True story...I've lived in FL since 2009 and haven't been affected by a hurricane  (including this one). Meanwhile, my old home in NJ has had multiple hurricanes (including Sandy) along with boatloads of snow.

I think people sometimes misunderstand and think that ALL of FL gets hit by a hurricane every year or at least every other year.
It seems like they used to

Kind of been a running joke for me too.....

People who stay through a storm of this magnitude make me angry. You aren't going to be able to save anything by staying there. Save your life. And think about the lives of the first responders you are now putting in danger by being stubborn and staying put.

So the latest update now has the cone of Mathew missing Palm Beach county.

T&P to everyone north of Jupiter.

Im thankful that my family won't have to go through this.

We're a good 20+ miles inland and out of flood plain so riding it out.

Local Mets calling for gusts to 60 inland.

Sounds like Jax Beach and Saint Johns county beaches could be devastated.

TPC Sawgrass could be under 10+ feet of storm surge.

My wife flew down to KW for a bachelorette party.  It's fine down there.  My kids school got cancelled, so long weekend at home for us.

I know Rick Scott has drawn a lot of criticism for policies and such but he has worked his ### off this hurricane

Possibly the first time I've been able to listen to him without cringing. He's not pulling punches either, telling people that they Will lose power, and there will be deaths.

Nicole, which wasn't supposed to develop, is now a Cat2. Wonder how these 2 are going to play together...

If anyone is interested, Partners in Health is asking for donations to Haiti.

I just went for a mini walk in the front of the house.... if this is as bad as it gets it's a bust here in palm beach county.

It's north east of you, you're getting the 6 to 9 winds on the clock, way more mild than the 12 to 3 winds and it will most likely move closer to shore as well, be thankful.

2am update, winds continue to drop but the pressure is steady

Code:
SUMMARY OF 200 AM EDT...0600 UTC...INFORMATION
----------------------------------------------
LOCATION...27.6N 79.7W
ABOUT 45 MI...70 KM E OF VERO BEACH FLORIDA
ABOUT 80 MI...125 KM SE OF CAPE CANAVERAL FLORIDA
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...120 MPH...195 KM/H
PRESENT MOVEMENT...NW OR 325 DEGREES AT 14 MPH...22 KM/H
MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...938 MB...27.70 INCHES

I'm guessing the top end winds are dropping due to the dual eye formation which lowers the maximum intensity but widens the area that gets hit with hurricane force winds

It seems to have weakened and its tracking east just offshore.  Still extremely dangerous, but those are both good things.

If it stays center line on the current track I'm seeing, the eye may never make full landfall. That's a big if, but at this point, I'll take any good news. Getting direct hits from the east, now getting some wrap around gusts from the northwest here in Orlando area.

5am update, pretty much the same as the 2am

Code:
SUMMARY OF 500 AM EDT...0900 UTC...INFORMATION
----------------------------------------------
LOCATION...28.2N 80.0W
ABOUT 40 MI...65 KM ESE OF CAPE CANAVERAL FLORIDA
ABOUT 90 MI...150 KM SE OF DAYTONA BEACH FLORIDA
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...120 MPH...195 KM/H
PRESENT MOVEMENT...NNW OR 330 DEGREES AT 13 MPH...20 KM/H
MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...938 MB...27.70 INCHES

The radar shows a massive part of the outer eye wall about to make contact with Cape Canaveral. The next 2 to 3 hours are going to be brutal in that area in around the Cape, it jets out and has no place to hide.

Florida seems to be really lucky so far.  It's almost like this guy Matthew can sense the land and stays off it.  It's crazy.
