Finally! Power back, and only an hour shy of 6 full days.

My patience and sanity were tested for a minute there
Good to hear. It was 7 days after Ivan for us. A tiny generator running the fridge and 2 fans. I was tired of grilling for us and everyone in the neighborhood it seemed like for 6 days straight.

Makes you wonder how AC has only been around for 100+ years....how did those people live?

They didn't live in Florida. And it wasn't so hot.

Got it and got it. Your point is?

No need to be a douche. Power's out. It's hot in other places than florida...

Not being a douche. Florida wasnt a bunch of retirees having orgies and playing pickleball 100 years ago.

AC created population explosions in the southern US. Nobody dealt with the heat until it existed. Unless they absolutely had to.

What's gross is all the folks that continually fall for it even though it's fairly easy to see when something that's negative starts trending hard, fair to assume that someone is fanning the flames. Was FEMA Johnny on the spot in NC? Probably could have done better but no one has ever had to respond to what happened in the mountains. After the first week, they have been crushing it and doing what FEMA does. I think a lot of folks have this concept of FEMA riding in on a white horse and spreading money, food, water and happiness like munchkins in Oz. That isn't what they do.

I get that most of those people have never had to deal with this sort of thing. I get that they might not know FEMA's role. But FEMA had 250 people there, on the ground a day and a half before the storm hit and govt agencies were flying helicopter missions from the Asheville airport on Friday as soon as the wind had subsided enough. Compare that to Milton in FL and it's a night/day difference. We don't see the mis/disinformation around Milton though because people in Florida understand what FEMA does and haven't fanned the flames. We saw the mis/disinformation creeping into this very thread, but fortunately it stopped.

Not a lot of concern at this point for the still reeling west coast of FL... 🤞
My pops has a bunch of areas around him (central Florida) STILL under water from Milton. The aid workers can't set up in the same places they normally do, so now they are out in Lowes parking lots etc. I think electricity is back on for almost everyone, but there are still roads completely destroyed and water standing in areas that have closed other roads and keeping people out of their houses to start the rebuild process. They will likely be out of their houses for some time.

Lots of places hit by Milton got another foot of rain this past week.

Meanwhile, we're in a drought.

So born in Florida in 1956. I didn't live in a place with AC until 1980. Didn't really bother me then. But I can absolutely say I couldn't live without AC now.

I lost power for 14 days during Ivan I just about lost my ever loving mind.

Looks like Sara is going to form…south FL / Bahamas bound next week possibly?
Probably makes it to named storm but not a hurricane. Nevertheless, Honduras possibly going to get a deluge of rain. Models show it parking there for a while.

If it ends up going through Central Florida, the rain is going to be enough to set them back significantly. My dad just reported this past week that the entrance to his neighborhood was finally passable from Milton. Water isn't gone, but shallow enough for most vehicles to pass through now.

Doesn't seem likely.

Hope not. At least the people in WNC can start rebuilding. Many in FL are still waiting for water to recede before they can even begin to think about rebuilding. Pretty tough situation.

I didn't have on my bingo card that the last hurricane force winds of the year would be hitting the West Coast
