*** Official 2024-25 NHL, I mean NY Rangers Thread *** (1 Viewer)

Man I'm so out of touch with the NHL this year between no fantasy league and the Penguins performance (or lack thereof).
:sadbanana:

Talk to me about this Jiricek trade the Wild made.
The Wild are thinking they can develop Jiricek (6'4" and called a little gangly still but growing at 20) into a top 4 RD not on Faber's line for when Spurgeon's contract is up (2026-27). Jiricek has a ton of talent offensively (just a bomb shot and great vision) but is pretty raw overall and lacks skating ability. He can get up and down the ice but will not wow you with speed. He and his agent basically wore out their welcome with Columbus as they claimed he was a top-4 D now. He's not. So the Wild get a super talented offensive D project that doesn't have it today.

The Wild are giving up Hunt (22), a 2025 1st, and some combination of a 2026+ 2nd, 3rd, and 4th from what I have read. Hunt was in limbo bouncing between Iowa and the 7th defensemen spot with a ceiling of a maybe second line D but probably 3rd line. The Wild say they probably wouldn't get a better talent in the 20s of the first round next year and I don't think they are wrong. The rest of the picks are just that, picks. Who knows but generally are coin flips at best. It is a fair amount of draft capital though.

They made this trade without dangling Rossi which to me is a win. Whether it pays off for the Wild will come down to player development, which the Wild do well at...mostly, and Jiricek getting real about his current game and the work he needs to put into it to get where he wants to be.

As it stands, I think the Wild made a solid trade with incredible potential. I don't think Columbus got all they wanted in a trade but they had had enough of the BS from the Jiricek camp, rightfully so.

The Leafs are looking really strong right now, pains me to say. They will, however, only be judged on their playoff success/failure. Right now, they look pretty unbeatable most nights. Getting little offensive production from the back-end but don't seem to ned it with that top-6. Solid goaltending too.

Richardson really needs to go. He has a young team with a handful of vets, but instead of letting his lines get any sort of consistency as they learn how each other plays, he's using the line blender every few games. The team has no offensive identity, and they are less capable of offensive zone time this year vs last year.

Trouba was really not the problem with the Rangers of late, but he was definitely not playing up to what he is getting paid. I'm probably one of the few Rangers fans that didn't really want to see him go, but I understand why they did it.
Lindgren really is not deserving of a roster spot. If you want to keep him as a #6 defender fine, but he's not good.
Been a lot of chatter about the Rangers moving Kreider as well. He probably has quite a bit of trade value, but 40 goal scorers don't grow on trees and at 6.5M/year that's a very reasonable contract.
Mika can be awesome at times, but sometimes his confidence is just crap.
With Chytil and Kreider in the lineup, Rangers were an elite offensive team. They just don't have center depth and another sniper at the ready.
And Kakko is probably not going to be a Ranger next year either, but this guy has legit star potential, he's a great two way player, very underrated.

Can you explain what happened with his family or something over the off-season that led to the bad blood?

he has a ltd no trade that was converted from a full no move this summer and his wife is doctor on residency in NY. his no move coincided with his wife’s residency……until covid came and pushed her back a year. so his no move expired and the nyr wanted to deal him this summer, but his wife has a year left in residency. it seems that he kind of asked not to be moved while she was still tied to ny and the nyr seemed to be in a bind, not wanting to uproot his family, especially since there is also a new born involved. but the nyr finally couldn’t deal with his suck level at 8mm per. it was a crap deal from the beginning and it only got worse. reading between the lines here, he is the captain and kind of held a grudge about the summer goings on and his level of commitment waned.

Tom Wilson takes a puck to the face, returns to the game looking like he was hiding a bocce ball in his cheek, and scores two goals in the third to lead the comeback against the Habs. Best part was the boys in the room calling him Quagmire while Carbery was addressing them after the game.

I think Team Canada is going to regret not naming him to the team for the 4 Nations tourney.

Thank you. That just seems like bad timing for all parties involved more than anything to me. I don’t like how much cap hit he takes but honestly I think we had the most or close to the most space out of the whole league. It seems like he wants longer term stability wherever he landed so I don’t think he will be a flip at deadline either.

Kings on a 5 game winning streak which included taking down the Jets and Wild (both pretty handily at 4-1). I am sure this only means the will lose to Chicago and Montreal soon enough.

Forget the Bedard rookie cards front last season, I'm going to load up on Macklin Celebrini rookie cards when they drop this year. This kid is electric.

Really watching him for the first time, he has 2 G and 1 A through 2 periods against the Blues tonight. Hit 10 G and 9 A on the season so far, on an incredibly crappy Sharks team. He's going to be fun to watch.

NYR have acquired defenseman Will Borgen, a 2025 Third-Round pick and a 2025 Sixth-Round pick in exchange for Kaapo Kakko.

Rangers are a disaster right now. I understand the Trouba move even though not a fan of it but it’s done. Absolutely do not understand the Kakko move. That guy is a tremendous two way player on a cheap contract. He had more points 5v5 then jack hughes. 23 years old wtf move him for nothing? Rangers have been **** the past 15 games and kakko was not the issue.
That blue line is terrible. Miller is hurt. Lindgren I terrible. The offense without panarin is pathetic. I love Mika and Kreider but they are not good enough and getting older. Last year was the year. This year is making me sad.

At least you've got your goalie locked up on the cheap. And you have to admit they're trying something new. Usually, it's "you can't fire the whole team" so they get rid of the coach. It's a fresh approach.

it’s all on the players. drury is doing what he needs to do and it seems in a business world, all these guys are now butt sore. them quitting is absolutely pathetic. i heard the rangers have a kakko tribute video ready to go when he returns….it runs
9 seconds.

Not that I totally disagree, but again, the Kakko trade makes no sense. You essentially give him away for nothing mid-season. You could have gotten the same 3rd round pick if he was offer sheeted in the off-season.
Kakko has been very good and is just 23 and getting better. There are 3 forwards on the Rangers who have a positive +/- this year
Chytil/Kakko/Cullye
As is the case, this has also been the Rangers best and most consistent line all season.
Kakko more points than Kreider this year and a) plays way less minutes per game and b) about 1/10th the power play time.

Yes, I'm sure the market for #20 and #93 is little to none, but I'm also relatively certain they could have and should have received a ton more than a bag of pucks for KK. And it's not like Kakko's salary dump is going to open up enough cap space to bring in a better player.
They do have a few guys in the pipeline, but Othmann hurt and Perrault is 19 years old, and about 165 lbs.

Rangers have gotten smaller, and worse over the course of the past two weeks - tough to get worse when you lost to the two worst teams in the NHL, scoring 1 against the pathetic Blackhawks and ZERO against the pathetic Preds....who are without 3 of their top 4 defenseman.

:vomit:

I hate to see Kakko go because he has been playing his best hockey but a lot of Ranger fans are really overvaluing him. He plays soft, especially for a guy his size, and that's something that can't be taught. Hopefully a change of scenery helps him. I don't know the guy they got in the trade but checking in on the Kraken reddit page and a lot of people say he's a fan and player favorite who plays his heart out even though he's had a down year this year. We'll see.
To me, the worst part is that they might have dumped him because he spoke out against the coach and pointed out, rightfully so, that some other players might be more deserving of being a healthy scratch.
This team is a mess and I'm not sure what they can do to get out of it. None of the vets seem to want to step up and lead. A completely dysfunctional family. Unless Kreider, Mika, Fox, Trochech and a few others all of a sudden got old, this is more of a locker room problem than a skill problem.
At least I don't have to center my nights around Ranger games for now. I'll start caring when they start caring.

We have a flight and hotel reservations for their game against Utah in January. Haven't bought game tickets yet and now we're debating even going. It's one thing if they were playing hard and losing but I can't see spending all this money to watch them go through the paces and fold at the end.

Went to rangers game last night. Thought for sure they’d lose. Stars scored within 2 minutes, goal was disallowed and then stars scored again quickly thereafter. But after the first 5 minutes the rangers were pretty damn good. Considering the stars received nearly a full period worth of pose plays obviously 31 was star of the game. But Rempe is a difference maker. He drew three penalties in his limited time on ice, hit everyone including a massive hit that rattled the boards right ahead of me. And yes I’m biased but the major elbowing penalty he was assessed was not even a penalty ffs. Guy is big, his elbow is naturally where my neck would be. He now has an in person meet with nhl and likely will be suspended at least 5 games. Pretty evident there is an agenda against him. Yes he’s made a number of bad hits in the past but he is unfairly penalized simply because he is large.
Team is still ****. They have 2 nhl caliber dmen right now but if 10 and 31 are on well they have a punchers chance night in and night out.

Doesn't matter how big Rempe is. He needs to be in control of his body and not hit guys in the head. There's no agenda against him. He's just a moron who wants to hurt people , and apparently isn't a fast learner.

Sucks donkey dicks.

Waste of space on the ice.

8 games

After four games back from a leg fracture, Ovechkin has added three more goals. 23 to tie and 24 to pass Gretzky with 44 games remaining.

In the last three weeks...
beat Winnepeg, Edmonton, New Jersey, Winneprg again and Tampa Bay tonight. All the lines a re jelling and playing so much better recently.

Shots against have gone down from 33/game to 27/game in that time.

MIght be Trouba coming in. He's played well. Might be Fowler leaving. He's not that good on D anymore.

LaCombe now has 8 goals. He's playing so well
