Even though the timing was still off, good to see them open things up. Also looks like they have 2 decent QBs in case they need both.

Play calling with McCaffrey left me thinking they dont trust him. So why not just play Patterson then.

Agree about DPJ. Need him for Wisconsin. Depth chart behind Black and Collins is paper thin.

Charbonnet is gonna be a fun one. Hope we see a little more of him this week then unleash him in Madison.

Never trust Harbaugh when it comes to injuries, but he eluded to DPJ having a chance to play this week. Which means he wont, but I'm now no longer cautiously optimistic about Wisconsin. I think he plays.

High Ankle Sprain in practice last week

As I said earlier, I haven't paid a ton of attention to the off season so this might be a dumb question, but was Hayes expected to be that good?  I kept watching him during the game and I was impressed.  :oldunsure:

He was expected to be good - next year. Many (most?) thought he was a year away yet. Looks like he’s ready now.

Nick Baumgardner wrote today that he can’t see Hayes going back to the bench once Runyan is back. May be Mayfield.

Future of the OL is bright.

And that seems to have come from nowhere. Could be that i wasn't paying attention  :bag:
A couple of things:

1) BIg recruiting classes on the OL;

2) Last year showed great improvement; and, most importantly

3) Ed Warriner. May be the best OL coach in the country.

All good points.  I guess I just got used to them not developing the talent they get and I think it's probably spot on that almost all this points directly to Warriner.  It's taken a bit to get going but it definitely looks like they are on the right track.  Hope they can keep the core together for some time.

Can anybody explain what happened today?  Add up all the "star talent" on both sides and then tell me our awesome coaches (at home as a 23 point favorite) didn't almost crap the bed?

That was the worst coached game I've seen in a long time.

And Shea played terribly.

If he is too injured to pull the ball on a zone read (he didn't once, I don't think) then he can't play. Simple as that. Put in McCaffery.

It was like Bo was calling plays..establish the ground game and pound it up the middle again and again even though it was not working.  Last drive in regulation was horrible. Run the same play up the gut on third and fourth downs and get stuffed both times. This offense really does not work unless the QB is a threat to run.

Almost like jimbo was trying to prove he could out run Army.  Pathetic.

Hi UM fans.  Penn State fan here.  I just want to go on record as having NOT laughed at you until we play head-to-head.  Thank you for your time.
Well Army did take Kyler Murray and #5 Oklahoma to OT last year too pretty much same score in OT. So I guess I can take a little solace in todays game.

Army plays at such a painfully slow pace it is difficult to get into any kind of rhythm.   3.5 yards, burn the whole play clock, 3.5 yards, burn the whole play clock, 3.5 yards and a first down burn the whole play clock, rinse, wash and repeat. But it works for them.

Stats from Army-OK OU was a 28.5-point favorite). Army ran 87 plays -- 78 rushing -- to Oklahoma's 40 and dominated the time of possession 44:41 to 15:19, nearly three times as much.

During the last drive of regulation I thought Bo Schembechler was calling the plays.
Last drive was a little bit excusable, because he was making sure that Army didn't have enough time left if they got the ball back to drive down for a score (which wound up working).

The rest of it was pretty bad. Wonder if we'll see McCaffrey starting against Wisconsin?

Well Army needs 7-8 minutes to score.  I get you want to eat clock but running the same play up the middle that has not worked all day was puzzling at best.

Oh, I agree, ESPECIALLY that 4th down play. But Army got into long field goal range with the time they had left. If they had another minute or so on the clock for their last drive, they have a decent shot at getting into range for a makeable field goal.

I said this yesterday but if Patterson can't run (and he wasn't particularly great throwing) because he's hurt, then they should play McCaffery.

Thanks!  Keeps me from actually watching that trainwreck.  During the MTSU game, I found it puzzling they weren't testing the edges more.  Seems like Army figured that out.  I also wondered how the offensive staff would be able to adjust in game when they see that they have to.  That was a problem with the last group and it appears to be a problem with this group.  They either didn't realize they had to adjust or didn't know how.  Neither is a good look

Or maybe it’s just that... oh never mind. :oldunsure:

Harbaugh’s stubbornness, even confronted with what should have been mounting evidence that this was not a day for bold statements about his team’s backbone, nearly cost Michigan the game and all the good vibes his fan base has been able to muster entering this season with an 0-4 record against Ohio State.

Stubborn wasn't the word I was going to use, but that's it, in a nutshell.

His complaints are about Harbaugh going for it on 4th and short twice. Yea - I'm totally ok with that. More teams should go for it.

That's not stubbornness - its good coaching.
Nope (at least not in my mind).  It's not so much about going for it on 4th down.  I agree, more teams should do it.  It's about admitting that you need to try something other than ramming down the other team's throat.  Stubborn, arrogant... whatever.

It’s like when Jim Caldwell would spend the first half trying to establish the run even though we had no run game to speak of

That I agree with. I think its a bigger question, though. Mainly what the hell is going on with the QB.

The last drive of regulation M has third and 4.   That was the play to get wide with a run/pass option.  Instead the ran it right up the gut for 2 yards, then ran the same dam play on 4th and 2 and did not make it...not even close the RB had no chance to even try to make a play.

Plus then need to just stick with Moody as K and quit rotating.

Couldn't agree more on Moody, but I'm biased.
