i cannot believe that Wills has only given up ONE sack in 900+ passing plays.

if he can do that for Baker.... mamma mia.

Did you watch Haskins at OSU? A little premature and snarky to put down a 1 year starter I'd say. I'd also recommend you go watch his last few games of the season, he played much better, a respectable 19/28, 261 yards and 2 TDs in his second to last game and was 12/15 for 133 yards and 2 TDs in his last game before getting knocked out. He also didn't throw any interceptions in those games. He clearly wasn't ready at the beginning of the year and what did you expect him to do without a LT, TE, a 64 year old RB and only 1 legit WR, all be it a rookie WR on offense??

I saw a couple of stinker games, and saw him have a solid outing against my Lions, which I’ve been watching happen for years so it’s really no surprise there. Every rookie qb that plays the lions feasts, and this is going back probably the last decade, so I don’t really put too much stock in that game. I own him in one league, and I’ll hold out hope that he develops, but I’m not sold on him. 

 
Moves I respect:
Miami staying put at 5 and still getting Tua
SF getting a mid-round pick for trading back 1 spot
DAL going BPA with Lamb even though they already had Cooper & Gallup

Most strategically interesting move:
Tampa trading up 1 spot to get their OT (I'm still not sure if I approve)

Biggest NFL bombshell:
GB going after the next QB successor

Biggest fantasy bombshell:
CEH 1.01

Subtler fantasy news:
Ekeler less likely to get serious competition with Chargers' next pick not till 112

Player I want to take a closer look at:
Jalen Reagor

Interesting patterns:
Near chalk for the first 15 picks, then things blow up
All the love for CBs & OTs
Teams playing to type with their choice of WR
The love for run-stuffing LBs in the late 1st

 
ESPN's Matt Bowen believes that the Chargers' selection of Oklahoma LB Kenneth Murray was the best pick of the first round.

The Chargers moved up to 23 to make the selection; parting with picks 37 and 71 to move up the necessary 14 spots to draft the former Sooner. As Bowen notes, Chargers DC Gus Bradley plays a lot of zone, and he believes that Murray (6'2/241) is an excellent fit in that type of defense. "Murray can march to inside verticals, close on the ball as a hook defender and play sideline-to-sideline to pursue as a run defender," Bowen writes. The Chargers also took Justin Herbert on Thursday, so both sides of the ball were addressed for Los Angeles on Thursday. It could be a draft they remember for a long time.

I’m trying to picture a worse first-round outcome for the Chargers, and I’m having trouble doing it. At least they didn’t trade up for Justin Herbert. 

What they should have done — if they were planning on going quarterback at all with their first pick — was trade up to jump the Miami Dolphins for Tua Tagovailoa. The fact that they didn’t leads me to believe that either they didn’t think the Dolphins were going to take Tua, or they preferred Herbert the entire time. That second option is tough to wrap your head around, even with the injury concerns for Tagovailoa.

Herbert just wasn’t all that good as a college quarterback, which is troubling when projecting to the NFL because the defenses only get better. He missed too many open throws, and he shrank in the games against quality opponents with merely average to poor games against teams with solid defenses. Ideal size and athleticism? Arm talent? Yeah, those are there, but when it comes to the more important things surrounding playing the quarterback position, there are just too many questions with Herbert to justify a top-10 selection. 

If you thought things were done after that, you were wrong. The Chargers then compounded their mistake by giving up an early third-round pick to trade back into the first round and take an off-ball linebacker. Not just any off-ball linebacker, though — the 62nd player on the PFF Big Board. 

Based on all reports, the NFL was much higher on Murray than we are, so it’s no big surprise that he came off the board in Round 1. As his bottom line in the PFF Draft Guidesays, though, “Murray’s success at the next level is going to rely heavily on usage. He’s not Mr. Do-it-all.” He’ll thrive in a role that allows him to attack downhill, but anything beyond that brings with it more questions. Murray’s not exactly going to be a playmaker in coverage, having notched just four pass breakups in three seasons at Oklahoma, and the overall value here for the Chargers isn’t there. The fact that they gave up a relatively valuable pick to come up and make the selection only makes it that much worse.

so hearing today that the fans on screen behind Godell were "pre-recorded"...

as my Portuguese friends would say ... I no believe.

I clearly seen a fan, dude top center, throw double birds at Godell.

Pretty sure it was during the announcement of the SEA pick.

I would think that would have been caught prior to NFL Network using that footage.

Seems like they didn't need to do it but I also don't blame them. Wirfs could have been as high as 2 or 3 on Tampa's board. Getting a tackle prospect of that quality at the pick they did is a big win.

The stats I was talking about didn't include the Lions game (those were against division rivals Eagles and Giants weeks 15 and 16). He actually continued to get better after that Lions game (but I agree with your point about them giving up a lot to QBs)

I wonder why the Vikings didn't make this deal with the Chargers instead. Based on what they said about moving down, they could have traded down from 22 (better than 23) and then still got their player at pick 25 

They ended up trading down with SF and they lost value on the deal, especially compared to the value that the Chargers gave for pick 23

Pick 37 (530 points) and pick 71 (235 points) = 765 points 

Pick 23 is right on the mark at 760 points. The Patriots gain 5 points value, big deal.

Pick 22 is worth 780 points, so if they would do the same deal with the Chargers, they give the Chargers 15 points value, big deal.

The Vikings traded pick 25 with the 49ers for pick 31 pick 117 and pick 176 but they lose 39 points of value which is equivalent of pick 134 in value.

Spielman got took on this deal. I guess they were not talking to the Chargers.

I doubt they thought the 49ers would pick him, probably just thought a 4th was worth not risking the 49ers making a deal with someone else who might draft him.

How is that possible?  

Did they point it out last night because I missed it, probably too tired.

 
ESPN just said Eagles were trying hard to move up to 16 for Lamb but Falcons wouldn't budge.

For fantasy purposes what a huge difference that made.

I am just talking about the value of picks that have been exchanged according to the trade value chart.

The only things that seem reasonable is that the Vikings did not know the Chargers wanted to move up or the Vikings were asking for more than the Patriots to do so and that trade possibility fell through.

I am not hearing this from anywhere. I am just looking at the value of the moves.

Obviously giving up 15 points of value is preferable to giving up 38 points of value

Yeah I think they were clearly afraid someone else was trying to move up. And the way OL went last night, I wouldn't doubt it.

I'm guessing that MIN really wanted Jefferson & didn't think he'd fall to 25.

I think Reagor is going to kill it for the Eagles, and I'm not just sayin' that cuz I invested in him in a Devy league.

I guess but also SF wouldn't take a 4th if another team was offering more than a 4th.

I picture lots of lying and bluster going on with trades, and they might not give details. "We have lots of interest in this pick, let me know if you can do better than your previous offer of a 7th round pick by 1 minute left on the clock or we are trading with someone else" type stuff. 

 
A lot of good talent available in the 2nd and 3rd round. Would love it if my Giants could nab Xavier McKinney to pair with Jabril Peppers, Antoine Winfield Jr. is fine also. LB is a need position too, both OLB and ILB.

AJ Green, Boyd, Ross, Higgins. Not bad for this year, even though I don't expect Green/Ross to stick around.
