ESPN announcers kept calling Marcus Mariotta the best QB in the country.

:coffee:

But that's none of my business.
We don't actually expect these "experts" to admit wrong, do we? There's no question the kid is special at Oregon. How that translates to the NFL is anybody's guess, but I have a few doubts.
Who called him the best future NFL QB in the country?
I don't know. Who? I suspect that the list of who hasn't would be much shorter. Though I don't really know why you're even asking me that question.

:lmao: at ESPN showing live coverage of the kids at The Grove running to get their tailgating spots. I was really hoping one of them was going to bite it on the wet ground.

Your dish positioning may suck then.

I had no such issue on mine and you know how close we live to each other.

I think that's Hackenberg but I don't know I thought Jameis was considered the top QB in next years draft.

Hackenberg isn't draft eligible this year. Yes, most everyone is placing Mariota as the top QB in this class right now. I don't see it but his athleticsim is undeniable. Looks a lot like Vince Young to me right now. We'll see if he transitions his game better to the NFL.

Yea...if you venture over to the Shark Pool much, you'll see that they've been talking about teams like the Bucs in the 'Race for Mariota' for a while now.

Especially with Winston's issues...he's the #1 QB by a mile...or at least was.

If the remaining top 10 wins out tomorrow and factoring strength of schedule and giving added weight to victories over opponents currently ranked in Top 25 my 5 would be as follows:

1. Alabama

2. Oklahoma

3. Texas A&M

4. Auburn

5. Baylor

Ummm, Baylor over FSU?

Great call to end the UCF/Houston game.
Stupid rule, but a good call. For all the heat refs get when they blow one, it's amazing how many of these they actually get right, even without the benefit of replay.

I have a feeling UCF is going to need one or two more lucky breaks like that if they hope to make the Beef'O'Bitcoin bowl this year.

Anybody know any good breakfast spots in Knoxville? Near or on the way to Neyland?
If you can make it over to Tomato Head on Market Square while you're there... it will be a huge hit with the wife, likely. Not a meat and potatoes place, but from what I remember it's exceptionally fresh/good ingredients and a solid menu.

Not a breakfast place... just something to consider.

I used to enjoy brunch at Copper Cellar that's about Midstrip and a very reasonable walk to Neyland from there. ETA: #### looks like brunch is only Sundays.

No but the wife is. If they're going to crap in our food I'll just eat at the hotel.
Nobody will mess with your food. The rivalry between FL and UT has died down considerably since the Fulmer/Spurrier era, and it wasn't really an issue then.

You're good to go

Man my bama-fan friends are wayyyyyyy too overconfident heading into this game. This meme is running rampant.

This is Ole Miss' superbowl. Despite the relatively early kickoff for a game of this caliber, the crowd will be well-lubricated with bourbon and should make for a solid environment despite the small stadium.

Statfox has the true line at Ole Miss -2
Bama is 1-2-1 ATS this year.. Ole Miss is 4-0

Bama Defense has allowed 56 points against
Ole Miss Defense has allowed 34 points against
Surprising given Bama's SOS is on par with Ole Miss's (29.7 vs 29.3 opponent power rating)

Not that this isn't obvious, but Bo Wallace is the lynchpin of this whole thing. Should be one hell of a game.

Is it now possible that SEC West could get three teams in the tournament. I'm 75% serious here.

Bama

msu/tamu winner

LSU or msu/tamu loser

I guess anything's possible.

The Anti-SEC crowd would lose their ####### minds if something like this happened.

Problem is looking ahead at schedules:

Miss State : TAMU, Auburn, Kentucky, Ark, UTM, Vandy, Alabama, Ole Miss

TAMU: MIss State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Louisiana Monroe, Auburn, Mizzou, LSU.

Poor A&M have ONE unranked opponent left, and are yet to face 5 of the top 15. Sick.

There's going to have to be some cannibalization within the west, and there's just not really anyone strong enough out of the East to get through (likely going to lose the SEC Champ Game)

Wallace and Sims. Sims first big road test...vs a very good D. His mobility may be the difference. The Ds have only given up 5 TDs total, minus turnovers and ST....3 by Bama.

A lot of experts picking Ole Miss and the points...agree it'll be a barn burner.

Ill add.

This is why you DON'T expand playoffs.

Week 6 becomes a playoff week in theory....

Why ruin the regular season by letting 8/16/32 teams in?

Stupid. No one is watching UConn vs Iona in November in NCAA Hoops. Everyone is watching football this weekend because it is the playoffs. Every week practically is.
Not that I disagree with you on expanding the playoffs because I am thrilled with 4, but this is the exact same ignorant lack of thought argument the critics of even having a 4 team playoff had for decades. It is an awful argument. Time to let it go.

Honestly, if you want the best 4 teams in the tournament you have to get 3 from SEC West. Somehow.

3 SEC teams and whomever is undefeated between FSU and Baylor/OU

I think Oregon has a bunch of injuries to their offensive line. Tough to rip Mariota too much if he's running for his life.
No it isn't - after week 1 what team is ever truly healthy? No rules in place to ensure you have to take it easy on a team because they have some injuries. Great teams have depth to get through injuries, good teams are only good when healthy.

Thanks for narrowing the Heisman ballot last night. Most likely a RB now.

Icon - you ever been to Brothers Johnson and Sisters BBQ in Knoxville? Online reviews look great. Thinking of dropping in tonight.

Great win for Arizona. I'm pretty stunned.
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
actually I didn't see any of it except the last 5 minutes. I was at my daughter's back to school night, then I suffered through the Angels losing in overtime. But why is what I wrote so funny?
Not that it matters but I didn't understand his :lmao: either. It was a stunning win.

I wish RichRod was still at Michigan.
tim's understanding of anything football is so limited to the point that he doesn't understand the basics. Anybody who lives on the West Coast who follows the Pac 12 knew Oregon was prime for an early upset, and that their ranking would get a ding due to early conference scheduling. The Pac 12 is fast becoming one of the NCAA conferences to watch. tim is just following bandwagons.
I see. So I don't understand the basics because I was surprised that the #2 team would lose at home? Link to the "anybody who lives on the West Coast" who predicted an Arizona victory? I think you must be drunk or something.
I wouldn't have predicted an Arizona victory, but most thought it would be very close. Arizona beat the living #### out of Oregon last season.

I have not, but reviews are indeed sick. Please report back if you drop in.

Don't buy into the Calhouns ribs hype. Great spot for drinks with a view but food is meh IMO.

if both defenses are that good it sure doesn't sound like a barn burner. It sounds like a 10-6 game. Hope I'm wrong.

Why? Nobody's given Brett Hundley a pass the past 2+ years when he's lost 3-4 starting OL per year and had true frosh starting in their place. Injuries are part of the game.

well, they do have 6 teams in the top 15 in the country in one side of the conference.
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Here are those teams non-conf. wins too.

Alabama - WVU, FAU, Southern Miss

Auburn - K-State, San Jose, La Tech

Texas A&M - Lamar, Rice, SMU

Ole Miss - Boise, La Lafayette, Memphis

LSU - Wisconsin, New Mex St, La Monroe, Sam Houston St

Miss St - Southern Miss, UAB, South Alabama

So those 6 teams have combined to beat three teams basically (Wisconsin, WVU, K-State). I'm sure SEC reputation has NOTHING to do with a bunch of voters making up a top 25 list.

Question does the school set the date/time of the games played or is that up tot he conference. If I was Oregon I would ask to remove Thursday Night from there schedule. They have played in 2 Thursday night games since there last appearance in a National Championship game and they lost both. Stick to Saturdays moving forward.

It's definitely possible. but there is still a ton of football to be played

Yeah. The biggest OOC win from any of the unbeatens in that division is Kansas State. That's not enough of a resume to justify sending a two-loss, third place team ahead of a one-loss conference champion.

As a lifelong Miss State fan/alum posts like these are just unfathomable. Heisman talk on top of playoff talk. A letdown is brewing. Don't think its tomorrow though!
