*** Official 2024-25 NHL, I mean NY Rangers Thread *** (1 Viewer)

Sitting in my seat for opening night for your Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers.

It’s opening night baby!!!

Yes that’s me the night we won the cup. I got to celebrate and party with our boys till 5AM.

Top 3 moment in my life.

Flex of all flexes. Jealous!

Well at least I'll have extra time on my hands this year during hockey season. Penguins look so old, slow, and they still trot out freaking Jarry. Probably the worst starter in the league. How they let him on the ice is a mystery.

yeah just watching a couple shifts of Hutson and he’s going to be electric at this level too.
He'll make the game watching more enjoyable for sure. Worth the price of admission.

Should be quarterback #1 pp, but has to wait for Matheson to screw up multiple times. (Which shouldn't take long)

Just got back from the Wild/Kraken game.

Wild fans are in for another display of mediocrity this year. Sigh.

I am officially asking to be Utah fan. I've enjoyed the state when I visited and thought the Yotes were a fun, drastically improved team by the end of year last year.

Shesterkin: $11m a year for 8 years and the highest ever proposed salary for a goaltender is insulting.

Proceeds to then give up a 6 spot to the Utah Utahs. :coffee:

And now with Spurgeon and Eriksson Ek out for (at least) the short term.

31% of the cap idle as they embark on a 7 game road trip.

Oilers starting off with 3 homes games.
Zero points, and 3 goals in those three games 🤢

Watched the Wild game last night, and they actually looked pretty good. But NHL doing them no favors with a 7 game roadie right out of the gates like that.

And can't stand NHL network. Couldn't watch the Flames/Oilers game last night. Can't watch the Rangers/Wings game tonight.

Oilers had 2 disallowed goals last night. One was clearly off-side, but the Corey Perry goal tender interference call was a joke.

Don't get me started on refs. Rangers got totally jobbed vs Utah. Admittedly, they played poorly, but had a disallowed goal on interference which was crap. And they had a penalty called on them which was the worst call I've seen in years. I know I watch the games with a clear bias, but commmmmmmmmon.

Igor with a nice bounce back game last night against a scrappy Wings team.

Colorado starting off as bad as the Oilers. 0-3 to start the season, 10 goals scored which is nice, but 20 goals allowed. OOOOOOF

Montreal actually starting off the year nicely. That Slafkovcky kid was pretty good end of last year and starting off this year well.
Weird scheduling so far as Devils played 5 games, but Canes, Bolts and Caps just 1 each.
Probably going to watch the Flyers/Oilers game tonight as I want to see what Michkovs all about. Plus, Oilers are going to start scoring one of these days.

Add these Anaheim Ducks uniforms to the list of worst ever in the NHL. What an eyesore.
(n)

They are so much better than the last jersey. I haven't heard anyone not like them til now. Really like how the numbers look
That orange color is double plus ungood to my eyes.
like the Flyers jerseys too?

These home too me a little bit to get used to. But I ;ove them now and Zegras jersey today. The Road whites with a little orange are awesome

Flyers are better with the white sleeves and black pants.

The Ducks' getup is like the Flames' - too much of one color.

My HS colors were orange/black/white so I like the general scheme.

Well, it would be insanity to think the Rangers were anything different than last year being that they brought back the same team with no changes really. On pretty much every night, their 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines are better than the other teams. But the other teams 1st line on about half the league is better. Rangers special teams and goaltending is elite.
5v5 they are league average.
They have what it takes to make another deep run, but I mean, they don't have that special first line that can win a series.

Some odds and ends, and obviously only a few games into the season, but Malkin and Panarin lead the league in points. Malkin is -1, which isn't too surprising considering the Pens are -1, but Panarin is just a +2 and the Rangers lead the league in gd. Obviously he's a master on the pp.
Makar and McKinnon are both top 8 in the league in scoring, yet both are -6's. 🤮
Eichel, Stone and Barbashav all top 6 in scoring and all +6's so they obviously dominate
top 3 5v5 cf are Oilers (2-3), Canes(1-1), Sabres(1-4-1) and Avs (0-4)? Only a few games in but still. Vegas 31st (3-2)? Weird

+/- IMO such a misleading stat, which is highlighted by your examples above.

Looks like I judged the Wild too quickly.

They’re only the second team in NHL history to go their first six games without facing a single deficit. They’ve allowed 1.83 goals per game, second-best in the NHL, buoyed by Filip Gustavsson’s seven goals against in five games (1.40 goals-against average and .952 save percentage). Their power play ranks fifth.

Rangers Panthers last night looked exactly like the playoffs last year. They still haven't solved them.

Panthers are rounding into form with a lot of our new faces on the 4th line, new PK guys and some of our new defensemen.

Barky is healthy again and back. It will be interesting to see how Tomas Nosek fits in now that he has returned.

Trying for the Finland sweep today vs The Stars!

Ovechkin has it rolling this season, scoring his 859th career goal last night to put him 35 away from tying Gretzky, and 36 from breaking the record. He's currently on pace for a 49 goal season, with 4G, 4A, and 8 pts in his last 3 games.

I'm hoping he does it this season.

Dostal rocking a .937. Literally the only reason we have a few wins right now. We are going to Gibson this poor guy and waste his career. Sick of the forever rebuild. Cronin is not the answer. Ugh.

It would be pretty awesome if we get to the final week and he needs 2 or 3 to tie/eclipse the record. The buzz would be pretty epic. I think that would be much better than if it's game 8 of next season.

Got another one last night. He now has 8 in 12 games this season and is on a 5-game streak. He started last season with only 8 goals in the first 43 games. I remember reading that a lot of his advance metrics (for example shot speed and location) were still good and that he was the victim of a lot of bad luck during that stretch. Seems like that might have been true as he now has 31 goals in his last 48 games going back to late January. That's 0.65 goals/game which is higher than his career average of 0.60. It really helps how much the team's overall offense has improved, scoring over 4 per game so far this season.

I don’t know if hockey is still dumb or not. Sabres alternating 3 wins in a row with 3 losses in a row, so it’s a bit of both.

Didn't think I would see a pens team as bad as the ones before Lemieux got there. But this is as bad as it gets. Would have had no problem with Crosby going somewhere else for another chance at a cup. For some bizarre reason they won't fire Sullivan who really has zero clue what he's doing anymore. Erik karlsson stealing money at this point in his career. One of the worst trades in team history.

What are the penguins waiting for? Is Sullivan never getting fired? He has to have something on someone. It's embarrassing at this point.
