*** Official 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season Thread *** Post Helene and Milton (2 Viewers)

"5PM track update is in! The NHC sees the wobble, track has been adjusted NORTH. Now have it coming across NW Manatee and Southern Hillsborough. Winds down to 120 mph. Surge threat for the Bay has increased. Strong winds will be north of the track across Pinellas, Hillsborough and Pasco Counties."

The line here is crazy…Tampa Bay looks like it’ll get hit for the 1st time in 100 years. But…South Bay will get the big surge possibly, and North Bay could be ‘only’ 6-feet. That’s the same for the North side as Helene but wouldn’t do a ton more damage then already done.

Son in St Pete near Largo, still has power right now
We face timed for about an hour, honestly it didn't look that bad to me but that said I wouldn't trade places with him
Happy it might work out but I emphasize that Tampa Bay and especially Orlando are not out of the woods by any stretch
Some feederbands coming in as they have around here in the Treasure Coast, pretty dang nasty, the palm trees are swaying in ways you don't often see

Jim Cantore in Charlotte Harbor, FL right now

Huge storm surge and he's showing it all, lots of storm cameras and will be working his way up floors as the water continues to flow in

He is in a perfect spot depending on your POV
That is one helluva man

Martin County "Stuart -Hobe Sound" Update: House on FIRE 🔥
Culprit? Generator too close to the house and lit it up, tree caught on fire and that made things difficult

More updates as they come in, this was connected to the tornados in the area

-Note to everyone, this is hundreds of miles away from where the storm is coming across the shore...OK at least 100-150 miles away and it hasn't made landfall yet
Think about it

He's a showman and it takes one to know one
He interviewed a man on a little boat across from the Tampa General Hospital the other day and it was amazing and I wish I had the clip to share
Sometimes he gets egg on his face but a lot of times he shows things many of us would not want to experience but happy to watch him dive right in

I’m a couple of pages behind, but came in here to say the tornadoes worry me.
I have family in Jax, Myakka City near Sarasota, Vero Beach and Palm Bay.

The one thing that people who have never been in a hurricane understands is just how long you are in one. We are already getting heavy rains and tornadoes and the storm is still 150 miles off the west coast and I am right on the east coast.
The worst thing I ever have to deal with is a blizzard. I sit in my house, drink, and play video games for a day or so. It's kind of great. Very pretty to look at, too, at least until you drag the snow-thrower out.

I would not want to have to deal with hurricanes at all. These sound like awful experiences. GL to all our Florida people.

Yes. Just saw he was finally brought to a shelter.

-Sort of, the one point the guy on the boat made is that he would keep rising with the storm surge, he already experienced it with Helene and other storms
He's kinda right but he acknowledged that he would likely not end up where he was docked after the storm passed, he could end up tens of miles away
He was on what amounted to a sailboat

Yep, that was Lieutenant Dan.

Wild, the wall is coming on shore except there's no wall, at least not much moisture so far

ERC seemed like it didn't quite make it on the last reload and the storm seems like it might have lost a little punch
Storm surge still a major problem

My Son and Daughter in Law just watched the transformers in their neighborhood blow and another one blowing up right now

He is now without power
-St Pete

420k without power in Florida

St. Pete friend who is in Tallahassee now, said last from his house cams before they lost power was pool flooding. He's north side of the Bay I think. Helene, the water made it to his drive but not into the house. Hoping the path keeps the surge down to Helene levels for him.

New update from Denis Phillips has it going pretty East into south Sarasota. Best Case Scenario at this point.
This appears to be the right landing spot. Hope the positive surge forecasts follow. Obviously as MOP noted the rain and wind north of the eye is going to do some damage…which I’m in the midst of…but nowhere near what it could have been overall.

Apparently he didn’t go to the shelter…

That's him, I bet he does just fine some how some way
His viewpoint of being able to float in the boat no matter how high the water gets, at the time it made perfect sense
I'm still not sure I would want to experience what he was planing on going thru

Brandon and Plant City right now getting the brunt of the Northern wall, major flash flooding
I'm in Bradon and lost power about 10 min ago...these sustained winds are CRAZY!!!
I'm sorry to hear that bud, I'm just looking at the SkyTower radar and it looks terrible from where I'm sitting
Not to upset you but it's not getting better for a little while, pop a beer and hunker down
