Rizzo fractured two fingers…..this guy can’t catch a break this season…..well actually he has had a couple of bad breaks.

Jesus man…..he is actually an important leader on that diamond for the Yankees. Practically a pitching coach on the field for us.

The Dolphins and now this? :o :scream: :x

Hoo boy. That would be like being a Jets/Red Sox fan. Who wants to know the psychology or location of either of those scenarios?

Todem, that would be me, rooting for the Jets and Red Sox. Of course, not everybody is going to know my teams, but I thought maybe it would be apparent by the attempt to plant my tongue firmly in cheek via the written word.

As a long suffering fan of the Texas Rangers, last year went a long long long way in repairing decades of damage. I don't think I cared once about their season this year because I was still sports' drunk from the '23 WS. Just so happy!

And now, I have a team to cheer for in the Padres.

Why the Padres? (Pardon me if you've said this earlier. I suppose I could do a search. . . and I did! Not finding any professed love for the Padres in your not-so-distant past.)

Sorry, should have clarified this one - financial reasons. I tossed a C-Note on them to win the WS this year. Got 13-1 odds. I think they are red hot and rolling. Time for another storied franchise to shed the back-monkey.

We welcome all future fans on the bus. No better team to root for imo. Though I’m admittedly 45 yrs biased.

wow - Braves were cruising and now the Mets came storming back with 6 runs in the top of the 8th. It would be really fascinating to see how the lines for game 2 are shifting during this game. Surely whoever wins this game will rest everyone for the second game?

100% rest any regular catcher, starting pitcher, closer and setup man (presumably they'll pitch the 8th and 9th anyway), and rest any starting field position players who want the rest.

Then, try to win the game with the bench players.

RIP Arizona
Eh, Sale will be tough to face, but beware the team riding high with nothing to play for. Lotta free swinging.

Braves win in a blowout or the Mets hang in there and have fun winning a close one at the end.

ETA: The above notwithstanding it is really hard to win both games of a double header at any level.

ths is kind of a dream scenario for the Brewers, no? Sale will pitch game 2 if the Mets hold on here. Plus they both already had to use their best bullpen arms.

I was thinking it would be better for the Brewers if Atlanta won the first game so the Mets would still have to win the late game.

The Giants fired Farhan Zaidi today, who I firmly believe was an underground operative working for the Dodgers, which is basically like winning a world series. Too bad my fellow Farhan hater FatMax isn't here to give a virtual high five to.

Buster Posey seems like a bold move

Maybe if they just sucked it up and made their city connect uniforms their official colors. The people want it.

As a Giants fan I'm not sure I love the idea of one of the franchise's most beloved players being the GM

Well technically MLB and HoF are separate entities. He could have been put in while still banned by MLB
When Pete agreed to be banned, the HOF did not have a rule forbidding induction of anyone banned by MLB. But shortly thereafter, they did make that rule.
I read about this yesterday. At the time all of this went down, the commissioners office basically told the Baseball Writers of America that they would get to make the decision whether Pete Rose would be in the Hall of Fame. But then, as you said, the HOF changed their rule to include anyone banned by baseball. Supposedly the baseball writers were pissed about that.

And here we are. One of the most complicated baseball players the world has ever seen. You can both love him and despise him at the same time.

The Royals are in, but they won't be long for this postseason. Their offense for the last month has been ice cold, which coincides with Pasquantino breaking his thumb. There is a strong possibility he will be back today, but not sure how much impact he can make.

But, the Royals do have starting pitching and anything is possible once postseason hits. All the pressure is on the O's and the Royals are playing with house money. But the Royals are sneaky good on defense and pitching. If they can score runs watch out.

O's fan here.

Baltimore hasn't exactly lit it up the 2nd half (I think they're under .500) and their pitching staff has been decimated. They also went into a prolonged hitting slump. The bullpen is still a mess.

On the bright side, they got a bunch of their injured bats back and the lineup - excluding Mateo - is finally back to full strength. They finished 5-2 against the Yankees/Twins and were scoring again. As for the pitching, short series so they won't be trotting out starters that have no business starting a MLB game.

I think the Orioles win this series, but it wouldn't shock me at all if KC did (I remember 2015).

The weather is nasty in this part of the world: rainy, cool, a little breezy.

Best of luck, amigo. Let's hope for some fun baseball.

Now that the Twins are out, the 2 teams I am kind of rooting for are facing off in the first round (Royals, Orioles). I can't bring myself to root for Guardians. I have a lot of respect for Perez because of his willingness to stick with one team through the lean years, even though he has been a pain in Minnesota's side for a lot of years, Witt is fun to watch even though he will also be a pain, and the Orioles have a young core that are interesting.

Good luck @ChiefD and hopefully next year the Royals are looking up to the Twins.
