Im very curious to see how he looks on Thursday. He looked really good in very little action last season but if he gets the starting job he can be FFB gold in what I believe will be very good offense. If he's healthy
My buddy is going to be pissed now. He lives across the road from his parents and he's an Eagles fan.Tobin traded to Seattle for a 5th rounder. Hmmm
I just saw Clement las week at Chick Fila. He was with a couple other dudes that must be RBs and D backs. It's surprising how small they can look without the gear on. His arms are jacked though. He's not 5'10" and I doubt he's 215 but he looks strong as hell. On the other hand I saw Runyan at Chikies and Pete's. Good lord he's a GIANT! Ike is pretty tall but lean and looks like he could suit up right now.Blount: 6'0", 250 lbs+
Clement: 5'10", 215 lbs
Other than being slow, they are nothing alike.
I can't say I'm 100% sold on Doug but the radio here is nuts. The guy deserves at least this year. There is a lot I actually like about him. Every decision though in this city is parsed by these nimrods like separating fly shizza from pepper. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't on every single issue.People think Doug needs to get fired before the season. Wentz is the new Bobby Hoying. Eagles have no shot to win 6 games. You know the usual.
I agree Doug needs at least this year. Maybe I'm mis-remembering, but I thought when they hired him last year it was with the understanding he wasn't going to be a polished HC yet but were willing to give him a couple of seasons to grow into it. That Andy assured them Doug was going to be a great HC but needed the experience to get there.I can't say I'm 100% sold on Doug but the radio here is nuts. The guy deserves at least this year. He's got a tremendous singing voiceWhat can you tell us about Tobin?
Nope point I was trying to make to deamon was if you go somewhere you don't get to go very often I think it's okay to justify dishing out a few extra bucks. Unless you are referring to the Alshon post was nearly to give a perspective of a Bears fan I know and lives in Chicago. Will he be joining you on your family Canada trip?
I think this is one of those it's preseason lets jump the shark moments. It came from Adam Caplan who seems informed on the Eagles but BGN took a stab at this and Gowton put it at 80-20 that Blount makes the team do to the lack of talent overall and considering Pumphrey hasn't looked great either. Unless the Eagles acquire some young talent RB that a team had a surplus of or whatever I think Blount makes the team. Blount is also known for looking bad in Pre season and turns it on when the games count.Jeez, they're saying Blount may get cut???
I've said for awhile but the sports talk in general in Philly is an absolute Joke and embarrassment Two terrible stations that maybe has 1 or 2 guys who even have an ounce of knowledge on any one subject let alone multiple sports. I'm the biggest football fan out of anyone I know but I'd like to here some more Flyers talk or even general non local national level sports. I remember one day last year a host brought up soccer he got idiots calling it making fun of it and him for talking about it. I forget the station or the host (may have been one of the night guys filling in for summer vacations at day). Then you have the former players or some media member who acts like no one else should have an opinion like theirs because they've covered or played it. I was able to get WFAN and Mike Francesa (SP) on down here in Philly years ago. I remember listening it for a few days not just his show but others and they didn't talk just strictly NY Sports or Yankees/Giants etc. They had a good local mix with what was going around the league and at one point there was some golf soccer and tennis talk. What also makes me laugh is there's cities who aren't known for die hard sports fans like Philly, NYC,Chi, etc who have like 4-5 different stations and we a huge sports market only have 2? Tony Bruno talked about this on one of his podcasts this spring where he also laid into both his former stations at WIP and 97.5 for some unprofessionalism and some backstabbing that went on. He also made it a point to let be known he left on his own but was also kind of pushed out by WIP's CBS Entertainment management and it had nothing to do with Working with Josh Innes. the last time I really listened to any sports talk radio religious was when Tony Bruno had his own show. The talk shows today actually make Howard Eskin look like a god. I remember hating him and his schtick but I'd take t back to the idiots they have on either channel now.I don't live around Philly so I'm thankful I don't have to hear it. Has it been that bad? It's ####### preseason. Just hope people don't get hurt. It's not that hard to understand
They just lost one of their O line guys last preseason game. He's going there for depth.Tobin traded to Seattle for a 5th rounder. Hmmm
hard to say because there were different variables when he would get in. i would say a versatile guy for OL depth, but as a starter he needs some good talent around him to not look like a weakness. if he has to start he may be adequate, but i wouldn't want to rely on him too muchWhat can you tell us about Tobin?
He's a decent depth guy who can be a swing Tackle and play a little guard. The issue is he's not really that good at either. Decent depth guy but if you are relying on Tobin to save your Oline for injuries you got big problems. He's not terrible and from what I've heard good team character guy that should fit into that locker room. Seemed well liked in the locker room and you never heard of him having issues. He was signed as a UDFA in 2013.What can you tell us about Tobin?
I never had a huge problem with Tobin. He is what he is a decent versatile OL guy but doesn't play any position that great. Spot starter a game or 2 fine. Not an every Sunday Starter. But yeah definitely a guy who needs talent around him.hard to say because there were different variables when he would get in. i would say a versatile guy for OL depth, but as a starter he needs some good talent around him to not look like a weakness. if he has to start he may be adequate, but i wouldn't want to rely on him too much
Same for me. All I am watching is Wentz. This offense goes through Wentz. From the little I've seen I believe Wentz is in full control of this offense.I've been happy with largely ignoring the talk shows these past few weeks. Every time I tune in it's all doom and gloom. Get me to week one please.
This is probably correct but I believe the discussion is due to the Eagles' other young talent at RB. How many are they going to keep out of Blount, Pumphrey, Sproles, Clement and Smallwood? Would Clement or Pumphrey get scooped by another team if they try to get him to the practice squad? Out of those 5, Blount may be the most expendable and the most expensive.I think this is one of those it's preseason lets jump the shark moments. I don't really know him as he's a bit younger than me but he did go to the same high school as me. He's farm boy that walked on at Iowa and earned a starting position. Signed as an undrafted free agent with the Eagles. He's struggled at pass blocking but is a decent run blocker. Iowa has a reputation for developing good OL players. What can you tell us about Tobin?
We've been running a really vanilla offense. Most teams do. I won't start to worry about the offense till after a few regular season games are in.jon007 said:Same for me. All I am watching is Wentz. On a second note our offense does seem vanilla thus far in preseason. Opening with the Skins and Chiefs I am thinking Dougie is keeping his playbook limited in preseason.
Not sure if this makes any difference but all I ask during preseason is 1 win. Just get one. We've done that so I'm good.
This match up against the Fins should be good. I am curious if Dougie opens it up a bit.
That's true but Clement I think a team has to stash on the PS depending how much they value pass pro for RBs. Pumphrey has some leeway being actually drafted. Blount is the most expensive however. Its gonna be really interesting thoughAmused to Death said:This is probably correct but I believe the discussion is due to the Eagles' other young talent at RB. One guy was sweating up and down about how he cost us 3 games last year. So Missinelli is actually the most objective of the morons in town stated well you have to give him credit for the Falcons and Steelers games. The guy on the phone acted like you just told him his uncle was actually his aunt. It just didn't compute in his brain.Kwai Chang Caine said:I can't say I'm 100% sold on Doug but the radio here is nuts. The guy deserves at least this year. There is a lot I actually like about him. i don't know, worth a late round pick maybe, but even if he starts i think Sproles and someone else will see plenty of timeIs smallwood have the best cjance to be the starter right now?
I know, it's embarrassing. I heard some guy frothing at the mouth about how no one else even interviewed him. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Pittsburgh the only team to interview Tomlin? That was way outside the box by a franchise so well regarded and steady. I'd say that worked out well for them. One guy was sweating up and down about how he cost us 3 games last year. Not to mention Andy Reid. Some random QB coach no one ever heard of. The guy wasn't even a coordinator!I know, it's embarrassing. Clickbait is as insidious in sports as it is anywhere else. Now Doug says Blount is a 'huge part of our offense' lol... can never trust any reporting these days. From cut one day to a huge part of our offense the next.
I don't care what they say. He's looked like crap. I hope Smallwood can take it from himNow Doug says Blount is a 'huge part of our offense' lol... can never trust any reporting these days. From cut one day to a huge part of our offense the next.

Good quite right here.Lan Johnson wrote a little Essay in the Players Tribune published today. The Players Tribune is such an underrated Website too IMHO. Some very insightful great stories personally told by athletes. They've had players like Derek Jeter, Soccer stars like Zidane and Francesco Totti, One former NFL player admitted to using pot to cure pain as he didn't want to get addicted to pain killers the nFL gives, Seabrook the former Blackhawks goalie from Chicago wrote a farewell to the fans and put his life story on there. Some great reading material overall. Johnson talks about his suspension and how he felt. Dal fans in Philly, and his excitement for the season. There's some good quotes by him in there.
Lane Johnson Players Tribune: Suspension lite a fire under my ###
One of the best quotes in there. I loved how he found his mom tailgating with the fans and what he called his offensive line teammates. I believe it. The way he talks about Peters reminds me of a manager of mine. Big presence that everyone is still scared of even though he wouldn't hurt a fly and a ton of experience. Couldn't teach him anything he didn't already know. He trained me with tough love.Good quite right here.
"So I finally find them, slightly worse for wear, and as we start walking towards my car this random Cowboys fan starts mouthing off about how Philly sucks and the Eagles are trash — this and that. Now, fans are naturally entitled to their opinion, I respect that. But this guy clearly didn’t have a good sense of his surroundings. He continued to talk as we were walking away, and then out of nowhere, he gets clocked by someone wearing a McNabb jersey.
At least I think it was McNabb. Maybe Westbrook. But yeah, that happened.
I realized that if you want to be a Cowboys fan, that that’s something between you and your maker. But never be a Cowboys fan dumb enough to mouth off at an Eagles tailgate in Philly."
Overall I love The PT articles. Some of them are pretty long so its definitely something you can enjoy when you need to pass time. I read one maybe two or so weeks ago on Maria Sharapova and her suspension from WTA. There's also players who retired who write letters to their younger Self. The Derek Jeter one is a great read.Good quite right here.

Was reading it at the Eye doctor office today on my Phone. Made me want to go out and play some football and smack some people around. Then reality hit and realized I'm in a Doctors office and needed to calm down.Great read! I'm ####### fired up!!!!!!
Why are you talking to the Steelers about the Eagles? No lie...
I contacted Brandon Hunt (Director Pro Scouting) of the Steelers front office yesterday.
Discussed that there is no way that running back Corey Clement should be allowed to be stashed on a practice squad.
Clement has been the Eagles best RB in camp and in the games. No denying that Duce Staley (Eagles RB coach and former Steeler) favors him over Pumphrey.
I'm a Steeler fan. And Clement has legit talent that matches their need. I've had a couple of these discussions before -- including with other NFL teams (GB and SF).Why are you talking to the Steelers about the Eagles?
I can see tampering charges in BigSteelThrill's futureWhy are you talking to the Steelers about the Eagles?
Curious.....how do they redshirt a guy to IR without a legitimate injury occurring? Most likely, though, I think they redshirt Pumphrey this year on IR and keep Clement as the 4th back on the 53.
Teams do that all the time.Curious.....how do they redshirt a guy to IR without a legitimate injury occurring?
Yep. Alex McCalister was a development project who got a "calf" injury at final cut-downs, last year.Teams do that all the time.
Reality: all these guys have injuries, so nobody needs to make up an injury. The team just decides to shut the guy down for something kinda minor.
IIRC, it was either Baldinger or Mayock on one of the Philly radio shows who said if Clement was taken in the fourth and Pumphrey the FA.....that wouldn't have surprised him.Clement went undrafted (in a draft rich with RBs), had a couple of good runs against 2nd/3rd stringers in one preseason game, has a big question mark about his ability to catch the ball and Philly beat reports put his pass protection skills as needing a lot of help.
That's a guy teams are going to be clamoring to put on their 53-man roster?
If it comes down to Pumphrey or Clement having to be exposed to waivers, I think the Eagles take the chance with Clement clearing instead of exposing Pumphrey.
Most likely, though, I think they redshirt Pumphrey this year on IR and keep Clement as the 4th back on the 53.
