I think he's here one more yearSo - are we going to see a Jordan Mathews trade any day now? I gotta think they're moving on now with a bunch of younger, faster options.
The only way I can see him traded is if one of these young guys looks really, really good early onI think he's here one more year
I've heard a bunch giving their contrarian opinion today. Saying we didn't come away from this draft with any starters. Barnett is Graham 2.0 ( my initial concern but after reading up on him I feel better), Sidney Jones will never play football and every one else is automatically a stiff compared to who they could have gotten.GoBirds said:Seems like the media consensus is a great draft for us and the city did a great job hosting, big win all around.
ZERO Arrests too!!!!!GoBirds said:Seems like the media consensus is a great draft for us and the city did a great job hosting, big win all around.
I don't think it's hard to argue or debate scouts have their biases too as well as coaches and GMs and such. Some scouts will overhype certain prospects as well. Some people will overhype guys in public to send wrong message to other teams so they don't know what they are doing.modogg said:the bolded can't be emphasized enough. When you realize this, it does admittedly take some of the fun out of the draft, but it is kind of silly to think people who do this year round have a worse opinion then we do. Of course the failure of many picks makes it easy to overlook their experience, but I think we can give Douglas at least 1 year, should be 2, to show that he knows what he is looking for
Good god no. Jones please change that. I don't know if he knows but it seems a lot of Sixers fans are getting sick with that saying. IfLong Ball Larry said:Sidney Jones twitter bio: Philadelphia Eagles Cornerback | Trust the Process
The good thing for Pumphrey is the fact that he has a year to learn from Sproles as a similar player. They weren't building their Super Bowl team solely on this year. That being said, they might be able to make the playoffs this year.
Rb doesn't bother me.
Smallwood fell in the draft last year over issues and he looked satisfactory at times when he was playing.
Sproles is Sproles for one more year.
Pumphrey will be given the chance to be Sproles and if he's up to the job, he'll make a nice complementary back to Smallwood or to whomever they draft next year or the year after.
The Bold i hate when people say this. It's a risk for any player this could happen too. Heck Wentz could easily go down tomorrow god for bid. Any pick is a risk no matter what. Honestly I didn't like Jones coming out as what I watched of Washington nothing really stood out to me and he never really seemed to get challenge. I was more impressed with King. Plus Jones Size concerns me considering he could get bullied by the Big WRs in our division and how his body could hold up. Jones seems more successful covering the DeSean Jackson's of the NFL. I mean I guess this is why they took Douglas a bigger guy and have Mills but given that Jones may miss all of next year with the fact I wasn't a big fan to begin with it's gonna take this guy for me actually playing really well for me to have this decision justified. I understand why people like it though I just have a difference of opinion on the guy. Either way the bolded you could say about any guy and considering my Florida biased I'd rather have Wilson who was a more physical WRs and wouldn't let these big boys in the NFC East bully him. I mean I hope the guy proves me wrong but if he doesn't then what happens? It's a huge risk IMHO drafting a guy who is already hurt. You just never know. The Noid said:The Sidnies Jones pick seems to be very polarizing. But I don't think the Eagles have any blinders about it. They know it's high-risk, but also high-reward. Good to see them at least going in that direction, deliberately.
My view: if the day before the draft, knowing we had no second-rounder in 2018, we got offered: our 2017 second-rounder straight up for a 2018 first-rounder that would be between 14-18, I think most would have jumped on it.
That's essentially what this is. You get an extra first-round talent for next year. Yes, it's possible he doesn't come back 100%, but there's a level of risk taking someone like Quincy Wilson this year, instead, who just as easily could go down the first week of training camp like we have seen happen multiple times (or not pan out, talent-wise.)
Maybe Pederson knows more about Charles and some of the staff do of him more then we know. After all he was there when he first tore his ACL. I have a feeling if Pederson knew he could contribute still he'd have jumped on him already. Also you don't know what Charles and his agent might be asking for in terms of money and contract length as well as role on the team.need2know said:I just read a report saying we don't have interest in Jamaal Charles. Not sure I believe that. Not that my expectations would be very high, but his familiarity with pederson and the offense and need of a RB make me wonder if he ends up here.
There's a report out there saying the Eagles tried to move up in the 2nd round for Cook but for whatever reason a trade up didn't come to fruition. Not much more is known on it though besides apparently they really liked McCaffery as well.Sounds like Jamaal Charles is visiting Denver so if something happens it's probably going to be quick
Marcus Smith had the same amount of sacks as Vinny Curry did.........in 200 less snaps.Inky reporting just reported on Quick Slants Eagles won't pick up 5th round option on DE Marcus Smith making him an FA after the 2017 season
So......cut Agholor? Because your question is stated one way yet you seem to answer another way.So if you had to choose Agholor or DGB as final cut to WR group, who's your guy.
For me it's DGB. Not saying he will ever be a #1 or even #2 but I can see him productive in this offense.
Agholor has be open to make plays. Seems afraid of going over the middle.
I think both have a hidden upside....So if you had to choose Agholor or DGB as final cut to WR group, who's your guy.

I hope they are right too because god for bid these two or other CBs who were on the board at that time become studs or just good players and he's either so so because of the injury or complete bust they won't hear the end of it for yrs.And now Sidney Jones, obviously all of these are pre injury
Overall I'm not sure how I feel about this pick, given the injury. He does man coverage really well, but he's not a physical press CB and he probably won't play much this year. They must like him a lot better than Quincy Wilson and Awuzie who went to the Cowboys. I hope they're right.
- Incredibly quick feet, doesn't lose anything when he flips hips to turn and carry vertical routes, mirrors WR superbly downfield in man coverage.
- Almost always lined up tight, but not strong in press. Only just enough size at 6', 186. Looks like a slightly built player. vs USC Juju Smith-Schuster (#62 overall to Steelers) wasn't bothered by Jones trying to press and made an 18yd catch after knocking Jones off balance when he tried to get physical at the top of the stem.
- Coverages were mostly either man trail where he turns his back to the QB and mirrors the WR staying on his inside hip or Cover 3, where he opened up and played outside leverage on WR and kept the QB in view. Allowed very little separation.
- Rarely challenged downfield, in 4 games I watched he was targeted so few times I really couldn't get a view on how he plays the ball in the air.
- Reacts quickly to get in the play once the ball is released, actively tries to reach the ball carrier to assist on the tackle
- Willing tackler in the run game with good technique, form tackles with good leg drive.
I'd take DGB. At this point Agholor may need a change of scenery and he's a Chip guy not a Howie/Joe/Doug guy. I could easily see them eating the money there and cutting him and excusing DGB as not having a full offseason with the team. I could also just as easily seeing both cut.jon007 said:So if you had to choose Agholor or DGB as final cut to WR group, who's your guy.

Watkins and Jeffery would be BananasSo Adam Scheftar reported that Bills aren't picking up Sammy Watkins 5th year player option and hitting FA after this coming season. He could depending on cost be an option for the long haul IMHO and still fairly young.
It's more of a fantasy right now but a lot depends on what happens this season but Carson would be set on WR for yrs if that happened. Scariest threesome in Football?Watkins and Jeffery would be Bananas
I like Pumphrey to be used in 2 back sets, lined up on the outside similar to Bell. Who do you cover with CB with Smith, Jeffery, Matthews, Ertz and Pumphrey all legit targets? If we develop Smallwood to be an inside the tackles runner, read-option could be pretty devastating.Pumpin' up Pumphrey
Someone posted it in the past page or two but even if his size might be a detriment to being an "every down back" this kid looks like he could be as explosive if not more so than Sproles. It's great that he'll have a year of tutelage under Darren. He is no North and South runner and severely needs to bulk up but he seems to have elite agility and is explosive at line of scrimmage. I do think most NFL DBs and safeties may run him down but not too sure of that. Can't wait to see what Mini-Sproles can do.
"forbid"I hope they are right too because god for bid these two or other CBs who were on the board at that time become studs or just good players and he's either so so because of the injury or complete bust they won't hear the end of it for yrs.
Not to get off topic but Cousins and Luck are rated way too high in those rankings. I could see Cousins really regressing this year after losing Jackson etc. Maybe looking at it through Midnight green glasses though.Dodd's has Wentz at #18 so far. I know it's early but I can't see the Eagles being much of a running offense.
I do see Wentz having his best year yet. More screens and misdirection plays.
Image Sproles and Pumphrey in the backfield and Wentz does a fake screen one way then throws back to another.
They already have that play and used it with Ertz.
I do agree that we will see Pumphrey a lot in the passing game.
Seems way to dynamic to keep him on the bench.

On Dodd's stats I think his TD's are low. I'm more in the 28 to 32 range.
McNabb had a great season where the screen was basically an extension of the run.
Rashard Jennings? Not sure who is left out there after ADP and Charles were scooped up.Jon Ritchie today said something about a veteran RB joining the team. Any scuttlebutt as to who he's talking about?
Blount is still out there too. Although I wouldn't want him.Rashard Jennings? Not sure who is left out there after ADP and Charles were scooped up.
I don't want Jennings, Blount I'd probably be OK with just for goal line carries. I don't even think he is that great of a GL back but you take what you can get at this point.JuniorNB said:Blount is still out there too. Although I wouldn't want him.

god for bid seems right for most churches that I've been to."forbid"
This is where I am. I don't see a problem rolling with what they have now.Was Smallwood really that bad last year?
I remember them playing the stupid RB carousel every game, randomly giving Sproles a ton of goal line touches. But I thought Wendell looked pretty good when he got the chance. Nothing special, but certainly not terrible.
