**Official** 2015 Washington Redskins Thread YOU LIKE THAT! (2 Viewers)

I live in Baltimore and I'm at a Ravens party every week. The things Ravens fans complain about is so crazy to me, until I realize that their team doesn't have nearly the issues that our team has. At least four or five of those purple losers would have had strokes if the Ravens had a series like the Redskins did in the 4th quarter with all those penalties.

Being forced to watch a well run organization really makes me despise the Redskins in some ways.
If it makes you feel any better, remember that the Redskins have never forced a woman to publicly apologize for getting slugged by one of their players. Also, last time I went to FedEx Field there were zero statues outside the stadium honoring murderers.

(that was way more fun than just putting a :blackdot: on this thread)

I told my neighbors son, who was wearing a Ray Lewis jersey and telling my daughter that Ray Lewis was the best player and Justin Tucker (whose jersey my daughter was wearing) wasn't good, that Ray Lewis was involved in killing people. His parents thought it was a little excessive to say to a 5yo.

Cousins is 25th in QB rating, 68.8, with 4 teams left to play: http://www.nfl.com/stats/weeklyleaders?d-446412-s=PASSING_PASSER_RATING&season=2015&d-446412-n=1&d-446412-o=2&d-446412-p=1&showCategory=Passing&week=1

Last year in week 1 the Skins looked disjointed, like they did yesterday. Houston beat them 17-6, with one TD coming on a blocked punt if I remember correctly. Griffin threw for 267 yards, no TD, no INT, and lost 1 fumble. He got killed for the performance.

Let's not pretend Cousins did well when he did not. There were promising signs yesterday. The O-line did not get crushed on pass blocking and actually was good on run blocking. Their performance was good enough to win a game. The defense allowed only 17 points which keeps you in most games and can win a fair number of them. Garcon and Reed were good. Morris was awesome.

The most troubling sign I saw yesterday was Morris saying he was "very, very disappointed". He is not a whiner or complainer. But with the game on the line Gruden does not use him, and the Skins usually lose. Alfred is our best offensive weapon and I don't want to see us lose him.
I thought Griffin played ok in the opener last year. It is his subsequent games that looked really bad. And getting sacked so many times.

I thought Cousins played ok. I thought the offense was moving pretty well in the first half. They had yards. They had time of possession. But when I looked at the scoreboard, they did not have many points.
First half drives were a mixed bag. I mean, they were pretty great for Redskins standards, but kind of meh for NFL standards. There were 5 drives, including the final kneel down.

Drive 1: Gained some good yards and moved the ball well. Get as far as the Miami 26 and then sacked on 1st down. 2nd and 3rd down were both runs in what I assume was simply Gruden playing for the FG at that point. Maybe that's the best move for this offense. But, plenty of teams across the NFL would have made a more legit attempt at picking up the 1st down. And maybe Forbath was part of that decision. He doesn't have a strong leg so maybe Gruden was just trying to inch closer rather than risk an incompletion and a longer FG. They get the 3.

Drive 2: First play shoulda/coulda been a TD to Jackson. Instead, it's a pulled hammy for our best offensive player. No problem (for now) as Cousins hits Garcon a couple times into Miami territory. Gruden gets back to the run and is left with a 4th and 1 at the Miami 27, same field position as Forbath's previous successful FG. They line up to go for it even though I think everyone in the stadium knew they were just going to try to draw them offsides, which leads to a wasted timeout. Gruden then makes the mistake, IMO, to play it safe and kick the FG. Forbath misses. Two long drives sandwiched around a Miami 3-and-out lead to just a 3-0 lead.

Drive 3: Two Alf runs produce only two yards. On 3rd down, Cousins hits Garcon, but Garcon is called for OPI. Then on 3rd and 18 from your own 12, Gruden doesn't play it safe with a run! He passes and Cousins makes a horrible decision and is picked by Grimes. Luckily, the Skins D holds on 4th down (note the Dolphins chose to go for it on 4th and 1 instead of taking the 3) and the INT ultimately doesn't hurt them other than maybe in field position.

Drive 4: After stopping Miami on 4th down with 10:38 to go, it's a nice drive with a lot of running and some short passes. The only thing I didn't like here was the first and goal from the 1. First of all, they could have taken the clock all the way down to the 2:00 warning instead of running a play at 2:05. Secondly, I'm not Xs and Os expert, but it looked to me like they ran the exact same play with the exact same formation and motion as the play before. And shockingly the Miami safety blew it up, hitting Alf in the back field. Had they waited until the 2:00 warning to run that play, they could have at least run another 40 seconds off the clock or forced Miami to use a timeout. They ultimately score a TD on a play the rest of the league has been doing effectively for years.

Drive 5: Why do I include a kneel down as a drive here? Because there were 27 seconds and they had a timeout. Just about every team in this situation will run a draw or safe screen just to see what you can get. Maybe you rip off 20 yards and give yourself a chance at something to end the half and take back some momentum. It was another example of Gruden playing it safe and I think shows a lack of trust (maybe deservedly so) in the offense (and Cousins).

Crap. I have Forbath in the subscriber contest. I think I just lost the grand prize.

2nd drive of the 2nd half was a disaster.

After a Miami 15-yard penalty on the punt, Redskins start at their 34. They get lucky with a Miami defensive holding that negates a Cameron Wake sack on 3rd down. Next play, Cousins hits Reed deep down the middle and then Morris picks up 6 yards. 2nd and 4 at the Miami 22! On the next play, Cousins moves to his left to avoid some pressure and dumps the ball to Carrier for a 1 yard loss. I'm pretty sure he had someone wide open further out towards the left sideline, but I guess he didn't see him. Still left with 3rd and 5 and the Miami 23. Up 10-7 at the time, you have to be thinking that you're at least getting out of this with a 13-7 lead.

Then comes a delay of game, OPI on Reed, and a hold on Nsekhe (temporarily replacing Moses) to back them all the way to the Miami 47. Miami kept accepting the penalties and giving the Redskins additional chances. On 3rd and 29, Morris runs for 11. My problem here is that Morris ran out of bounds. He left them at the 36 yard line, which would have been a 54 yard FG. We obviously don't trust Forbath to try from that distance in that scenario so it would have been great had Morris done whatever he could to pick up more yards. You're running a play with the goal of getting into FG position (I assume), but maybe the players don't know where that is?

Anyway, Way punts it into the endzone for a net gain of 16 yards and Miami drives the field for the tying FG. Penalties were the obvious problem on that drive, but also a missed receiver on 2nd down and maybe a missed opportunity to pick up a few extra yards and try a FG.

The next Redskins drive involved a holding, a personal foul, and then another holding (which was declined) followed by a punt returned for a TD. Game not over, but game lost right there.

Sucks that Breeland can come back this week and now we lose Culliver for a game.

Also after thinking more, why did we even let Forbath get to the regular season if he was just 1 missed FG away from being cut?

great writeups DGreen. like the drive recaps and agree w/ most of your insight along the way, too.

Doesn't inspire much confidence in management, does it? It's like the constant rotating of the starting quarterback. It doesn't look like there's a real plan. It looks like they're trying to find a rabbit's foot.

im not a forbath fan, just seems like he misses the big ones, though his make % is decent.

question: was the new kicker a recent street FA or was he on the street before the season? that answer could add context to the timing of the release of forbath.

Don't think Hopkins was on a team to start the season.

I wasn't a huge Forbath guy, he was accurate, but didn't have much range. But, my thing is, if the team wasn't very confident in him, then why not have a competition throughout camp and the preseason? If you cut the guy after 1 missed FG in Week 1, you obviously didn't think he was going to make it through the season.

I really wish the Redskins were the team picked for Hardknocks. There's a chance Gruden would have been instantly exposed and out of here a little sooner.

Also after thinking more, why did we even let Forbath get to the regular season if he was just 1 missed FG away from being cut?
The missed FG wasn't the issue. It's his kickoffs. He's practically the only kicker in the league who can't consistently get touchbacks. And we don't even consider a 54 yard FG attempt up 10-7 in the 3rd quarter. Punting was the easy decision in that situation with Forbath. Of course, to your point, they've known all of this for a while now, so not sure why they waited until now.

Agree with that last part. Forbath didn't do anything against Miami that everyone didn't already know. Missed a 40+yd FG and couldn't kickoff through the endzone. Nothing really surprising if you have watched him during his time here. Just strange IMO to not have him face competition in the preseason and then cut him Week 1 because he's done what he's always done during his time here.

1. Greatly enjoyed seeing the Eagles lose last night. Though...in the second half, their offense looked potent. At least, we are only solidly behind one team after one game. So...um, on to next week.

2. To make this sort of more Redskins related, why did it seem every time I turned around Leonard Hankerson was getting called for holding... :P

As to point 2, I was saying to myself during the game "Well, at least an ex-redskin is keeping us in the game". Too funny

That drive to me shows what a complete incompetent boob Gruden is. Those undisciplined penalties and not making sure the players have situational awareness is a direct reflection of the Coaching Staff.

With Scot I took this more as a "Don't do your job? Goodbye!" type of message. But that could just be a bit too optimistic.

Plenty to say about Week 1. I'll get to that when I have time.

For now, just a quick hitter: Orakpo the Underachiever/Titans: 1 Tackle

I think everyone in the organization is on notice that changes will be made if the performance does not improve. After next week's game with 10 penalties for 104 yards, the Redskins will replace the guy who holds the wire to Gruden's headset.

I guess this means Amerson survives another week. Or does Culliver still count against the 53-man roster?

Amerson isn't going anywhere. With Hall coming off of a twice torn Achilles they have to be concerned about depth.

They can only have 53 men on the roster. Breeland can take Culliver's spot this week. Culliver will need a spot to come back to. If they come out of next week's game healthy and nobody else is suspended (both big IFs the way things are going so far), then who are you cutting to make room?

Looking to sell my tickets to the Eagles game a few weeks from now. PM me if you're interested. Get them now before we win the next 2 and the price goes up, up, up!

I saw that Groupon already has a deal for this week's game against the Rams. LL seats for $110. You can get into this week's game from Stubhub for $16 after fees for SRO. For an actual seat, it's $26.

That is a day I can make a game, the Miami fans were annoying enough for me (as were the Cowboy fans. WTF is up with that? Cowboy jerseys when they aren't even playing. Idiots). I don't think I want to deal with Eagle fans.

Duke Inacho will go to IR so there's a spot right there. Although they may need that for the new safety that's been on the scout team. Some guy name Griffin, anyone heard of him before?

$110 each? That's not much of a deal. That's face value for endzones and corners in the lower level, which is where my seats are. If it's on the sidelines or midfield, then it might be a decent deal. Or maybe the deal comes with some type of food or merchandise voucher?

The secondary market has been horrible (for sellers) for a while. I think one game last year had $5 tickets on stubhub. Several years ago, I bought a parking pass on craigslist. When I met the person for the exchange, she gave me three UL tickets. I couldn't get in contact with a friend of mine that morning, so I just drove towards the stadium and gave them away to some teenagers at Largo Town Center. They were excited and started sprinting towards the stadium.

Winning cures all, though. That 2012 Sunday night game against Dallas for the division, I could have got about 5x face value for my seats.

I've been to numerous games in the past where there's always a handful of idiots in Cowboy jerseys. I've never understood that. Attention whoring at it's finest.

They signed Will Blackmon when they put Ihenacho on IR.

But they did just send Bates back to the PS. Not sure if they filled his spot yet.

I'm sure there's some possibility of Griffin being cut, too. Culliver, Hall, Breeland, Blackmon, Rogers, and Amerson are in contention for DB spots. I just think Amerson could be on the hot seat from that group.

Yes, sadly, having to deal with the plethora of Eagles fans is part of the reason I just don't want to go. It will be annoying...unless we're 2-1 and they're 1-2 or 0-3...which isn't going to happen.

I probably won't be going to the Dallas game either since it's a night game and I'm getting old and don't want to be out late.

Anyone hear Cooley do his grades yesterday? Curious what his thoughts on Cousins were.
A lot of Bs across the board, including Cousins.
Shocked, shocked I tell you that Cooley wouldn't bash Cousins.
Sheehan gave him a ####### B+
Actually surprised Sheehan was that low on him. So glad I gave up listening to sports talk around here.

Curious to know what Cooley and Sheehan gave Griffin last year for his Week 1 start. Bet it was lower than what they gave Cousins
