*Official 2016 Philadelphia Eagles* - The year of Change (1 Viewer)

Who is the DC going to be? Flajole? Or can he pry Sutton away?
Word is that Flajole is the LB coach
That would be awesome. Where'd you hear that? I've read that he may be the DC. Weird that he'd accept the job as UTEP DC this morning and it be announced, and then suddenly instantly change his mind just to be an NFL LB coach again. If we get Sutton to come with Doug that would be fantastic.

Pederson will bring a good offensive mind to the job. WCO for sure, as he's the fruit of the GB tree, Andy Reid's version. The offense never really struggled under Andy. And it hasn't struggled in KC with one caveat:

WR talent. Philly wasted opportunity under Reid throwing out mediocre/poor WRs. The offense took off with TO, and later DJax and Maclin. Same in KC... until Maclin arrived. Pederson was the OC of the Chiefs in 2014 with the 'zero TDs to WR's stat.'. Hopefully, Doug has seen firsthand what the offense he was raised up on requires.

Another aspect of the Reid offense that struggled was clock management. Andy turned that over to Pederson in KC... and it's been much better.

So, Reid-esque with a focus on offensive weapons on the edge and clock management. Ok.

--------

Summed up by my fave Iggle, Weapon X:

Brian Dawkins threw some praise in Pederson's direction during his hit on 97.5 The Fanatic Tuesday, but said a major question remains.

"Well Doug was a very, very, very smart dude -- like very smart," said
Brian Dawkins
. "There's a reason why
Andy [Reid]
brought him here (for that 1999 season) and we all knew it: it was to teach guys the offense. So he's been a coach, he's been teaching for a long time. And obviously the offense began to struggle a little too much and they brought
Donovan [McNabb]
in, but he was the one that guys leaned on in the huddle, telling guys where to go, this is what you need to do, and so he was the coach on the field. That's the Doug that I remember. That is a great thing: to have football acumen; to be able to talk about the game; to be able to coach; to be able to take it from your head as a player and be able to deliver it to somebody and allow them to receive it themselves and then go ahead and have success with it...
"This is the unknown factor of Doug: can he be a coach that can stand in front of the Philadelphia Eagles team and grab that respect? Does he have that type of personality to do what he needs to do to get guys to buy in, to get in line and stay in line. I'm talking about discipline. I'm talking about the accountability that has been lacking in that locker room...that's where Doug, not concerns me, but that's a question mark."

I suddenly i'm reminded of that galling stat from last year where the Chiefs went an entire season without a touchdown pass to a wide receiver.

This feels like the warm milk of head coach decisions. We should change the team colors to beige on beige .

Who is the DC going to be? Flajole? Or can he pry Sutton away?
As a Chiefs fan, I'd actually be pretty pissed if that happened. Pederson, meh - hasn't really done much. Thought Sutton and Toub (Our ST coach) would become HCs before Pederson, to be honest.

Ya I'm not sure if Sutton's best option is to stay with a great defense and current system, or go try to fix a broken one. It all depends if him and Doug were super close or if him and Andy were super close. I don't really imagine he'd want to come over but I'm hoping him and Doug were very close and he'll hitch along with him. Given the options, I'd be thrilled with a Pederson, Sutton, Shurmur, Flajole staff and Sam at QB.

@donbanks: source says Eagles have I nterest in Jim Schwartz as defensive coordinator. Do not know if he's Doug Pederson's DC choice, or the team's?

That would be a good hire. Schwartz is a tough guy type. Our defense could use that. Plus he has head coaching experience, which would be helpful to Pedersen.

Avant/Kelce on Pederson:

Pederson has an amiable personality, but Avant said that he was "stern enough" to be a head coach. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who is the younger brother of Eagles center Jason Kelce, said the No. 1 attribute that made Pederson capable of being a good head coach was that he's relatable.

"One, he's relatable. Two, the guy's brilliant," Kelce said. "In terms of an offensive mind, I don't know how much better they get. He understands what defensive coaches want to present. He understands strategy.

"But for the most part, he's a relatable guy. Guys want to play for him. It's hard to describe that. His character kind of makes it easy to be yourself and go out there and do the things you need to do."

Sounds like the anti-Chip

Seems like the combo between Reid (relatable, players want to play for him) and Chip (great offensive mind).

The optimistic part of me is going to try to convince myself that Pederson will be the best of both :P

Doug might be great, has lots of brains and is a 'players' coach. Has some WCO experience as a player and coach, but with limited play calling experience and no previous HC experience, I would like an OC with some of that on his resume. Shurmur is fine, but whoever Doug wants.

Much like most of Missouri, he's been in Reid's shadow his entire tenure as OC in KC. An enigma wrapped in a riddle.

Sports radio must be broadcasting live from the Walt Whitman bridge. :lmao: My god you might think we just found out Rich Kotite Jr. was just hired. I'm not doing a headstand in excitement, but give the guy a minute, at least hear him talk before you say "I'm not an Eagles fan until Lurie sells the team". :lmao:

I was only in high school when Andy was hired but I imagine many of the same types of calls occurred.

Ya I'm sure everyone by now knows not to listen to sports radio calls for any cool headed responses. Who would all these people rather we hire? Right now it's Shurmur or Doug. We picked the right guy.

Yeah, honestly one of the worst things i hate about being an Eagles fan is half of the fan-base. Drive me nuts. I'd love to hear people complain about Lurie, obviously they weren't around when Norman Braman was the owner

I really hope this wasn't the case. If it was, Lurie should have never fired Chip (unless he has wanted Pederson for some time). I don't really believe any of the information with coaching changes because it is 85% inaccurate, but if the Eagles did want to start the search early, and go through all of this for a guy who wasn't scheduled to interview with anybody, i will begin to be legit concerned for this franchise

Eskin: Just spoke w #eagles TE Brent Celek. "Was here with Doug Pederson(as QB coach) and love him" @FOX29philly

The one guy calling in calm with a level head was screamed at and hung up on. Gold. :lmao:

Anthony Gargano is saying he hears it's Brad Chikdress for OC
good god.

I am open to Pederson, but combined with going back to Childress seems uninspiring. Lurie probably wishes he had just kept Reid all along.

Schwartz sounds pretty good to me as DC.

Some good comments from Dawk and the Chiefs' guys about Pederson. Certainly will be interesting now with Chip landing another gig.

poor eagles have to settle even though they had the head start. gase picks miami, hue wants nothing to do with the roster, and now couglin declines the job after hearing they dont want to resign bradford. at this point it was pederson or begging chip to come back.

I'm hearing that Shurmur will stay on as QB coach. And Spagnuolo will return to coach DBs. Also, Ron Rivera and Jon Harbaugh will step down and take the LB and ST coaching jobs.

We're getting the band back together!

Take Pederson over the wrong Gruden any day of the week.

Some nice comments here from those who worked with and played with Doug Pederson (and a few players):

Shefter is reporting that Lurie is asking for Christina back and unconfirmed reports of a seance has begun to bring back JJ.

I don't expect people to trash him personall in their comments, but seeing the number of people saying that he has a brilliant football mind is surprising and encouraging.

Yea well Ant also wanted Spags as HC. So take him with a mountain of salt.
Seeing Childress and Shurmur being mentioned by several talking heads. Both have extensive play calling experience in the WCO Doug Pederson brings, and HC experience. Both worked with him before, as well. Seem like two very logical names. Not excited by either, but they have their merits.

DC Pettine and Schwartz getting mentions. Wide open there. Seems Flajole is NOT the DC.

Has Childress even been in football since the Vikings canned him?

He's been the spread game analyst for Andy since he got to KC (at least he was the last that I knew).

Personality always been a selling point for Pederson, IMO. Likeable, good 'people person' who relates to teammates and players, and very cerebral.

It is kind of cool that a former Eagle player is now the Eagle HC. Haven't had that since Marion Campbell.

he's still riding high because his team got one extra game to get their noses slapped and show they had no business in the playoffs.

"Spread Game Analyst" and "Special Projects Manager" in KC. Whatever the heck those are. And he was the Brown's OC in 2012.
