Sure it would be great for a four-team playoff, but how do you factor the bowls into the equation? Right now, P5 teams are 134-15 against non-P5 teams this season. Take those away and force P5 schools to play each other exclusively in the nonconference (or as part of 16-team mega conferences) and you're looking at a net loss of ~ 60 wins so far this season.

Why wouldn't they still be able to play non-P5 teams?

The way the confrence is algined with the West being top heavy in the rankings like one said they will cannibalize themselves and it also hurts recruiting now if you balance the conferences and they are all ranked and you now have a Top 5 team coming out of the East and West both undefeated for the Championship game that does wonders for the conference and its exposure.

You take an A&M team and move them to the East and they lose Bama and Auburn from the schedule and they end up undefeated in the East and they play an undefeated Bama or Auburn out of the West in the SEC Championship game how can a committee say that losing the Championship game doesn't give you the right to be in the playoffs.

I personally think the Selection Committee should select the 4 playoff teams prior to Championship weekend so none of the conference championships come into play.

I believe this came about due to protecting rivalries and good old fashioned politics.

It's also not worth realigning because which division is stronger is cyclical. It wasn't all that long ago that the East was clearly better.

Problem is looking ahead at schedules:

Miss State : TAMU, Auburn, Kentucky, Ark, UTM, Vandy, Alabama, Ole Miss

TAMU: MIss State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Louisiana Monroe, Auburn, Mizzou, LSU.

Poor A&M have ONE unranked opponent left, and are yet to face 5 of the top 15. Sick.

There's going to have to be some cannibalization within the west, and there's just not really anyone strong enough out of the East to get through (likely going to lose the SEC Champ Game)

Honestly, if you want the best 4 teams in the tournament you have to get 3 from SEC West. Somehow.

This is Ole Miss' superbowl. Despite the relatively early kickoff for a game of this caliber, the crowd will be well-lubricated with bourbon and should make for a solid environment despite the small stadium.

Bama Defense has allowed 56 points against

Surprising given Bama's SOS is on par with Ole Miss's (29.7 vs 29.3 opponent power rating)

Not that this isn't obvious, but Bo Wallace is the lynchpin of this whole thing. Should be one hell of a game.

Wallace and Sims. Sims first big road test...vs a very good D. His mobility may be the difference.The Ds have only given up 5 TDs total, minus turnovers and ST....3 by Bama.

A lot of experts picking Ole Miss and the points...agree it'll be a barn burner.

if both defenses are that good it sure doesn't sound like a barn burner. It sounds like a 10-6 game. Hope I'm wrong.

This isn't Bama-LSU 2011...the defenses aren't THAT good. And the offenses are both significantly better...both top 25 in scoring.

Ole Miss is counting Memphis as a HIGH QUALITY non-conference win imo.

Memphis' only other loss was a nail-biter to the pride of the PAC12 at home... and Ole Miss beat them much more handily than UCLA did

UCLA was up by 14 multiple times throughout the game as well as heading into the fourth quarter. UCLA admittedly played poorly.

Ole Miss and Memphis was a 7 to 3 game heading into the fourth quarter.

They were both nail biters. Ole Miss didn't go up by more than one score until 9 minutes were left. They scored their second TD of the game with a minute left.

But, I'm sure you knew well that and didn't just look at the final scores...

So Bama's 2nd WR...DeAndrew White...is a game time decision now due to a toe sprain vs UF.

The WR depth is like never before there...but to lose an experienced, fast, great blocking WR when Ole MIss will be focused on stopping Cooper could be important.

Are you talking theoretical, what-if-Alabama-loses-to-West-Carolina type scenarios, or things that might actually happen? If it's the latter, then no.

I mean, I guess if the West beats each other up enough that the winner of the division has two losses, then somehow ####s the bed against a 9-3 Missouri in the championship game... maybe. But I think the SEC mojo is strong enough that two losses still gets the champ into the playoffs in most reasonable scenarios.

Fair enough. Memphis has a few great places. But that's really it. Nashville's BBQ is not very good.

Texas BBQ is much, much better and has much more depth. There're 50 places in Texas that are as good as the best place in Memphis.

No serious proposals, but I have seen chatter out there that they should avoid scheduling non-P5 teams for "strength of schedule" purposes. But that really only helps the teams at the top. How do you convince the Rutgers, Indiana, Cal, Vanderbilt, etc. of the world to go along with that?

I am sorry to announce that despite rave reviews on the trusty internet, Johnson Brothers and Sister BBQ is out of business. Nobody was there and the phone was disconnected.

The good, but not great news is that we ended up at Dead End BBQ which has phenomenal chicken wings and the best banana pudding I have ever had. Alas, the burnt ends were overly done (there's a thin line there and they crossed it) and the cornbread was as dry as paste.

The people here are nice though. I wore my Florida State shirt out to give both fanbases the finger.
