***Official 2015 State Of The Union Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Well she didn't lurch for any water. Gotta give her that.
Jindhal teaching 3rd graders talking to his fellow citizens. Rubio y el agua. Michelle Bachman and the seventeen-headed 2011 version.

The bar for these rebuttals has been set low.

So President Obama's speech focused on the middle class, Republican response was protecting the wealthy, and the New Republican Congress is finally ready to work for Americans.

? I have what took so long?

So this Ernst chick brags about paying her college tuition with a minimum wage job at Hardee's as a reason to oppose a higher minimum wage and free higher education. Does she just choose to completely ignore that a minimum wage job at Hardee's wouldn't even put a dent into most college tuition's in the modern world?

What a ridiculous thing to brag about.

#BreadBags: Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa gives Twitter lots of fodder in State of the Union response

Freshman Republican Sen. Joni Ernst from Iowa unintentionally fed the Twitter beast on Tuesday night in her response to the State of the Union speech, all but guaranteeing a Saturday Night Live parody.

It began with her talking about wearing bread bags around her feet when she was a little girl. (Its a Midwestern thing, folks. Just stop it.)

Very quickly, people started tweeting photos of their feet wrapped in bread bags.

And #BreadBags became a hashtag.

A smattering of reactions to how she said what she said, most of them delivered at the hashtag, #JoniErnst:

"We had to use our bread bags for mittens".

"Next time it snows or rains, I'm gonna try wearing bread bags like Joni Ernst once did".

"I was waiting for her to ask me for my account number and something about my patronage being important to her."

"No doubt #JoniErnst just made #LorneMichaels a VERY happy man!! Looking forward to @nbcsnl Saturday night!"

"Did anyone else expect #JoniErnst to say 'But wait, there's more'!"

In the spirit of the Presidents we are the United States of America sentiments, well second this tweet from ‏@ReganWV:

"A good #SOTU response is rarely seen. It's a rough gig. No one should demonize, degrade, or insult #JoniErnst for her sincerely-held views."

O.K., but well still be watching Saturday Night Live this weekend.

MN is generally considered part of the Midwest:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midwestern_United_States

The Midwestern United States, or the Midwest, is one of the four U.S. geographic regions defined by the United States Census Bureau.[1] The region was named the North Central region by the Census Bureau until 1984.[2]

The region consists of 12 states in the north central United States: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

The Bread (Bag) Basket of America

There is a story out today that the bread bags woman who game the rebuttal has received $400,000 in government assistance. http://www.inquisitr.com/1777070/joni-ernst-on-welfare-gop-senators-family-took-460000-in-taxpayer-handouts/
I'm no friend of the right. That's not what that says. It says her father got $38K in subsidies over the course of many years and her uncle got a few hundred thousand. That's not her. And many experts, right and left, will tell you those subsidies are necessary if you want affordable vegetables to always be there. That is not "wasteful spending." I don't see any hypocrisy, at least related to the Sentinal piece.
