*** Official 2022 PGA Tour Thread - Memorial Tournament, LIV list leaked- It's all Paulina's Fault **** (2 Viewers)

My objections have nothing to do with Saudi.

My objections are how this is going to ruin professional golf
It's already ruined.  They take so ####### long to take a shot and the camera just stays on them the entire time.  There are 70 other guys playing golf and I have to listen to Spieth have a conversation with his rake.  It's only slightly better than when Tiger was playing and we got 38 minutes per hour of him walking and practice swinging and reading putts and fixing divots and fixing his junk surrounding 7 minutes per hour of him actually playing golf and 8 minutes of everyone else playing golf.

Even DVR can't save it, it's just awful.  If it weren't for Faldo I wouldn't even watch any more.

We should probably create a new thread for the LIV but sorry, these team names reads like one of my fantasy leagues

Dustin Johnson – 4 Aces; Shaun Norris, Oliver Bekker, Kevin Yuan

Graeme McDowell – Niblicks; Bernd Wiesberger, Turk Petit, Oliver Fisher

Ian Poulter – Majesticks; Lee Westwood, Sam Horsfield, Laurie Canter

Kevin Na – Iron Heads; Sadom Kaewkanjana, Hideto Tanihara, Viraj Madappa

Louis Oosthuizen – Stinger; Henni Du Plessis, Charl Schwartzel, Branden Grace

Martin Kaymer – Cleeks; Pablo Larrazabal, JC Ritchie, Ian Snyman

Peter Uihlein – Crushers; Richard Bland, Phachara Khongwatmai, Travis Smyth

Phil Mickelson – Hy Flyers; Justin Harding, Ratchanon Chantananuwat, Chase Koepka

Sergio Garcia – Fire Balls; David Puig, James Piot, Jediah Morgan

Sihwan Kim – Smash; Scott Vincent, Jinichiro Kozuma, Itthipat Buranatanyarat

Talor Gooch – Torque; Hudson Swafford, Adrian Otaegui, Andy Ogletree

Wade Ormsby – Punch; Matt Jones, Ryosuke Kino####a, Blake Windred
All those bazillions but a marketing intern could have told them this was a laughably bad idea. FFS, Norman - thought you had a couple ounces of business sense.

TORQUE GC

Car enthusiasts know about torque. So do golf’s gearheads. It’s the club’s resistance to twisting in the shaft during the swing. Torque rarely impacts weekend duffers, who don’t live on the edges. But for golf’s best? Better get things dialed in.

the coverage is actually really good, i watch just about every thursday-friday round on espn plus and their coverage/production is terrible.

I think Gooch is the only one who surprised me as he's entering his prime (30 years old) and has been playing well this season.  He won at the RSM last fall and is exempt through 2023, so I'm not sure what he stands to gain long term.  The rest of the list is a bunch of guys on the downside of their careers looking to cash in (some, like DJ, a lot more than others).

And BDC for me…28-yes old with 10 wins and a major in the last 2 years.

Following the start of the inaugural LIV Golf event near London on Thursday, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan announced that all golfers playing in the breakaway series have been notified that they are suspended and otherwise no longer eligible to participate in PGA Tour tournaments.

"As you know, players listed below did not receive the necessary conflicting event and media rights releases -- or did not apply for releases at all -- and their participation in the Saudi Golf League/LIV Golf event is in violation of our Tournament Regulations," Monahan said in a memo.

"The same fate holds true for any other players who participate in future Saudi Golf League events in violation of our Regulations."

Players who have resigned their memberships will be removed from the FedEx Cup points list when the RBC Canadian Open scores are posted on Sunday.

The 17 golfers listed, including past major winners Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia, will not be permitted to play in PGA Tour tournaments as a non-member via a sponsor exemption or any other eligibility category, the memo reiterated.

Mickelson, who previously held a lifetime eligibility to the PGA Tour, said on Wednesday he didn't plan on quitting the Tour as he had earned the right to participate as he has "a lifetime membership which he has earned, and worked hard for."

Yesterday’s LIV Golf press conference

From yesterday in case anyone missed it.

Phil and the three other members of his team spent the first two minutes trading quips about how much fun the draft was, and they’re thrilled to be here.

The last 26 minutes is Phil slowly, painfully giving non-answers to uncomfortable questions.

You know what matters ... the Masters.  The US Open.  The Open Championship (British).  Everything else is meaningless.  PGA... blah.  TPC ...zzz.  Fed Ex ... zzz

Those three best majors will still have great fields and that's all that matters.

Will they be allowed to play?

This is all the general public watches so I agree.

For all the money that's being burnt on LIV Golf, you'd think they could have thrown a few more Riyals at their website.

I had a tab open from looking at the team logos yesterday so I thought I'd take a look to see how my Niblicks did today.  I looked all over the site and wasn't able to find a leaderboard, video highlights or a news item on how things went.

What website in 2022 doesn't have a search box?

Like DJ, I'd imagine the $ they are paying Bryson up front is massive.
No doubt...but while DJ seems to be easing in to semi-retirement, which fits his persona...BDC still has his best years ahead of him and doesn't seem committed to achieving great things on the course, which doesn't fit his persona...to me.

why not? if he can still play the majors then what’s the real down side?

This is a circus distracting from what it takes to be great.  And he won't compete at the level he needs to enough. It's a fine line between world class and great.  BDC will now have a huge disadvantage vs Thomas, Rahm, Scottie, Rory, Spieth, Matsuyama, Smith, Morikawa, Hovland, Xander, Cantley, etc.  Maybe he's unique with a random major but i doubt it...and he could have won 6.

Agreed.  After getting $100 million up front and then competing with a bunch of has beens for massive checks once every two months, including team payouts, I don't see any need for him to be hungry or put in the work to consistently compete at a major level.

As Tiger stated, legacy is important, and I fear that BDC and others have sold out their legacy.

the production on day  one was almost equal to the masters day one production. the pga tour live should make this the standard. players that have to show up and play the pro ams on tuesday and wednesday should make money even if they miss the cut on saturday. this is another big plus for the liv. caddies are all for this since those not in the upper echelon have to scramble for places to stay

I couldn't disagree more
