***OFFICIAL 2014 WORLD SERIES THREAD: KC vs. SF*** (1 Viewer)

Ray Wershing tacks on a field goal the next drive after a Bill Ring TD.

ETA: Apparently Steve DeBerg hit Freddie Solomon for a 2-point conversion, too.

When SF was down 4-1, I would have never guessed this was the turn around SF was capable of. Tomorrow should be a good game to watch - I like how Shields has struggled in the postseason, that's for sure. I'm curious to see what Bochy does for game 6 and 7. Peavy was horrible in game 2 and I would much rather have bad Hudson be at home g7 if need be.

I know it's just one game.. but it felt unbelievably deflating... but if we do get a win tonight I suppose things are still looking ok. Knowing our ace isn't going to win a game though makes it a lot tougher.
It'll be interesting to see how KC responds to a postseason loss, especially one at home. I'm assuming this is how most Royals feel right now but there is still a lot of ball to be played. If they can grab a lead and hand it to the bullpen tonight the sour will start to taste a little sweeter on the flight to SF.
The Giants next 3 starters of Peavy, Hudson and Vogelsong are a total of 23-39 on the season. The Royals should be able to take 2-3 and get it to 2-2.
Pitcher W-L records are an statistically accurate method of predicting future game results, especially Peavy's record with the Red Sox. Bet the house.
This is exactly where I thought the series would be after 4 games. KC took advantage of the lower tier starters from SF and took 2-3. It is a best of 3. Have to give the edge to SF with Bumgarner figuring to get a win. Win or lose will the Giants roll with Peavy again? If the Giants win maybe, if they lose I don`t see how they could start Peavy with any kind of confidence. Is Lincecum healthy?

Joe Panik is going to be one of those guys who will be a better player in real life than fantasy baseball for the next decade.
Have not seen much of Panik until this series and I agree. Panik is just a good solid baseball player. Not much flash but does everything well on the field. The kind of player that every teams needs.

Judging by SF's past WS second basemen, he will suffer a career ending injury in spring training next year.

This seems like a game the Giants have to have.... the Royals could probably still win the series if they lose, but the Giants aren't winning 2 KC if they don't win tonight.

I suspect Baumgarner will do his thing and that Shields will do what he's been doing as well and that tonight won't be a terribly great baseball game... hopefully better than game 1 or 4, but ultimately a comfortable Giants win.

I hope this is the one night in the post-season where Shields really pitches a gem and maybe someone gets their groove on vs. Baumgarner.... but it's hard to see that as realistic right now.

I felt like last night was important for KC if they really wanted a definitive win.

It's pretty easy to see this going 7 at this point.

I feel good that we are at least still just a few hits away from a tie. Will Madison go nine?

Well I'll be at game 6 cheering my butt off that we can get to game seven.

I hope we can hold home court

Bumgarner is a beast in the postseason. That was probably his best game yet. Never really felt like the Giants were ever in danger of giving up a run.

Does he pitch in a game 7?
I'm not sure what the stats and history are on pitching someone on 3 days rest.

I'd think if I was the Giants I'd have him ready for early middle relief if Hudson shows any sign of not pitching great.

I'm still hopeful as a Royals fan.. I think Ventura is going to have another successful game and push this to a 7th game...

in game 7 though? who knows... honestly anything can happen in one baseball game... anything.

I definitely felt like KC was off of their game out in the NL rules park... sure we got game 3... but it felt almost a bit fortunate.

The most disturbing thing is that KC seems to have deviated from its game plan... where is the base stealing? is Posey really that dominant defensively? What happened to the sterling defense.. just a few cracks in it have been hugely problematic..

Something has to be done about Hunter Pence... even as dominant as Bumgarner has been you have to consider him a STRONG candidate for series MVP if the Giants win

Heard a stat last night that Dyson is only hitting .140 since August? Looks totally overmatched at the plate. Now I know what Andrew Romine looks like to opposing fans.

So this whole big game james nonsense should end now right?
last night was his best performance in the post-season.

The big game thing has been stupid for a long time

He's still a very nice pitcher... but on a world series team he should be a team's #2, not a #1

.140 is generous. It was only .130 since end of August

The Dyson for Aoki swap has looked smart in the field a few times but we'll never know whether Aoki could have done more with regular PAs in the SF games.

Well tonight is the big night. I really think if the royals can't get back to the baseball that got them here that this magical run is going to die out.

no stolen bases while in San Fran, bad defense, and all the power they mustered in the early playoffs was gone.

Either they summon some magic up again.. because without the stolen bases and such they are just the team that was below .500 for a good portion of the year.

The three Royals losses have been two Bumgarner gems and one meltdown by the back half of the pitching staff.

Peavy is hittable and Ventura is on full rest. If Ventura has a similar performance to what he did in Game 2 (23 batters faced, 2 runs given up, exit in the 6th) the game is winnable.

The descriptive-but-not-predictive history is on KC's side, too. Home teams in Games 6 and 7 of the World Series have won 22 of their last 25. 15 of the last 17 Series that went 6 or 7 games were won by the team hosting 6 & 7.

The 82 Brewers have a bye this week.

That's when the "trend" started. The 81 Dodgers closed out the Series in 6 at Yankee Stadium. Since then, it's been just one of the Blue Jays title teams and the Josh Beckett Marlins to close out a long series on the road. So this means the road team is due, and I clearly cannot choose the glass in front of me.

Giants have a clear-cut DH in Morse and not much in the way of pinch-hitting talent, so I don't think an AL park helps too much. And as bad as Yost is, it does seem like he's started to figure things out a bit since the play-in game. Think about the regular-season Yosting where he brought in Crow "because they needed a strikeout", he's miles from that point.

That said, Batting Gordon sixth is ####### crazy. I just don't understand this.

The DH rule could help the Giants in a bullpen game. Middle relief has been decisive in two games already. SF could run Petit out for multiple innings without worrying about where he fits in the batting order.

What did Bochy expect from Peavy tonight? And now he's burning Petit from being used tomorrow? I don't get it at all.
