*Official 2015 Philadelphia Eagles* - Winning when it doesnt count (1 Viewer)

A shame really that the best this offense has looked is with a QB who got benched for Case Keenum and gang member.

When's the last year that none of the Philadelphia sports teams went over .500? Could happen this year. Tough time to be a Philly sports fan.

Depending on how you want to count the NHL/NBA season, it was 1994.

Phillies 54-61

76ers (1993-94) 25-57

Flyers (1993-94) 35-39-10

Eagles 7-9

Damn, that's nuts! That was one year before I followed those 4 teams, so I guess this could be the worst of my 20 years of Philly sports fandem.

Let's hope we can go 9-7 and not break the trend.

I think the Flyers are the best shot, sadly enough.

This may be the lowest combined win total between all 4 teams ever though. Phillies and Sixers are going to help that.

My hope - this season is a wash. Maybe we'll make the playoffs - but we aren't hanging with the big dogs. It is what it is.

Resign Bradford. Yea, he hasn't been great - but he hasn't even have a full offseason healthy in the system yet. I'm good with bringing him back.

As another poster said - we NEED a #1 WR. Not resigning Maclin is the one move that is hurting us. Maybe Agholor will take a step forward in year #2, but who knows. Cooper and Austin will be gone. Even a servicable, mid-tier WR would be better then what we have out there - it's like the 2003 Eagles with Mitchell and Pinkston and Thrash all over again.

Defense is good. Draft OL, sign a WR - and let's see what we can do with this new crew in year 2.

Sanchez @home vs TB, and likely Sanchez again on the road Thanksgiving v. DET are both winnable games.
I think the next 2 games are the Eagles' season. Win them both (with or despite Sanchez) and they're in good position to win the division.

Can we start the who's the better QB argument again? This time Mark Sanchez vs. Case Keenum.

The first QB argument was so scintillating, the second could be even better!

Insein, ShaHbucks, Deamon, JuniorNB, ready.......GO!

Sanchez. Plus, he's been in this system for a while. Excited about how he will do. Go Birds!

I'd rather the Mannion vs Thad argument over who the best 3rd QB is.

Bradford back observing practice. Means he's at least passed through the first part of the protocol and has a shot to play Thanksgiving depending on his shoulder.

Mathews on the other hand isn't looking very good. I doubt he plays this weekend.

If I'm not mistaken, Alshon Jeffery is an unrestricted free agent. I'd love to see Chip make a run at him. He'd be the best receiver we've had here since Mike Quick. After him, the next best might be Marvin Jones. Nothing too exciting.

There's zero chance the Bears don't franchise tag him.

Well, they did spend a high number one pick for Kevin White. They're only going to tie up so much money at one position. I wouldn't be shocked if they let Forte walk either. Langford looks more than capable of stepping right in. I guess it depends if the Bears consider themselves to be rebuilding and would rather put the Jefferey money toward the O-line or not. But if he is available, I sure hope Philly gets into the bidding.

Forte I can see them letting go. I would be absolutely blown away if Jefferey isn't a Bear next year. Even if you're rebuilding, he's one of the top young, talented WR's in the NFL. White won't require a lot of money... he'll be on a rookie contract still for a little while so investing top WR money in Jefferey is nothing. They're going to try to re-sign him long term, but if not then he's for sure getting tagged unfortunately.

Daniel Jeramiah and Bucky Brooks pretty much blasted Chip on Move The Sticks today. Says he inherited one of the best rosters in the NFL 2 years ago and decimated it. Called his performance to date average (DJ) and arrogant (BB). Said the system worked when they had great players; DJax, McCoy & Maclin.

Also said he does not alter his system to his player strenghts, something I said months ago.

One of the best rosters is horsesheet

I do agree with the last sentence. I have said it before that hes not the same guy as he was 2 years ago. When he started he would change it up but with every passing year he's actually become more and more stuck in his ways

I think it was certainly a good roster. How good is debatable. Both those guys think it was top 5 and I respect them a good bit. DJ far more than BB. I'd tend to agree. Chip the GM is a fail. Chip the coach might still be capable but his lack of innovation this year is not making me feel good about it. I agree he seemed to do this far better early. Then again, when he had guys like DJax, McCoy and Maclin who could win matchup so simply because they are better than the other guy it's a lot easier.

The Eagles won 5 games with that awesome roster during Reid's last year here.

I haven't seen Desean Jackson, Maclin, or McCoy tearing it up at their new locations.

Yeah, strange that guys who are injured aren't producing. DJax was just fine last year. He was better than fine.

The roster now is a LOT better than it was when Chip got here. The only position that got worse was WR. So if it was a good roster at that time it's great now....

DJax is a one trick pony. He runs a fly pattern. He's also takes most plays off. And has been a failure in Washington. Actually one of Chip's better moves.

I don't get confused. So, you don't think their opinion matters? Seems like a convenient position but ok.

Listen to the podcasts and what they say. I mean heaven forbid you consider some impartial views on the matter.

The defense is lightyears ahead of where uber-coach Reid left it. The QB position is a wash (Vick/Foles vs. Bradford/Sanchez). I'd say the combo of Murray/Mathews/Sproles is as good or better than McCoy/Brown/Polk. TEs Celek/Ertz is an upgrade over Celek/Harbor.

Where do you see '12 being so much better than our current roster? Other than WR, which everyone agrees is not where it needs to be.

I listen to DJ's podcast religiously and have since he started doing them. There's a reason those guys are former scouts as well. Maybe we could ask Matt Millen since he didn't have to do the lowly old scout thing and jumped right to GM, I mean he has to know things, right? But yeah, you don't get confused....go away

Its not even close between the rosters from 2012 to now.

So you know it would be disingenuous to imply he's leaving scouting has a negative connotation.

Not at all. Had 99% of these "former" coaches, gm's and scouts been great at what they did, at what they loved since day 1, they'd be doing it now.

I'm pretty sure he even said as much or jokingly mentioned that.

Ya I really don't get anyone who says the roster is worse. Maybe because WR is so front and center in the media/stats, this is overweighing the rest of the roster... but would expect more from former scouts.

Defense by far better at every position. Yes, EVERY position.

RBs/QBs/TEs all a wash or better now. Oline and WR is where we definitely are worse off now. But overall, roster is better. Chip hasn't made all the right moves, but he has improved the roster.

The Eagles won 5 games with that awesome roster during Reid's last year here.

I think it was certainly a good roster. How good is debatable. Both those guys think it was top 5 and I respect them a good bit. DJ far more than BB. I'd tend to agree.Chip the GM is a fail. Chip the coach might still be capable but his lack of innovation this year is not making me feel good about it. I agree he seemed to do this far better early. Then again, when he had guys like DJax, McCoy and Maclin who could win matchup so simply because they are better than the other guy it's a lot easier.

Oline is way worse. Age and failure to replace has left us with a shell of that 2013 line.

I haven't seen Desean Jackson, Maclin, or McCoy tearing it up at their new locations.
Yeah, strange that guys who are injured aren't producing. DJax was just fine last year. He was better than fine.
DJax is a one trick pony. He runs a fly pattern. He's also takes most plays off. And has been a failure in Washington. Actually one of Chip's better moves.
Attitude aside, his 56-1169-6 line would sure look nice in this offense right about now. If we had a QB that could go deep. ;)

me. Wouldn't want him back. He's a punk. And injury prone. Maclin, I'd take. But not Jackson.

I agree. I don't think the team is significantly less talented, but a bit less. Oline is a critical peice to be weak at.

I really like the front 7 especially. I like it because they have 2 dominant guys in Cox/Kendricks, both inherited from the 12 squad and both who are vastly better now because they were rookies then.

Oline and WR are front and center in this league now. You throw to win. You need guys that may not be #1's but at least competent #2's or a game changing TE. Matthews is a slot guy. Agholar i think will be good but we cant expect that for another 2 years really. We all werent thinking straight on that one. Huff is a bust. Having Cooper and Austin as significant contributors is unacceptable.

On top of that you need to block to win. While our oline has done ok this year, its clear that the depth is dreadful. 1 draft pick for oline in 3 drafts. One. And they were basically forced to take Lane. Thank god Miami took Dion Jordan or who knows what would have happened.

Yea he put this backfield together but we know Demarco was by chance and doesn't really fit the scheme. Mathews is great but is known to get injured. Sproles has had explosive moments by largely unused. I'd say McCoy 2013 was the best back this offense has seen and Chip sure hasn't drafted or developed anyone.

Yes defense is better. The corps is Cox and Kendricks though, hold overs from Howie's draft. Hicks is a stud and Logan is a starter. Who else has Chip got? Marcus Smith? Eric Rowe? Jaylen Watkins? Taylor Hart? Earl Wolff?

Free agency has been hit or miss. Secondary is a success for the most part. Jenkins and Thurmond are wins. Fletcher and Williams were busts. Maxwell is a push. LBs are a wash. Demeco was Howie's. Barwin is a win. Kiko is a push. Graham is showing promise but was Andy's misguided pick that finally came through.

Special teams coverage was awesome in 2014. Mediocre to bad this year. Punt blocks, big returns etc. Sproles is getting older. We never use Barner for anything. Kicker has been a disaster and largely ignored by Chip. Whatever guy happens to be around it seems.

He's done some good but a lot of bad. Has he really developed anyone on offense though? Matthews is regressing. Agholar a work in progress. Huff sucks. There are no RBs. Ertz shows flashes but hardly top tier. Has anyone grown into a better player under this coaching staff?

A very mediocre job as a GM and coach. I guess if we're shooting for greatness we should take a risk and trade away the coach for the potential that a better one exists.

Do you think

1) the '12 roster was top-5?

2)Decimated now?

Keep in mind, the roster includes offense, defense and special teams.

ETA: Chip's 3 mistakes imho are ignoring the O-line in the draft the last 2 years, not overpaying to keep Maclin, letting Evan Mathis go.
