up in a bad neighborhood. He is a smart kid from a middle class neighborhood. His childhood is very much like Todd Marinovich. His dad pushed him, NFL or bust. There is a documentary about it showing him from age 9 or 10 preparing for the NFL and forming "Team Jackson." Maybe he's making mistakes now that he should have made in HS when his life was more regimented.

@JasonLaCanfora: Gang affiliation allegations could result in 1-2yr deal for Jackson. He gets good short term $ and then could hit market again b4 he's 30

@ZBerm: But Eagles have had concerns for some time, which is why they have been looking to move him.

@CrossingBroad: Source: The Eagles Were Poking Around Quite a Bit About the Burglary at DeSean Jacksons House http://t.co/dDRIzb6pKS

@Jeff_McLane: #Eagles didn't release DeSean Jackson because of a strong story by http://t.co/27ukxnqmab on his gang connections, but it was final straw.

@Edwerderespn: Eagles end relationship with a young receiver who just had career season in Chip Kelly offense. Some teammates laud move. It's that bad

I still don't think Desean is out in the clear. Cooper's contract could still mean we don't pay him 12M+ the next few seasons.
He's gone but it wasn't about money.

They're paying $6mil against their precious cap to tell him to go away. So not money.
Ok. I believe this has nothing to do with Foles, Kendricks, Cox and Boynkins next contract and the upcoming draft class at WR which the GM has been raving about to the public.

Listening to the radio now and some good points being made. Chip the other day sounded evasive and unsure but now we realize he couldn't say anything. He didn't trash Desean and he didn't give the token "he's my guy and I want him on my team" answer either. I feel better about Chip now and his leadership skills.

Which we would have gotten had they cut Desean next year when he would sign those guys.

Yeah, I've got no idea about his personal life or background at all. But my main point stands -- it seems awfully strong to cut an on-field difference maker based on who he hangs out with off of the field, missed meetings and complaints about money or not. I guarantee that there are tons of guys in every locker room none of us would really want to go have a beer with.

Hmm. Hire convicted dog killer. Extend guy with racist remarks. Cut guy with an official clean record.
How has that worked out:

-Dog Killer: Rehabbed his life and Eagles probably got as much out of him as he was capable of.

-Racist Remark Guy: Goes on to have a career year, thanks in part to Dog Killer.

-Clean Record Guy: ????

Seems to me the Eagles made a good decision to get Vick, and thus far, keeping Cooper was a good decision. The Cooper extension and Desean cut still have to play out.

A leaguemate just sent me a trade offer for Desean and commented "I'm willing to take aflyer on this gang banger." :lmao: perception is everything.

Shah I love the stuff you out on the site and respect a lot of what you do but you are trying far too hard to "be right" on this. I don't know if it's a pride thing or maybe you're having a little fun with Insein but I believe there's enough out, from a TON of people in the know, to see just why this happned. I'm sure you've also been watching football long enough to see a traditional salary cap casualty and I'm also sure you know this doesnt seem to fit given the timeline of everything and the stories that are availible,

So give him the bonus $ + this years salary when he's not even in the future plans? And after you gave Sproles money?Well whatever. It's over. My point from the beginning was that the money didn't make sense and that his production is replaceable. They did that and maybe more with a good draftpick. He is a headache too, I never really disagreed with that. It is what it is

He must have been a huge cancer in that locker room:

We just made an extremely unpopular decision, but I couldn't be more excited and happy with where this organization is going!! #FlyEaglesFly

That should pretty much tell you everything you need to know about this situation

Had DeSean been cut next year he would have been $4M in dead money instead of $6M and the team would have spent $10M on him they could have used in other ways.

People don't take into account that $10M is real money and everything isn't about the cap. You can manipulate the cap in a lot of ways, like restructuring guys to give them more money this year and lower the cap in future years.

They signed everyone they were willing to this year. I doubt anyone else was getting resigned when they have a nice cap number. If this was before free agency, I'd agree about getting $10 mil back. Now its rookies and any intriguing salary cuts. They were already at $18mil cap space. This will put them at $22mil.

Not much difference when the alternative is having a pro bowl wide receiver on your squad for the year all things being equal. Which they are not in this situation.
