Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (2 Viewers)

If Cruz can steal enough delegates in the south and Kasich can block trump in the north and Midwest, it could be interesting.

 
According to that book Double Down Chris Christie was begged to get into the race in 2012. He would have won the nomination, probably. He was popular with all parts of the GOP back then. This was before the Obama hug, the bridge scandal. He chose not to run.

This time around, not only did he start without the trust of the base, his bombastic style was overshadowed by Trump. Christie could never catch up. He had his best debate Saturday night but it was far too late.

Could he have beaten Obama in 2012? I think so yeah. Look at his election a year later. Democrats, Latinos, even black's voted for him in big numbers. Again, before the bridge scandal. I guess in politics timing is everything...

Those are good points but CC did Trump a huge favor by kneecapping Rubio, he could have turned that laser attack on Trump but didn't. I'm guessing CC knew more personally about Trump's activities in Jersey than anyone in the field but did zero with that knowledge. Giant and I do mean 'giant' waste.

 
All these recycled losers and career politicians need to get the #### out of Trump's way so that we can fix this country.

 
I think Rubio has one shot in the next debate to put the robot behind him. If he can't break out of it, he's done. Maybe Christie did him a favor...we'll see.

So, does anyone else have an issue with these ads using little kids? Something doesn't seem right about using little kids in smear ads. Is it just me?

Not for me. I voted for Obama. It's not that he's black. It's that he's sucked. I've never felt so betrayed by anyone I've ever voted for. He's been so divisive on race and weak on foreign policy. And like I said, I voted for him. And my nephew worked for him.
 
Hey, I'm simply repeating a question that's being thrown out there a lot, on television, in articles, etc. I'm not sure I agree with it but I think it's an interesting question. Nobody can deny that Trump supporters are almost overwhelmingly white. Nobody can deny that Trump is/was a Birther who challenged Obama's legitimacy. At least 40% of all Republicans believe Obama is a Muslim. How many of these are Trump supporters?

There was a white guy not named Bush people could have voted for.Obama, in his first election, won 43% of the white vote, the second-highest number for a Democrat since Carter. His 39% in 2012 puts him further down the list of Democrats in the last 10 elections, but only slightly below the average 40.6% share for Democrats through the years.

Not a very compelling case for racism.

As of Feb 1, Jeb's campaign still loaded and has about $68 million left. No way he should bail. He has enough cash to wait out the others IMO. Rubio has $24 MM, Cruz $50 MM, and Trump has $7.2MM left. Trump's campaign has only spent $14 MM compared to Jeb's almost $90 MM, but the Don is going to need to pony up more cash for the long haul.

This is what has occurred to me. Though the media here is very willing to play along, they are making money off of Trump by the ratings, he uses them and corrupts them that way. Nobody really reports on him. And the GOP is just as bad as it has compromised itself by allowing itself to be addicted to the high turnout and the high ratings with the false notion they can parlay that for their own gain, and instead they may be devoured by it. The people who want to drag Hitler into this are way off base IMO. Maybe try Berlusconi with a dash of Il Duce.

Really? Which parts specifically are way over the top demonizing? It seems pretty dead on to me, and I note that beside a couple lines, the article had little to do with any alleged racism or sexism. I thought the most insightful observation was regarding Trump's complete lack of shame, which results in the elimination of most moderating influences on behavior. You don't think that's an accurate take? Ezra even acknowledges that he's more of a moderate than a hard core conservative given his views on several prominent issues. Sure it's a negative article, but the observations appeared far more grounded in thoughtful observation than your run of the mill hit piece.

May want to take another look after 7 years of Barack. Pretty much every economic indicator of the black population has went down, including jobs & wages. So is Obama racist against black's? This is just so ignoramous that it's stupid beyond stupid.

Jesus, Jeb Bush spent $36million dollars in New Hampshire and all he got for his troubles was a 4th place and was once again shown up by the Big Bully when Trump trumped his speech by jumping in exactly 39 seconds after Jeb! started which meant that every news channel flipped to Trump's speech leaving poor Jeb! to beg for applause.

But what is more amazing is how inept Jeb! has been at campaigning, the only thin more amazing is how masterful he has been in fundraising.

Jeb spent $1150 per vote he received in the Granite State..that is absolutely nuts, he would have been better off directly giving people money, I bet $500 per vote could have gotten him at least the same results he got.

For a point of reference, Cruz spent only $18 per vote and spent about 5 minutes in New Hampshire, Trump spent $40 per vote which isn't a fair comparison because he gets so much free air-time and publicity but even the other "establishment" candidates spent significantly less than Jeb!!

Here is the rundown

Jeb! $1150 per vote

I'm not one to speak out about conspicuous consumption, but this is disgusting. I guess a lot of tv and marketing company employees and political consultants have just made a ton of bank, but lord what a waste of resources.

$14 million in Iowa, $36 million in New Hampshire. Total of $50,000,000 and he has gotten a total of 36,000 votes in the two states. That is crazy, about $1400 per vote

Huh? You guys realize that Trump is at record levels of dislike for a major candidate and Sanders is one of the best liked candidates around? Sanders has been debating for 40+ years.
