Storm is slowing, cone will get wider.  NHC now forecasting 0 movement on Sunday.  Landfall is going to suck, but wherever this thing sits Sunday will be in a really wet game of musical chairs.

Some of the models are now showing Issaic pulling Florence OTS post-landfall if she continues to slow.  That's probably the worst case scenario.  Would in theory put a double pass in some areas, and open up the remote possibility of it hitting somewhere else.

Arriving in Salvo NC on Saturday for a 2 week vacation.  Florence better stay the F away.  Not liking this change.  Come on, find that hole in the ridge and scoot north.
Well that was fun.  Departed Salvo at 1530 yesterday, got over the Bonner Bridge and onto 64 west by 1630, and to Maryland by midnight.  VDOT decided to close 2 of 3 lanes on 95 near Woodbridge for road work.  That took an hour to go 2 miles.  Otherwise, not a bad drive, but a long one.

Sounds like you were moving faster than normal pace there

I am assuming a loss of power for me of upwards of 96 hours.  I have removed outdoor objects, have gas and propane and 3 cases of water.  Will begin eating entire contents of 2 freezers tonite.  No generator, though I came close last year.  Was thinking of making a local hotel reservation, just to sleep in the A/C, but i'll just ride out the lack of power at home and I really don't want to leave house seemingly unattended.    I will have running water (assuming) for toilets and my stove is gas that I can start manually.  Car will give phones power.

Stay safe and enjoy the ice cream.

One of my cousins convinced her husband to leave Wilmington so they are heading to Charlotte tonight to stay with us. Guessing we won't get too much here but who knows.

When my brother lived in Puerto Rico about 15 years ago, he lived in a high rise apartment on the beach facing east.

Rode out a Cat 3 if I remember. Anyway, he filled his bathtub with water as well to have an extra source of a lot of fresh water for cooking, toilets, etc.

Charlotte gonna be waterfront property after the rest of us are submerged.  No way Hatteras Island survives this, so anyone with a house there is really under the gun.  Rodanthe, Avon, (Byron) Buxton, Duck..............good friend and old boss (who got me my current job) is on Bald Head Island, I just don't see this surviving sadly.  Lesser storms have completely overwhelmed 12.  The only thing I did smartly recently was acquire Flood Insurance as a worse case scenario after Matthew socked my roof a bit.  I hated paying the $400- annually, but at least I have that in place.

Doing the same thing as you but have a generator.  Just moved into the house in June so dont have it wired for it yet but have drop cords to get power to what we need.

I would pay for flood insurance right now, know any brokers, lol.  No way they would enforce a policy before this storm hits.

I would have loved to be there.  Front row view while being pretty safe.

It was more scary for us. No cell phones back then, so we were all calling him on landlines trying to get through. He would hold the phone up to the chattering storm shutters during the teeth of the storm.

Pretty wild. He later showed us some video he took of the water swaying in the bathtub as the building moved.

30 day waiting period to avoid tools like you.

Let me know if there is room at the inn god forbid.  I have no power, so bring generator and cords.  Leave crazy dog.

Today they announced the game is cancelled. They aren't sure if it will be rescheduled.
Yeah saw that Holgerson said he would play it Saturday at 3:30 or not play it at all.  Sounds like the entire series may just get cancelled.   UCF vs UNC is cancelled too.

Reed Timmer is now activated.  He managed to survive the keys.

This type of doosh encourages people to stay put.

For those in the path facing long days of bad weather and loss of power - don't forget the most supplies - brown liquor.

talking about a landfall at 1 am.....stuff like this is scary enough, having it land that late at night is 100x worse IMO.

Stay safe

The plan is to stay put.  I have 20 gallons of gas for the generator.  We have water, food and other supplies.  Sandbags are in place.  My mother in law lives with me, but we still have her house on the next street over.  After last season I bought a 50 gallon storage tub and dumped all of the sandbags into it.  I then bought my own sandbags.  So, instead of fighting the mob and filling bags at the fire station, I just filled my own bags with my own sand.

But, there are backup plans to evacuate.  My wife is ready to leave yesterday.  So, she went in search of a pet friendly hotel that the three of us, our 3 dogs, 2 cats and turtle could go to.  The closest she found was Gainesville, Florida.  She has supplies set out for a quick packing if she decides we need to leave.

Will do.   :lmao:

At new house a door at the top of the stairs can close off the upstairs from downstairs.  Crazy dog problem solved.  It would be your own little house up there.  Bonus room, 2 bedrooms and your own bathroom.

I am not in a flood zone.......
Me either.  Applies just to Fl I believe.

Beginning when a hurricane watch or warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for any part of Florida. There must be a named hurricane at the time the first watch or warning is issued, if not, the hurricane deductible starts as soon as the storm becomes a named hurricane. 2. Ending 72 hours after the last hurricane watch or warning is lifted by the National Hurricane Center for any part of Florida.

In any case I hope everything turns out ok for you and everyone affected.  I know how stressful this can be.  You guys be safe.

You can come watch the cats for us in Charlotte :D

I think ChemX was quoting his flood policy and you're quoting standard homeowners.

No Florida has a hurricane deductible that kicks in during a hurricane.  So any damage that occurs during the hurricane is subject to the higher deductible.  Mine is 5% of homes value.  Even that will not cover water damage from a flood caused by the hurricane though.  You must have flood insurance for that.  My neighbor found out about that last year.  Insurance can be tricky.

I’m flying into Charlotte tomorrow and have a slight layover on my way to Huntsville. Will all be clear in Charlotte tomorrow (Wednesday)?

There is a storm chaser named Jeff Pitrowski?  He live-streamed cat 4 Hurricane Harvey from the coastline.  He went through the eye.  Some awesome footage.  He parked in a car wash and it collapsed around him.  He made out ok, but I guarantee he will do something similar this time.

If you make it through the whole hour long video you will understand the mystique of the blue shed.  https://twitter.com/blueshedharvey?lang=en

was sitting in  harris teeter having a starbucks when they wheeled in a pallet of aquafina water.  i grabbed 3 cases, as there is no water within a 50 mile radius here.  funny, i may get 24 inches of rain, so there should be plenty of water.

Not just the coast. This is currently projected to slow down at the coast and dump tons of rain. Flooding will be massive.
We have been told worse case scenario, 30 inches of rain and tornadoes. I am 3hrs from Virginia Beach. 3hrs from Charlotte. We might have it bad, but coastal people might lose everything.

People who live over 100+ miles inland could lose everything. Hurricane Floyd was responsible for 51 deaths in NC, and the majority of those were from freshwater flooding in the Eastern part of NC.

Freshwater flooding is the leading cause of all hurricane deaths.  I mean unlike a tornado you have at least 8 hours to prepare for a flood type event.  It's crazy.
