Never had a hole in one. And I've played A LOT of golf.Watched a guy make an ace today. I made an eagle myself. Game is fun when it’s not infuriating.
I have 2 par 4 eagles from 140-150 out but no HIO. Never witnessed one. I have witnessed a hole-in-three. That guy bought drinks anyway.Never had a hole in one. And I've played A LOT of golf.Watched a guy make an ace today. I made an eagle myself. Game is fun when it’s not infuriating.
Hole in three meaning like OB, hit a second one three off the tee and made it?I have 2 par 4 eagles from 140-150 out but no HIO. Never witnessed one. I have witnessed a hole-in-three. Playing with my boss over 30 years ago. He hit his first shot on a par 3 in the water, re-teed and drained the next.Hole in three meaning like OB, hit a second one three off the tee and made it?I have 2 par 4 eagles from 140-150 out but no HIO. I got one when I just started playing. Have hit a bunch to an inch or two since then but that’s it.Never had a hole in one. And I've played A LOT of golf.Watched a guy make an ace today. I made an eagle myself. Game is fun when it’s not infuriating.
I've probably hit six sticks in the bottom foot and nothing.I got one when I just started playing. Have hit a bunch to an inch or two since then but that’s it.Never had a hole in one. It’s all luck once the ball gets around the hole.
It’s not luck if you’re aiming at the flagBetween me, my dad and my brother we play somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 rounds a year.
None of us have one. My grandpa had like 5 and he was basically a hack
It's all luck. Guy with the ugliest swing at my club has 7 of them
Greatest finish at least. It's hard to focus in when you know your round is trash and probably can't be saved regardless. That said, I suppose such a situation allows you to swing more stress-free.arghhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sums up today, but I'll be back at it on Friday.
So frustrating. At age 59 it's like some day's I've forgotten how to play, and those days are more common.
Had to finish PPBBP just to shoot 83. Had 4 doubles and that is totally unlike me. Played on course never played before. Looked at google maps and said "oh I've got this". No I didn't.
Youngest son beat me for 4th straight round.
Is that a 58 degree?I think my equipment tweaking is now complete. I got tired of chunking my Titleist SM8 56 degree so I traded it in for a Cleveland CBX2 game improvement wedge. It is SO much easier to hit it's ridiculous.

You didn't ask, but: when I felt super crappy earlier this year I played a round with just a seven iron, a 54, and a putter. It was fun. Obviously doesn't go into handicap so stress free too.Just so damn frustrating. Played a round yesterday and other than 3 bad holes(only of which was really the result of a bad drive) .....I felt like I found something. Par'd the last 4 holes and for what felt like the first time all year....I felt like I was able to hit a driver.
Come out today....horrendous range session. Smother hooks just like all year. Somehow miraculously hit a good one into the first fairway and then the wheels just totally came off. Smother on 2, smother on 3, ....actually make a birdie on the par 3 4th, 2 horrible smothers OB on 5....off the planet right on 6 (just trying to do anything possible NOT to smother it left).....walked off.
I honestly think I might have a brain tumor or something. I KNOW what I'm doing wrong and can feel my self doing it but my body just wont swing at the right speed. Its either "OMG, drift forward and send your arms as fast as possible" or totally panic and activate nothing and just send it 7 miles right.
Pretty confident that my upcoming family trip to Hilton Head will be the end of golf for me. And honestly, if it wasn't for how much it would upset my dad, I probably just wouldn't go. Even if i have a stretch where I play well, I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop. And once I smother 1 drive, all I can think is "here we go again" and I'm finished. I'm honestly past the point of being angry. Its just dejection.
Sums up my game yesterday completely. Just a brutal day.it's like some day's I've forgotten how to play, and those days are more common.
Two weeks ago in league I had 23 putts for 9 holes. 17 of them on the first 5 holes.32 putts.Played a dog track next to SFO today, the fairways were terrible but the greens were decent. 5 pars and 14 bogeys, not upset since it was my first time playing the course and not knowing the greens. I did put one in the water on a par 3 but almost holed out my drop and had a tap in bogey.
My buddy shot a 90 today with 47 putts

So, you're clubbing up by... removing all woods? Bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off!Playing here tomorrow. Shot a 112 last time with that silly 11
Taking only 4i-pw, sw, gw, p. Gave the 3w I was going to buy back to my buddy and I'm taking my used-to-be-favorite 5w out. I top it 90% of the time now, so I'll just focus on irons until i can get the wood set I want.
lol fair, but at least I can hit the irons straight. Only had an 5w and3w I was borrowing, both had different grips too. Also, with the guys I’m playing with, my 4i will be about 20 yards behind them. I’ll fit right inSo, you're clubbing up by... removing all woods? Bold strategy, Cotton. Don’t feel dirty - that’s match play!Didn't get to play this week due to work stuff, but last week somehow won the playoff final to win my league flight. Played absolutely horrid to start (probably would have carded a 10 on the first hole, but I conceded and picked up while on the green). Was down 3 with 4 to go and then suddenly started striking the ball well. Won 1Up by going +2 over those 4 holes. Felt dirty given how badly I played, but I'll take what I can get.
Championship is on Saturday, 4 of us, 18 hole net. Don't really like my odds if I'm being honest, but I have a puncher's chance. Somehow my distance is up across all clubs the last few weeks, but I'm still missing right a lot. Which is odd for me, because my misses are usually left.

I wonder if that's ever been done. You putted one OB?

Kind of a microcosm of my year over the weekend. Conditions were extremely wet, which in theory should have been to my benefit as I hit the ball further than the other three, but just had too many blow up holes. I had the most pars of the foursome, but a bunch of doubles and triples sank my round. It was ironic that my slim path to winning was closed by a terrible three putt on 16 after I had hit a great tee shot. I finally struck the ball pure and then my putting which had been solid all round failed me. Still feel like I'm just a couple tweaks away from playing much more solid, but can't seem to figure the last pieces out. Going to make an appointment to get a custom fitted set next month.Championship is on Saturday, 4 of us, 18 hole net. Don't really like my odds if I'm being honest, but I have a puncher's chance. Towels aplenty, multiple gloves (rotate every shot or every other hole), and if it's financially feasible invest in good rain gear and top quality, waterproof shoes (especially if you're walking - you want your feet dry to prevent blisters). We play Streamsong Thursday (chain round to warmup), Friday (4-ball morning, MAS afternoon), Saturday (best ball morning, singles afternoon).
Looks like sure to rain.
Any advice for rainy rounds?
Rain gear like anything specific to golf or you mean like a good rain jacket (which I have)?Towels aplenty, multiple gloves (rotate every shot or every other hole), and if it's financially feasible invest in good rain gear and top quality, waterproof shoes (especially if you're walking - you want your feet dry to prevent blisters). We play Streamsong Thursday (chain round to warmup), Friday (4-ball morning, MAS afternoon), Saturday (best ball morning, singles afternoon).

Like golf specific. They aren't cheap but brands like Footjoy and Peter Millar make traditionally nice rain gear. Plenty of options! Fire cliff, classic club, pga west stadium etclooks like a December trip out to play in palm springs, my so cal group is having our club championship out at indian wells (celebrity) course, it's a member guest so my buddy and I are going to look to play thursday-sunday out there and make it a boys trip. I'm going to have to start training my liver in november. I'll also need to find a few more courses to play for wednesday afternoon and thursday/friday.

ETA: a good rain jacket (like a snowboard level rain jacket?) should suffice but ultimately you would want rain pants, rain gloves, etc.
Alright. I obtained rain gloves...looks like both hands? Got an appointment excellent rain jacket. Added some FJ waterproof shoes that I will now have to urgently break in over the next two days lol.Definitely rain glovesLike golf specific. Skipped the pants. I'm wearing shorts. If I need to wear pants someone will have to tell me way in advance. I hate pants. Shorts all day.
They had this towel that's got an attached liner on the outside to stay dry for clubs...useful or overkill?
it has to be freezing cold for me to wear pants even in the rain, if it's somewhat warm/humid then I'm wearing shorts all day and changing socks if I have to.Also, part of the point of the pants is that they fall over the sock so they help keep your feet dryer.
do you play right handed? If so have you thought about playing left handed instead..... jk gb, I'm jealous of all the rounds you are playing as I haven't been able to play 3 times a week lately.Have my third lesson today. Got in 57 holes and one range session with the new grip. Let's see how today goes.
