*Official 2016 Philadelphia Eagles* - The year of Change (1 Viewer)

Sucks but what we're you guys expected after Chip left a terd roster and we traded our starting QB a week before the season? I think it's pretty amazing were at where we are and are young QB is getting some experience under the belt. Would love to see them make a run at the division but honestly didn't know if we would win this many games all season coming in.

Division is gone. Dallas 3 games up now and looking strong. Only things that's stopping them from winning the division is if they let Romo back in there.

Carson threw high and tossed 2 picks right off the bat.  Put us in a big hole.

We clawed back slowly but Doug went for it on 4th and short in FG range TWICE, and failed both times.  Hit either of those FGs and we win the game (we were in FG range at end of game and would have only been down 2)

Also got a FG blocked.

Brutal.
Damn.  kinda glad I didn't watch

Hey at least Wentz is getting a year under his belt as opposed to a Bradford season of the same. Dallas is loaded with talent we need to fill some holes but have a good D and a QB which is why I'm not too down overall compared to last year.

Both times he went for it instead of kicking were mistakes and were compounded by the horrendous play calls he came up with.

Then he decides to kick a meaningless FG in the 4th instead of going for it.  Sure it was 4th and 10, but he should have realized he needed a TD and was in 4 down territory and should have called a 3rd down play to make 4th more manageable instead of throwing an overthrown prayer to DGB who couldn't catch a cold yesterday.

I disagree with the assumption that we would only have been down 2 at the end of the game though.  If it was closer, the Giants wouldn't have been so conservative and probably would have played it differently.

This was my thought too but at this point I'm worried about the errors in judgement from Doug.  I was hoping he was just overwhelmed and they were growing pains but maybe this is just who he is.

Eagles fans can you please shed some light on this Sproles Mathews usage?  Sproles is not an every down back.  Usually with a great defense and a rookie QB or a mediocre QB you deploy a power running game to control the tempo.  Think of KC, Den, Dal.   No wonder the coaching staff lost the division.  I have no idea what the love is for Wentz.  He's still got a ways to go and your best "player" is your DEF.

You know just as much as we do.

Which is the same thing that everyone on earth not named Doug Pederson knows, namely that you don't rush the smallest RB in NFL history in short yardage situations.

As far as the Wentz love, I'll just guess you haven't watched many full Eagles games this season.

I didn't mind that fact that we were going for it in those situations. We got into an early hole and he was being aggressive. But WHY in the name of Zeus's butthole would you use your SMALLEST running back (who gets knocked down if the wind blows too hard) and run a pitch or sweep?? Put Mathews in there behind a full back and let him plow straight ahead for one yard. Sproles is not a power-back. I love the little dude, but let's call a spade a spade.. he's MUCH more effective in space, not trying to move the pile. It was infuriating. The play-calling was highly suspect yesterday, especially in critical short yardage situations.

Where to begin.....I want to preface all of this with saying that now being through the half way point in the season that I am still happy with where we are and what we've shown.  As it stands now it looks like we have seen the best and the worst of this team through 8 games. A lot of our wins were due to great coaching and I believe our loses are related to the coaching as well...especially these past 2 games.  Coming into the season we were arguably the least talented team in the division and after our first trip through it I believe that holds true. With that said, I believe we're closer than what we'll hear all week.  Here's a few of my thoughts from yesterdays game:

Outside of injuries happening the first half of this game it was one of the worst coached in recent memory.  I have no issue with Doug wanting to be aggressive but you have to pick and choose wisely and he was just random.  Down 14, on the road, after your QB has thrown back to back picks you HAVE to put points on the board any time you can.  Felt like he was being aggressive just for the F of it.

After the first 8 games I really cant figure out what's going on with the RB's.  There was a point yesterday where I thought Smallwood would get more carries and we never saw him again.  Sproles is easily our best RB but Barner and Smallwood should be getting more time IMO.  I can only figure that as an ex-player Doug feels like he owes Matthews something.  When you just watch the 4 RB's Matthews looks like he shouldn't be getting any carries.

Time for my weekly Ertz bashing...does he ever break a tackle?  Wasn't it awesome to see him slide down to avoid contact as well?  How tradable is he?

This season is just about Wentz.  So long as he can stay healthy and keep learning that's all I really care about.  With yesterdays game he has already played more games this year then he did last year.  These skill guys aren't going to help him, they just are what they are.  Watching how Jordan Matthews moves to the ball you can see just how unnatural he is.  There are so many WR's in the league today who adjust to that ball and make the catch or get their hands on the ball.

Honestly, given what we have on offense.....how did we win 4 games?

Brandon Graham is way underpaid and Fletcher Cox looks way overpaid.

Schwartz is getting a lot more than I expected from his unit.  Guys like Hicks and Bradaham look like good players as well.

How the refs miss that roughing the kicker and roughing the passer are just beyond me.

Not to distract from the poor coaching and play, but how is it that we have refs routinely miss that Ricky tack stuff we always get called for every week? Hoe do they miss a kicker getting completely taken out or 2 hands slapping a QBs helmet? That's the stuff they'd never miss for our guys. I mean they called Sproles for a chop block because he's like 4' tall.

Again just anecdotal but it sure seems there's a lot of "shucks we missed that one" against us.

I have no idea.  Aikman tried to be nice by saying "Oh he's a rookie so maybe that's why he didn't get the call" or something like that.  They weren't even close calls either.

What an idiot.  A 31 year old scat back as lead in order to protect your rookie QB?   Huge Sproles fan here btw.  But yeah way to get Sproles injured.

Pederson acknowledged he needs to focus more on running the ball & having Wentz throw less rest of season. Said Sproles will be lead back.

Probably shouldn't have drafted Mathews. You can still pick up Smallwood. He probably has a shot to get those grind em out yards. Mathews blew his chance with the fumbles. They fed the guy the first 2 weeks.

Yeah,  Honestly Matthews has no business getting carries unless someone gets hurt.  He offers very little

Quite true but I'm holding on.  Sproles will get injured.  And with that the Eagles will lose one of their main weapons due to stupidity.

I'm watching tonight's Bills vs Seahawks game and there is no way in hell any of our WR's make those plays. Tonight's game is a very good game on all phases of the game.

But once again this season Ref's trying to screw it up.

Bills look like they could be a spoiler in the AFC.

Atlanta gives up a lot of yards on D.  Also their top CB is out.  Could be a crazy day of throwing the ball for Wentz.  Ertz keeps it rolling I think

Wentz has to have his best day as a qb for us to keep up and win this one.  atl is gonna score

Agree with most of this, but not the bolded. If you watch play by play, you'll find Cox is double teamed 90%+ of the time. Any time a DT requires double teaming like that, he's effective, even if he never touches the QB or a ball-carrier.

My God how wrong was Chip & Co on DeMarco Murray? Stud in Dallas; questionably overpaid in Philly then wrongly used and ignored; barely traded for some magic beans; now a stud again Tenn.  Can't imagine what he would do under Pederson.

Confirmation that Chip is indeed, an idiot.

Huge win.  Lots of things went the opposite way as last week which is huge.

Pulled out a clutch win that was somewhat down to the wire (didn't last week)
Mathews was massive (wasn't last week)
Doug was smart in his decision making (wasn't last week)

Still undefeated at home, and only road win being in Chicago.  Huge test in the toughest place to play in the NFL next week (besides Philly ;) )

Big win.....Vikings also apparently want us to get a better draft pick.
At first I was hoping they'd make the NFC Championship game so our future pick moved up a round.  But at this point since that doesn't look likely, I'm fully hoping they lose every game the rest of the season.  The fact that their pick that we get might be better than our pick that we lose is awesome.

In Sam we trust.

I know we get exasperated at times with Doug and Wentz when they make rookie mistakes but you can't help but be impressed with the creativity the team shows and the willingness to keep trying new things instead of forcing a system. It was a thing of violent beauty to see those 6 man lines MAULING the Falcons.

I want to see that next week on the road.

Division is over. Thanks for playing. Dallas is getting Home field.

On the plus side we might have 2 wild cards from the NFC East. The down side is we might not be either of them.

Our entire team rushed the ball well. If I'm not mistaken he average around 5 ypc and that was still 3rd behind Smallwood and Sproles.

The OL did a great job today. Mathews still isn't any good IMO.
Wasn't even looking at YPC.  To deny the eye test is silly.  He looked GOOD today.  Explosive, elusive, protected the ball well, etc.

Go back and watch. You will see a common theme--on just about every decent run he had he wasn't event touched until into the second level

He looked like all those things you said because of the OL.
