Either way... Im looking at WR/RB or RB/WR because it keeps me flexible for the 3/4 turn to grab value.
The only thing I miss on is if I'm on the oustide of my tiers at WRs and my 2nd WR isnt quite what I hoped for (more-so in ppr). But if I take WR/WR at 1/2 and miss on the RBs I want at 3/4 I want to commit suicide. This way, I almost guarantee that one of the two players at 3/4 makes really happy with lots of added value.
Then at 5/6 I am open to most the value possible at any rb/wr/qb/te position and my team is pretty solid.
As of today, I am going WR/WR unless somehow ADP falls to me and I've seen a few mock draft results where has but you never know because half the time those mocks are a combination of humans and a computer picking. In fact, I may go WR/WR/WR/RB. With that, I retain the #1 waiver pick and surely, there will be a RB who will be worthy of using that waiver...happens ever year..and RB's are easier to find than WR's as the year goes on.
Additionally, Gronk might be there too but with Brady out and Bennet in the picture, I may pass on Gronk...
Charles, Ingram, D. Thomas, Jeffery, D. Williams, Stewart, Winston, J. Matthews, E. Sanders, Austin, Snead, Funchess, McKinnon, CMike, Ebron, Powell, Minnesota, McManus
.5 PPR.
I knew about Romo so I passed on Dez. Don't know why I passed on AJ Green, I guess I just liked the 2 RBs better and knew WR was uber deep. Definitely reached on Winston. I liked him and was targeting him after Wilson, but probably could have gotten him or comparable a couple rounds later. Just didn't see a whole lot of anything I liked.
Ebron was a great value pick and I took a lot of flyers instead of solid depth.
In my draft there were 7 receivers gone and 4 running backs. I have all of the next 7 or 8 wrs in a close tier but all mid 2nd/early 3rd rd, I don't really like any of them enough for the turn. Left unsure what to do with 2.1, then I just thought screw it and picked Ingram. I would have drafted A.Robinson if he was there.
I pretty much knew I was going with 2 wrs in the 3rd/4th. I was hoping someone might fall like landry, watkins, or even maclin but they were all gone. I like the wr's mid 4th to mid 5th better. If I could go back, I'd would have passed on Lockett and would have went te/3rd rb.
OK I had the 12th spot (12 team league) Non PPR but the following performance scoring caveats. Draft was last night.
All TD's 6 PT's
Reception of 40+ yards add 1 point
100 yards + receiving/rushing add 5 bonus
200 yards + receiving/rushing add another 5 points
20 yard or longer run add 1 point
300 yard or more passing add 5 points
1.12 - A.J Green WR
2.01 - Dez Bryant WR
3.12 - Amari Cooper WR
4.01 - Jeremy Hill RB
5.12 - Chris Ivory RB
6.01 - Derrick Henry RB
7.12 - Derrick Carr QB
8.01 - Spencer Ware RB
9.12 - Allen Hurns WR
10.01 - Devin Funchess WR
11.12 - Jason Witten TE
12.01 - Matt Ryan QB
13.12 - Alfred Morris RB
14.01 - L.A. Rams DEF
15.12 - Cairo Santos K
My strategy was pretty much Gronk and a top tier WR.....but that went out the window as Gronk was gone at #9. I was thinking about Levon Bell...but he went to the Steelers fan in my league at 8. So I was staring at:
Lamar Miller
Allen Robinson
Dez Bryant
A.J. Green
I wanted at least one elite WR but I felt taking 2 was even better as I could find some really good value at RB later (which IMO I did). Chris Ivory in standard leagues does what I need him to do...yards and TD's. I think Yeldon is a stiff. Ivory will over the course of a season get more work IMO, all goaline work as well. RB2 type numbers. I love Henry to emerge as the season wears on and become a huge part of the titans attack. Ware IMO is the lotto ticket pick you have to take a shot at to win titles. I am one of Jamal Charles biggest fans. He had won be many league titles. But he is now blown out both ACL's and his running style is all about speed and agility, hard cutting etc. I just think he is not going to be the same RB everyone remembered and I think Ware will end up carrying the ball more this season. If this proves to be true we grabbed a legit RB3 flex play (and a legit RB 1 for at least 2-3 weeks out of the gate it seems) in the 8th round.
Hurns and Funchess are solid plays. Hurns is a nice by week fill in and Funchess from everything I have read and heard out of Jacksonville, is emerging as a legit #1 WR on that team this year.
Derrick Carr is one of my breakout players this season along with Cooper. I think they explode this season. Carr is fully capable of 30-35 TD passes 4500 Yards passing and Cooper takes the next step to elite WR status. His time is now.
Everyone knows my love for Lamar Miller. But.....I saw far more value in taking two stud WR's in that draft slot. Also while Allen Robinson is a heck of a talent.....I want more proven performance in my first two picks. Dez and AJ are proven big time players whom I think will again meet their ADP expectations. I was highly impressed with Dak Presscott's rapport with Dez and feel very comfortable he will lean on both Dez and Witten early and often.
I was not pleased to be picking 12th in a 12 team league this year. Really didn't know what to do.
My top 11 were all picked 1-11 (LeVeon right before me) ... so I went for Gronk, then picked up Freeman. I hope I didn't blow it getting Charles at the 3-4 turn. I've already dropped Terrance West for Devontae Booker.
