*Official 2016 Philadelphia Eagles* - The year of Change (1 Viewer)

i really am not sure what i think about this:

Eagles hired Greg Lewis as wide receivers coach.

Lewis has a history with Philadelphia, having played there from 2003-08 and working for the Eagles as a coaching intern in 2012. He was an assistant receivers coach with the Saints in 2015. Philadelphia's previous wide receivers coach, Bob Bicknell, has already joined Chip Kelly's staff in San Francisco.

Hope hes a much better coach than player
I don't ever remember Lewis being out of position or running the wrong routes. He just didn't have the talent to play like the studs. Those kind of guys usually know the game inside and out to make up for their lack of ability. If nothing else he'll be better than the last guy by default.

Lewis has been an intern and assistant so he knows what he's doing and seems to be making the natural progression. I kind of like the hire.

Not trying to slam him, but I just remember thinking he was going to be a better wr after that superbowl year. Maybe it was the system or whatever but he was just a another guy

Is there another fanbase where posts are dedicated to the in and outs of the WR coach? Pretty amazing I think.

That's what I mean. Guy probably knew the playbook like the back of his hand but didn't have a 1/10th of the talent of a TO. Yet hung on for 5 seasons because he was smart. Sounds like a good coach to me.

Curious how these MLB's will shake out. Hicks could be a beast - but Hendricks and Alonso in the mix too. Either of them suited to play OLB in a 4-3?

I couldn't find the article that said it but I'm 99% sure they said Kiko was going to be, or was, the WLB under Schwartz in Buffalo

:lmao:

At least he doesn't have very big shoes to fill. Not sure if it's possible to have more drops.

Was going to be maybe, he was hurt that year. He got all those tackles under Pettine.. I could see one of them manning the WLB though. Alonso assuming he's got his act together though...

Another full offseason to heal I think will really help him, as will being with Schwartz. Excited for Kiko next year.

I thought he only had 1 year left on his deal when we got him, isn't he a FA?

Nope, one more year left

Texans LBs coach Mike Vrabel has turned down the 49ers' defensive coordinator vacancy.

Chip going to have a hard time finding a DC. I have a feeling Davis gets hired there and this page blows up

heard an interesting thing about the new OC (Reich) on sports radio today. i liked the hire in the first place cause getting San Diego to compete offensively with a bad OL and not many weapons was impressive. But they said he was also the QB to lead the biggest comeback in CFB history and in NFL history. I briefly remember him in the NFL, but it is nice having that kind of poise and persistence on the team.

I can't remember being behind the asst. coaching staff so much, let's hope they actually can prodcue something on the field

Agree. Very happy with the hires

I remember the Buffalo vs Houston game like it was yesterday. It was the most memorable non Eagles game I've ever listened to and watched. I remember watching the whole thing up until the Bills were within 10 or so and then we had to drive somewhere as a family. My dad managed to get an AM station with the game on and we listened as Reich led them all the way back. Right before they took the lead, the station went out cause we went under some power lines but after we came out from under them, the announcer faded back in to see "Unbelievable!".

That game made me a bigger football fan overall than I had been. I was only 11 at the time I think.

Was in the military and stationed in Florida watching this game at a local sports bar with a Buffalo fan. Felt just terrible for Warren Moon. :( . But is WAS an awesome comeback.

And IIRC the Randall-Herschel Eagles beat the Saints in the second game that day for their first playoff win in 12 years. Great football day

"The Goldbergs" had a great story line last night about being an Eagles fan in the 80's (and not much has changed, really.)

Adam: It was fall 1980-something, and Barry and my dad were sitting down to what they did every Sunday... Watch The Eagles...

Murray: Fumble?! No! That's it. Season's over.

Barry: It's the first game of the year.

Murray: They already blew it. We've got to fire the coach and start thinking about next year.

Adam: Whenever they'd watch, my dad would turn on the team, while my brother was hopelessly positive.

Barry: Look, all we need is a turnover, a touchdown, a 2-point conversion, an onside kick, and two more touchdowns.

Murray: Or 12 safeties. Turn it off! I can't take it anymore.

2 point conversion in the 80's? C'mon TV, get your facts right.

Chip going to have a hard time finding a DC. I have a feeling Davis gets hired there and this page blows up
posted this in the Chip Kelly thread:

I think coaching defense for Chip Kelly was a factor, but it is also likely that Vrabel will be the Texan's DC next year (2017) as Romeo Crennel's contract is up after 2016. The Texans really like Vrabel and have probably made him some sort of verbal commitment.

How many times (seriously asking) do you see a position coach have a shot at a coordinator job and turn it down? Doesn't seem like often at all. I also saw that he made his decision after meeting with or talking to Belechek.

Thats smart. You don't want your first coordinator jobs to be with Chip Kelly. He's going to make you look awful and you may not get a shot again

Very rare. Which is why I think Vrabel has a commitment with the Texans. Even with having to coach a Chip Kelly defense, if it was his only opportunity right now, I have a hard time seeing him turn it down.

Heard rumblings of a potential interest in Josh Gordon. Now that Chip's "culture" is no longer an issue, wonder if we might look into him. Not sure a brand new HC would want to take such a risk and bring more attention to us, but man, having Josh on this team would bring all that "exciting offense' talk back.

No surprise here, but Eagles are trying to extend Vinny Curry, Lane Johnson, and Zach Ertz
In a perfect scenario I would see all three extended, Cox resigned, and Jeff Allen (G) signed via FA from KC. Put him next to Kelce and he's an upgrade and should also help Kelce.

Yup. I remember I couldn't wait for my next issue of Sport Illustrated for their coverage on the Eagles' win. Nothing. Not a mention or even the score. It was all about the "comeback". I cancelled my subscription.

Given the money we blew on RB's last year I don't know that we should go after a top FA guard IMO.
Paying a G big money is fool's gold anyway, but I definitely think they should be looking for 1-2 mid level guys with a bit of starting experience IMO. Guys with a profile like Mathis when he got here. Won't be the same massive home run as that was but we have to at least get competent there if we're going to improve. Not sure what Stoutland did to be retained either. I know he didn't have the greatest talents to work with, but none of his guys exactly over achieved either. Would love to know what he told Kelly about Babre, Tobin and Gardner as well.

wouldn't mind this at all. His last drug test was kind of shakey with results, and he was being tested more than i ever heard of. Worst he did was smoke pot right? i don't remember him being a big issue on teams or off the field beside smoking pot, so to me it would be an ok move. Structure the contract so if he stays in line he gets good money, if not he doesn't

I know we have a lot of other needs, but I have seen Treadwell going to us in a few mock drafts..

WR is not our priority, but we could use an upgrade, and I think he could be our #1. I was quite opposed to this, but it is growing on me.

Thought?

After looking at about 30 mock drafts, the predominant theme seems to be we're drafting a QB because Pederson is a new coach. There was about 20 that had us taking a QB (Goff, Lynch, Wentz hell even Prescott). About 8 said an OT of some kind and 2 went Dline.

I guess traditionally it makes sense but we'll see.

Saw this too on some mock draft. Honestly, BPA IMO. If that means WR, so be it. I could live with Bradford throwing to Agholor/Treadwell/Matthews/Ertz with Murray and Mathews at RB. We would have to focus on OLine in FA and/or with the 2 thirds they hold, but that would be a very good collection of skill position talent.

I could live with a solid defensive contributor with #13 as well. And, if there is a QB they love and he's there, that's fine too. They are hard to acquire. What they do re: Bradford will speak largely on this topic, obviously.

Just hit on #13. Last 5 first round picks are a mixed bag: Watkins and Smith were very bad. Cox and Johnson were very good. Jury is still out on Agholor especially after an unproductive rookie year and now changing systems, but nevertheless I need to see a big jump in year 2.

Interested at this point to see who they extend and retain, what FA's they sign to gain a better idea re: 'trajectory' and offensive/defensive philosophy.

If Gordon is reinstated I'm totally fine with adding him
One good thing about the coaching change. This is actually a possibility.
Not sure what the cost would be to acquire him
I'd do cartwheels if we got him. I could care less if he partakes of a little herb to relax.Oh and saw on BleedingGreen that Huff is unhappy and wants out. Please don't let the door hit you in the ### on the way out Josh. And take the Honkey with you while you're at it.

With the assumption we resign Curry (already reached out to him, Lane Johnson, and. Ertz: http://www.nj.com/eagles/index.ssf/2016/01/eagles_prioritizing_lane_johnson_zach_ertz_and_vin.html) then the front 7 under new DC Schwartz would look like...

DE Curry. DT Cox. DT Logan. DE Barwin

WIL Alonso. MIKE Hicks SAM Kendricks

with a drastic change in TOP and some depth (Ryans, Allen, etc.) this group could be very much improved in 2016.
You don't think Graham slides in at DE over Barwin? I figured that would be a natural fit for Graham. Barwins doesn't really fit in a 4-3. I'm sure he can play but he's much more effective in the 3-4 IMO.

Shurmur lands in Minnesota but not in an OC role. Doesn't seem like Pederson had ANY interest in keeping him around.

He's nothing special. Only connection he had was with Bradford. Maybe the front office made their intentions known to him or vice versa. At this point I think it's 25% Bradford is back. Looking more and more like he's gone.
