***Official*** 2018 World Cup thread (and Drinking Guide) (4 Viewers)

Normally Concacaf does fairly ok at the big tournament.

But does anyone else get the feeling that they could get slaughtered this tournament?

*Panama struggles away from home against relatively weak teams.  They could go 0-3.

*I am unsure what the Mexican scandal will do to the team.  One player has already had to leave camp to deal with the fall out (I assume from his wife)

*Costa Rica is always tough to judge but they got waxed by Belgium today 4-1
wait what Mexican scandal?!?  (sorry been away from the thread)

Bobby Boswell for the win

Tonite at the gym, a man told me he thought Italy could win the 2018 World Cup. I told him they had the same chances as the USA. He told me I was crazy & knew nothing about world football. I said “you mean soccer?” He walked away. #WorldCup2018

Thinking of rolling some triple crown winnings into WC.

Any thoughts on the following:

Brazil +409

Germany +457

Argentina +930

Spain +540

France +639

I don’t like Spain as much as the rest of this list.

Germany is a great bet to get deep. They’re so predictable, but I don’t think they’re the best team but you’re getting a really likely semifinalist at +457.

I don’t think Argentina got a good draw at all, but you can make a case for them given they get a higher payout.

France is similar to Belgium that they have piles of awesome talent just thrown together.  When those teams work for a game, they will look better than anyone. They’ll have at least 1 4-0 beat down with goals from household names. But they just don’t have the reliable team systems you can trust game to game against the best in the KO round.

Brazil could face Belgium early, but ya, they’re the best team imo.

You've got all the chalk covered here.  Upsets happen in the group stage, but its extremely rare for any nation outside the top 5-6 to win the tournament.  One thing to keep in mind this year - only once has a non-european team won a world cup in Europe (Brazil won in Sweden in 1958). Is Russia in Europe? Does it matter?

Our CIO is doing an AMA at work.  Apparently they didn't get many questions submitted, so mgmt is forwarding emails encouraging us to submit questions.

I submitted "Who wins the World Cup and Golden Boot?"

Will report back @Jaysus

Brazil / Messi imo

I just dont see how the US 2026 bid wins the majority of votes tomorrow. Hope Im wrong  :bag:
the vote is going to be close according to reports.  Germany, England and Australia announced for the US Mexico bid today, while Holland announced for Morocco.

This news below is very bad news for the US Mexico bid if the votes are close

Four US territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, US virgin Islands and American Samoa will abstain in 2026 world cup vote. That will presumably benefit Morocco

it sounds like Asia is likely to decide the vote.

Looks like Morocco has stolen some Concacaf votes but that looks to be balanced by US Mex Can stealing some African votes.

Strangely, very few African countries have declared for Morocco publicly yet but I think it is assumed that almost all will vote that way.

I sometimes forget in this day and age how unprofessional some teams still are.

After Costa Rica got smoked by Belgium yesterday the CR head coach said "their number 10 did a lot of damage to us today but I don't know his name"

And this was not said in a joking manner.  He simply did not know who Eden Hazard was.

When you have Bryan Ruiz, no one else matters

Best us 6-0 on aggregate in the Hex.

I'll :blackdot: this ... being on the west coast will suck for watching games but I'll be following my Germans.   :banned:

Also - will I be able to watch games on my phone with Fox Sports app?  I do have DirecTV for login purposes.

It's almost like they are trying to punish the mainland...

Overall, has to be @Ramsay Hunt Experience.

But if you're asking since soccer started 5 years ago, then hands down it's @shader.
