*Official 2016 Philadelphia Eagles* - The year of Change (1 Viewer)

Rough schedule, Wentz is back in rookie mode (which is normal), and we just aren't scaring anyone with these WR's.  Main focus this last half of the season should be finishing strong, take care of business at home, and clean up the mistakes.  We aren't making the playoffs - or if we do, we're not going far.  That's ok - lets have some good stuff to build off though.

I get it, trust me.  But for a shot at playoffs we need Dallas to win.
At this point, here's what I have left to root for (outside of progress/development of Wentz, etc.) this season, with little confidence we can both take care of business and get some help to make the playoffs, the next 6 games:

  • Dallas wins the next 5, rests starters week 17, goes into playoffs with #1 seed, and gets blown-out in an upset or loses a gut-punch game in the divisional round.
  • The Vikings keep falling apart and finish with a worse record than us, giving us a higher draft pick than the one Cleveland received.

to be honest, this is all I have been rooting for during the last 2-3 weeks. the pieces aren't there to be a dominant team at this point. funny thing is though, the team should only have 2-3 losses. Detroit and Dallas losses were total crap, and we were in most of the games we have played. So the team isn't out of it's element, and they are a few plays away.

So its looking like Mathews will miss Monday's game against GB.  Sproles was ruled out after taking the shot against Seattle, but not sure what his availability will be this week.  Smallwood next man up, so what are people's thoughts about this cat.  I honestly don't know much about him but to my untrained eye, I've thought he's looked pretty good when his number's been called.

The good news about this year, is winning down the stretch doesn't affect our own draft position. So we can feel good about winning meaningless games (if or when we get to that point).

I think that's more a statement of the conference than this team.  The NFC is crap this year.  Eagles make too many mistakes and lack the talent to overcome them.  It's that simple.  They lost those games for a reason, their record is who they are.  In a down year for the conference, they're still just a .500 club.

This team simply put is not disciplined enough and has next to nothing at wideout.  What a disaster of a player Nelson Agholor is.  I thought Freddie Mitchell was a huge bust, at least he has caught a big pass.  I feel sorry for the kid now.  Can't cut him though because they seriously have no one that is better and that is just incredibly sad.

There is talent on the defense and I think Wentz is going to be a star QB but this coming FA and Draft should have emphasis on the skill position players.  CB as well.

And to think not more than two years ago Jackson, Maclin, and McCoy were on this team.  You go to hell Chip Kelly!  You go to hell and you die!

Just have to hope Agholor learns from this disastrous start to his career and puts in the extra work in the off-season. The said part (at least to me) is that on his big drop he actually ran and awesome route and smoked Sherman.

And it sounds like Big V will miss multiple weeks too.

Injuries from this week:

Sproles:  Broken rib in the "safe zone"- Should be able to play through the pain Monday night but might be more limited than usual
Vaitai:  Grade 2 MCL Sprain.... Sounds like he'll be out a couple weeks.  This one hurts.
McKelvin:  In league concussion protocol.  Have heard he's 50/50 to play this week.
Barwin:  Bone bruise... will be a pain tolerance thing and should play in the GB game... hopefully at 100%
Brooks:  Pulled his hamstring.  Not that severe and should play this week.
Ertz and Jenkins:  Both suffered minor knee injuries.  Might be limited in practice but both will play.
Cox: Scared the hell out of all of us but is fine.

Yuck.  Really worried about our Oline now.

Hasn't McKelvin been hurt like every week?  wow we need another solid corner

Smallwood only a minor downgrade from Mathews. Kid looks like he belongs overall but could probably use some more seasoning before extensive use. Missing Sproles sucks but I think we can overcome it against Green Bay

Based on past experience, does this mean the TE position will be used more to block than go out into pattern?  Thinking this is not Ertz's strong suit, so may cut into his playing time.  Or, with WR in shambles, do they need him as a weapon?

Don't think it affects Ertz that much.  We will reconfigure our oline and it won't be as strong but I don't think Ertz is affected much.  We may play more multiple TE sets and have Celek in there blocking though.

So i am in the camp that the Cowboys are not the world beaters that everyone is making them out to be. i took a closer look at their schedule and this is what they have had:

 GIANTS 20 COWBOYS 19

W COWBOYS 27 REDSKINS 23

W BEARS 17 COWBOYS 31

W COWBOYS 24 49ERS 17

W BENGALS 14 COWBOYS 28

W COWBOYS 30 PACKERS 16

7 BYE WEEK

W EAGLES 23 COWBOYS 29

W COWBOYS 35 BROWNS 10

W COWBOYS 35 STEELERS 30

W RAVENS 17 COWBOYS 27

now granted there wasn't a clear indication how some teams would be this year, but the NFL schedule makers really gave them a lot of lay-ups and they have had an easy road. I know that is more of luck then anything, but i wouldn't be surprised to see them avoid any schedule nightmares like the Eagles had this year

They are going to lose early in playoffs or to seahawks if they somehow make it to them.  Mark it down

Absolutely. TO this point, Dallas has played one of the NFLs easiest schedules, while the Eagles have played one of the NFLs most difficult. That changes over the last 6 weeks though... Dallas' road gets much more difficult while Philly's gets much easier. There might not be enough time to catch them, but I wouldn't be shocked one bit to find the Eagles with a shot at the division still going into week 17. Eagles can't keep dropping road games, but these last 2 are easier than most of the first 6.

Let's just hope they win tomorrow

538's sports podcast Hot Takedown has a very cool podcast on Randall Cunningham.  Grizzled Eagle fans may not learn anything new from it, but it's great to hear about Cunningham from their perspective anyway.

And the flip side is:

Every one of the Eagles' losses has been on the road to a team that is currently at least 3 games over .500.

All in all the fact that Wentz has 10 games under his belt, we will have a 1st next year mid round, and we have 5 wins I'm more than happy. Didn't think we would win this many all year.

Happy turkey day boys.

If playoffs started today, the Eagles will have faced all 6 teams in the NFC playoffs. They lost 5 of those gms by an avg of just 6 points
To add to this point, they beat the 6th (implied in your post) and beat the next team out in the playoff race (min) and beat the afc north leaders (fwiw).

so after the first two donkeys, they have essentially played 8 playoff teams in a row.

Well he played in week 5.  So he has 10 games he has to miss after that.... weeks 6-15 off.  Eligible to return week 16 vs the Giants.
got it. sucks that they took so long to come to a verdict, would have been nice to trim it to 9 weeks cause they screwed up. i thought it was week 3

agreed.  in hindsight I wish he would have just taken it in week 1.  We probably would have beaten Cle/Chi/Pitt without him and he would be coming back this week.

Hindsight is 2020
hence why I said in hindsight :P

Obviously at the time it was the right move to keep him going as long as possible.  But it's too bad he's not back this week.... our line gonna be in rough shape vs Green Bay.  Hopefully Carson can get the ball out quickly to our wide open/awful receivers.

Yeah I'm not sure we have the weapons to take advantage of gb crap defense

While I would like to see Dallas lose, I don't see it happening in the NFC. No team in the NFC can outscore them. Heck, the Seahawks couldn't even outscore the Bucs yesterday. Maybe Atlanta can keep pace for a while, but as long as Sean Lee keeps playing and Rod Marinelli keeps coaching, they have enough on defense to get a few key stops. The tough part about the Dallas offense, is they are so balanced, even if you take away one thing, they can beat you another way. Their QB has been accurate and can run with the ball. They have receivers that are possession types (Witten, Beasley), and those that can stretch the field (Bryant, Williams, Butler). They have a great RB, great OLine, and even good depth at RB.

Maybe if the Cowboys had to go to Seattle, they would have some struggles, but it looks pretty safe right now that the Cowboys will have home field advantage.

I am hoping Belicheck is able to work his magic in the Super Bowl to keep the Cowboys from winning their first ring in 21 years.

We haven't had a post since Friday and the first one we get is how we have to hope Belichek can beat the Cowboys in the Super Bowl?

Wtf people! It's Monday night football. Season is on the line every week now.

Agholor a healthy scratch tonight. Turner gonna get a few snaps.
wow.  While I'm not surprised he's not good enough to play tonight, I am surprised they actually had the balls to bench him.  Hopefully this is a gigantic wake up call for him as he has to watch the game from the sideline.
