*Official 2019 Philadelphia Eagles Thread* - Season's over; Go Away Now... (1 Viewer)

I can't think of a more deserving coach bias or not here. Can anyone think of a coach or team who's gone through what the Eagles and Pederson have this year, because I can't
Hell if you take the award for its literal meaning, I think a case could even be made for Wentz as MVP

I've always taken the award for it's Literal meaning in all sports. I argued till I was blue in my face to baseball fans when Jroll and Howard won their MVPs in Baseball why they were more deserving then others

I have critiqued Doug but DAMN this is good:

Doug Pederson's resume:

2017: First Super Bowl in franchise history with backup QB.

2018: Finish with 3 straight victories, win road playoff game with backup QB.

2019: Down 2 Pro Bowl OL, Pro Bowl TE, top three WRs, top two RBs, score 34 to clinch NFCE with 4th straight win.
Amazing job

You know? You’re totally right my man. I mean Lamar is a slam dunk but what Wentz has done is just really remarkable.
Nobody can fault anyone for voting Lamar.  I don’t think the Ravens team would be even half as good as they are without him.  Same goes with Wilson.  But Wentz has dealt with more adversity than both of them.

Even further, here is what was missing by the end of the game. RB1, RB2, TE1, WR1, WR2, WR3, WR4, RG1, RT1. Did I miss anyone?
The stat during the game (or maybe it was on Comcast? I’ve been drinking) but it said 24 players out for a total of 178 games.

Look, we are playing with house money at home. We can beat any team here and I think we do next week.

Amazing stat & the context is crazy:

Carson Wentz is the first QB to throw for 4,000 yards without a single WR hitting 500 yards.

Along the way this season, Wentz lost his WR1, WR2, WR3, TE1, RB1 & RB2.

Finished the season w a CFB QB as his WR1 & a 5'6" 6th rd RB as RB1.

Who thinks Doug should be coach of the year? I mean I feel he was owed it for ‘17.
if i had to guess across the board, i might put Tomlin up there with bringing the Steelers back to life after they were on QB3. possibly Vrabel too for getting the Titans in the playoffs. I may lean Tomlin because of the down periods in the Eagles' season, but it will be close

I don't think he's going to win it.  The last time a coach with a 9 (or under) team win got the award was 1990.  His name is Jimmy Johnson.

I think Harbaugh or Shanahan win it.  I'm guessing Harbaugh for how he's transformed Lamar Jackson into a God.

i think i would still prefer seattle.  they have been up and down and always seem to be in a muck-it-up game, increasing our chances to get a lucky bounce or 2.

shanny's offense is so good, would not want to face that.

So, am i the only one who has more confidence in the current WRs than the WRs we had through weeks 2-15? Alshon never looked 100%, let alone 70% all season. And Nelson is just a WR hard to trust every game. have to think there is bigger talent difference, but i think the 3 practice squad guys may be better then the majority of the season

a healthy DJax will be something though. the videos of him now have him practicing full speed

I don't think you're the only one.  Quite honestly I don't think there is a single Eagles fan that has more confidence in the old "regime"

reason i favor 49ers is because Eagles can stop the run. they bottle that up and make SF win by passing. they can cover Kittle, so leave it up to Garopolo to make the right reads.

Russel just makes me nervous, kind of guy who can win a game by himself

In a game for a bye, Garoppolo is outplaying Wilson.      I would be more worried about Garoppolo (given his surrounding cast compared to Wilson's).

I say give us either one....we are playing with house money at this point rolling into the playoffs with Carson and the practice squad cast. Come out loose and let it fly.

Shanahan has it locked up.

Shanny wins it.  Debate all you want about the literally meaning of 'most valuable' or what it SHOULD be given out for, but it almost always goes to the coach who exceeds expectations the most.

Just pick the playoff team that had the most wins over their preseason O/U win total and that's usually who gets it (with a preference to newer coaches)

Ravens:  + 5.5
Pats +0.5
Chiefs + 1.5
Texans: + 2.0
Titans: + 1.5
Bills:  + 2.5

Niners:  + 5.0
Saints:  + 3.0
Packers:  + 4.0
Vikings:  + 1.0
Eagles: -1.5
Seahawks: + 2.5

It's s a 2 man race between Harbaugh and Shanahan, but I think Shanny will get the nod as he's newer/trendier.

Yup I think you're probably right

And for those who still think McVay shouldn't have won it, his win total was 5.5 games over preseason O/U, while Doug only was 5.0 games over.  And even though Doug got the last laugh, playoffs don't matter as voting is done before playoffs.

Not only did Doug's team beat them in the regular season, but they also got the #1 seed missing their QB and several other major players due to injury. Doesn't matter now, and I'll take the SB over coach of the year, but Doug was robbed that year.

They had the #1 seed before the QB injury.  And that's not how the award works, it goes to the coach who beat expectations the most.  Rams were expected to win 5 games and won their division.  Doug was great but wasn't remotely "robbed".  The voting wasn't even CLOSE.

McVay 35
Zimmer 11
Marone 2
Bill 1
Doug 1

EDT:  I think people's Eagles fandom and the Super Bowl win skew people's reality on the COY award that year.  Both of which don't matter to the voters.
Again, I'd rather Doug and he got the last laugh, but regular season COY was well deserved by McVay that year.
